I am starting to lose faith in people
So yesterday Digital Spy interviewed Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner for their roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The interviewer asked what do they think about shipping of different character pairs from the franchise, specifically Black Widow with Hawkeye and Captain America. The fact that Black Widow is now interested in Bruce Banner, made Jeremy Renner say "She's a slut." with Chris completing his sentence with "She is a complete whore."
It was a harmless joke and a funny one too. But then a fuckin shit storm hit. Feminazis from Tumblr came in attacking Chris and Jeremy. And they had to APOLOGIZE to the media about joke they made about a fictional character.
Fuck this. I am out.

Not a massive deal, just disappointing. A slut-shaming ‘joke’ is what you would expect from tweens or teens not full grown adults. It’s a shame too because Joss Whedon is fundamental in his views on equality.

Um, I'm pretty sure people on this forum lost their shit when somebody on The Playing Dead said Sarah was annoying and they were glad she was dead. I think he got fired (?), but everybody here was going on about his 'ableist' attack on the 'neurodivergent,' so I'm pretty sure it's not just tumblr.
As to the joke, I don't think it's harmless and I don't think it's appropriate. It depends on what reaction you're talking about on Tumblr, but if people made a post or a tweet saying "Not cool, there's still a double standard, etc..." fine. If it's 'Boycott The Avengers! Blacklist Chris Evans! Cancel Colbert!' then yes, that's waaaay too far.
And remember, when it comes to The Avengers, a good number of people lose all sense of proportion. Same thing with sexism, put the two together and this is what you get.

There are a lot of pricks on Tumblr anyways, so I ain't surprised. I do have to admit, the joke was a little rude and out of nowhere. But it's nothing to lose your shit about, don't worry.

Why are people still giving Tumblr attention? Common sense would tell you if you don't think a group of people's opinions are sensible, to either ignore them completely or try to gain an understanding and possibly sway their opinion. But all people do is point at Tumblr and laugh and constantly ridicule the people who inhabit the site. And this is why I do minimal amount of fuckery on social media sites, it's all a bunch of spiteful douches that spit acidic thoughts and have a hive mentality.
If you're not a femanazi shitbag, you're an SJW, or some other new label that only serves to make opinions void and separates people from actually discussing anything anymore. And who the fuck cares about what two mediocre actors say about a fictional character in a movie franchise that only makes as much money as it does because of name recognition? The Avengers are now what we consider "steam-worthy" parallels to "controversial" topics? Jesus Christ.
Nobody gives a fuck about the Darfur massacres happening by the millions right fucking now or about the constant water levels rising because of global warming. No no, we need to talk about how 50 Shades of Grey is harmful to films or two shit actors made an obviously snide remark about a fictional character based off a comic book.

The people who got upset at the joke simply didn't get it. The joke wasn't "Black Widow's a slut. Haha." It was "I'm bitter because Black Widow was in a romantic-ish scene with Bruce Banner and not my character so I'm going to call her a slut out of jealousy/sour grapes." In other words, it was poking fun at people who bad-mouth women for rejecting them. Something that should be lauded by feminists.

To be fair being seductive and basically a "slut" is one of Black Widow's skills and is where she gets her code-name from, when she was a Russian spy she infiltrated by seducing men and then killing them, it's pretty much one of the essential characteristics of Black Widow, so to jokingly call her a slut is technically not inaccurate, Black Widow flirts with everyone, it's a skill of hers and one she has no problems with using.
