Farkhunda Beaten and Burned Alive

So, I just received some extremely disheartening news. A young woman was falsely accused of burning the Koran in Afghanistan and was overheard by several members of a Kabul mob last week. She was promptly beaten on the streets and then burned alive.

The info is here...

There also exists a video in which I've watched and... I feel enraged. The savagery on display was immense and this story is beyond troubling. I usually don't get shook up about violence in Afghanistan, but this is so over the limits of depravity it's still hard to grasp. It's also reported several police officers stood idly by and allowed the mob to continue beating her to death. I'd like opinions and discussions, but I actually feel sickened.

I'm not surprised at all... sigh

  • This is horrible, whether she did do it or not you don't fucking beat a woman until her face looks like meat and set her on fire. Why are women treated so horribly over there? The people who killed her and the useless policemen standing by doing nothing should be locked away in cages like the monsters they are.

If it's about the Koran, I don't think it was because she was a woman. If you burn the Koran, they'll set you on fire regardless of what sex you are.

But women are being treated horribly there regardless.

  • I know it wasn't just because she was a woman, but I was also commenting on the terrible way women are treated there in general.

  • Well, it's said in the Koran that a woman = half a man, I didn't expect anything else from Islam.

Been there, seen it, nothing new.

  • It was the fact that the video was shared openly on social media sites by people who had captured it on their mobile phones, so it was on the forefronts of worldwide interactivity.

Something so barbaric, yet anyone can view the entire incident within a few clicks of their Twitter accounts.

  • It's horrifying. I haven't seen the video and I don't have any plans to do so, but it's disgusting that not only would people do something like this to someone else but that they would then share it online. From a few of the articles I read earlier over the subject one of the participants was even bragging about his role in the murder. Completely disgusting. Those who participated in this act aren't people, they're savages.

  • I remember watching a video where a guy was set on fire in a cage. A couple months ago. Those people are out of their mind.

  • Sadly, some people are not and get away with it. Comes to show you what world this loving and benevolent 'God' created.

  • Not really, he meant that everyone are put before God in the afterlife, and are judged. For now, everyone get to do what they please, enjoying the freedom they have and using it for good or bad, they don't "get away" with it.

  • Meh, I'll agree to disagree.

  • Hunting down these criminals would accomplish nothing. Even most moderate Muslims support Sharia Law. The only way to cure the current Islamic world is to either rid it of Islam or convince then to adopt a heavily revised version of their religion. Best of luck on either account.

Please don't insult religions on the whole. These actions are definitely horrendous, but most people of Islam faith outside of the middle east (and even some in the middle east) don't support these actions, so don't group everyone together.

Since this is getting into territory of insulting countries and religions, I've removed the offensive posts, and I'm going to close this. Please remember that this forum is made up of people from all around the world, from many cultures, from many different religions, and from many different countries. We've definitely had people from the middle east post and those of Islam faith post here, so please remember that, and keep in mind that the first rule of the forum guidelines is respect.
