Hey guys, I have been through this thread and deleted quite a few insulting comments. These sorts of threads can, unfortunately, bring about that sometimes. But please, keep the discussion civil. Thank you.
Any type of business? I can understand to an extent about maybe not wanting a gay couple in a hotel or something like that because some hoteliers wont let unmarried couples stay in double rooms but refusing sevice in a say burger bar or bakery (which actually happened recently in the US) is digusting and so damn high and fucking mighty it pisses me off. Im sure with enough snooping you can find enough sin in anyones past to ccondemn them for something. Pious bastards, we should stone them.
You realize that this probably won't stand. Unless the establishment does all its business (client and vendor) inside its own state, it's subject to the Commerce Clause which is under federal law.
#FREE MARKET MOTHERFUCKERS
But seriously, it's the choice of the damned business owners who they provide services to and not to. I don't … morecare if they refuse people because they are clowns, lawyers, doctors, teachers, gays, whites, blacks, straights, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Catholic Priests, tall people, short people, men, women, poor people, rich people, people with mohawks, people with bowl cuts, people who enjoy dancing to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" while ordering their Subway sandwich, people under the age of 18, people over the age of 30, people with white hair, people in chicken costumes, or any other ridiculous reason they have. It is their business, and as a privately owned, funded, and organized company, it is well within their legal and economic rights to fuck themselves over and drive people away from their business. I know people don't like it because it lets people be discriminatory in their own private land und… [view original content]
Nobody gives a damn, they're paying customers. Leave them alone and take their damn money. A person's religion is no excuse to be a dick.
It pretty much never happens here, thankfully, but you could certainly bet any business that I hear is denying people service just because they're gay, lesbian, trans, whatever, isn't going to get a single visit from me anymore. That's two customers they would have lost right there.
Yeah they are, but that doesn't excuse the actions where we live
Well its a legal battle, did you really think people would be fine with Gay Marriage just thrusted upon them? Didn't you think there would be some legal blowback, this is what this is. It will always be a part of America.
Instead actually try to change homophobia here as well.
Are you kidding me? Do we even live in the same reality? If you aren't accepting people will turn on you like they did to Cosmo Kramer. I find it hilarious, sort of a reverse discrimination, self served hypocrisy.
people are dying over there right now for being Gay.
Yeah they are, but that doesn't excuse the actions where we live. We shouldnt j… moreust use the excuse "Oh well, gay people dont have it that bad here because they're being killed in the Middle East". Instead actually try to change homophobia here as well.
They CAN make it illegal in the US to fire someone for being gay.
Do you know how many incompetent people will say, I'm gay just to keep their jobs? I had to deal with this experience professionally, and its bullshit.
It's not fair because you experiencing things because you chose to is not the sdame thing as something happening to someone for who they are… more.
It's a very weird comment to say 'people are dying over there for being gay'. Do you think all equality movements are invalid if they aren't at their most extreme?
The american government cant easily stop Saudi Arabie from killing gay people. They CAN make it illegal in the US to fire someone for being gay. And i don't see why they shuldn't do so just because gay people are dying somewhere else.
It's like a woman fighting for the right to drive a car in one country, and being told 'hey, if you were in a south african tribe right now you could be killed for speaking out of turn, get some perspective'.
But if they're incompetent, they wouldn't be fired for being gay, but for being incompetent. Just because someone says they're gay doesn't make them immune to being fired if they do a shitty job.

To pretty much any decent human being's relief, that "law" is in no way being considered. It was a proposed ballet by a Californian attorney and even if it did gain all the signatures and funding money, it would never get the votes from Californian citizens. Keep in mind that 6.2% of San Francisco alone identify as LGBT.
I can smell a hate crime from a mile away. I'm all down for those wanting to express and uphold their thoughts, views and beliefs in this wo… morerld. I'm a Catholic man and since the moment I was conceived, I was taught homosexuality was a sin and God would punish those that slept with the same sex. I believed that; I'm ashamed to say for years, these were my thoughts but because it was all I ever knew.
Seeing things like this angers me now because my brother and one of my dearest friends is gay and both are in wonderful relationships. It pains me to see them being discriminated against because of who they are. Religion is what makes people go so blind with hate and forget the REAL reason behind it. Being a 'Christian' is supposed to love your fellow man; lessons about God loving ALL his children and in the end, only he will judge you and make that final decision. Everyone wants to wave scriptures and quotes in my face. That's fine but is that … [view original content]

You must not know anything about mental health, because emotional distress can certainly cause health-related harm to an individual. It's foolish to think otherwise, when almost any educated doctor agrees that emotional distress can have a direct correlation to physical well being in many different ways.
There's all the difference in the world of physical distress and emotional distress. Physical distress, caused by actions such as murder, as… moresault, and rape, have physical and health-oriented ramifications regarding that person's continued existence. Emotional distress does not directly cause physical, health-related harm to an individual. People may not like being turned away (and with good reason), but acting like a child and trying to get daddy (the government) to force them to give you your cake/sandwich/whatever it is you are want is absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, it sucks that people will be turned away, but if they have a problem with it, get people to boycott the business with them.
Economic punishment from the public > corporal punishment from the goverment
So, if I had a business, I have the right to refuse service to you because I see fit? So, instead of having more income, I refuse service to people based on things they can't choose ( sexual orientation, gender, race, etc.)? In my opinion, it is a bad idea for the business.
Of course it's a bad idea. You lose customers and prove you are a bigot, which might make you lose even more afterwards. However, since it is your business, it should also be your choice, even if it hurts you or just plain makes you look like a fool.
Sorry, but that's sickly homophobic. Can I refuse straight people service because I believe in something? Of course not! Who has a business based on ideas such as homophobia, sexism, racism (etc.) should not have a business.
I guess you agree with the idea of that, if the owner of the business was sexist/racist, she/he would ban any other person from a different sex/race. But, hey, the important thing is respect and blind obedience, right? (Sarcasm)
You should be able to, yeah. In my opinion, you should be able to refuse service because you love Star Trek and you discover that the customer doesn't, if you really want to. Sure it's incredibly stupid, and will most likely hurt your business, but that's your problem...and maybe that's actually for the best for the rest of the world.
If you love religion so much, go back to the Middle Ages, where religion was as its prime. Yeah, the Middle Ages, where kings and queens were considered divine souls, most of the population was under a few and religion was the center of everything. I am no USA historian, but I think that it wasn't only for the religion the colonies wanted freedom.
Ditto
Don't misunderstand my post: I do not agree with any kind of discrimination and/or prejudice. But I prefer to know when a person does, so I can treat them accordingly, instead of forcing them to hide it away and pretend they are decent people when they aren't.
I hope you are joking, but…
I personally, believe that business owners should indeed have the right to refuse service to anyone they s… moreee fit.

I think that if the business owner is religious, and if he views homosexuality is wrong, that he is well within his right to refuse them service.

Business owners have the right to set standards for their places of business, and both employees and customers are obligated to follow… [view original content]
