Red Dwarf

One of my favourite television shows of all time has recently had it's eleventh and twelfth seasons announced. After the (surprisingly) great Series X I'm jumping with joy for the upcoming series.

Any of you guys watched this show before? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it. It is extremely funny, has clever writing, and some of the best character interactions and dialogue you'll ever see on television. Heck my favourite episode of the show (Marooned) had literally just the two lead characters (Rimmer and Lister) talking while trying to survive an icy planet, just goes to show an episode can work well with an excellent script. It also has PLENTY of Sci-fi. With convoluted time travel episodes, to parallel universes with female (and canine) versions of yourself, Red Dwarf always pulls one trump card out of it's amazing deck of ridiculous ideas. Granted, some of them have been misteps (COUGHseriesVIICOUGH)

If you have watched it before, feel free to share your favourite episodes, characters, quotes and what-have-you. My favourite episode (as I said above) was Marooned (with Rimmerworld being a close second), the legendary smeghead Rimmer is my favourite character (Lister being a close second) and quotes? Yeah, that's a really difficult one. Think I'll go for one the Cat in The inquisitor;

Cat: I have given pleasure to the world because I have such a beautiful ass.
Inquisitor: Well, that's true.
Cat: Can I go now?
Inquisitor: That's your case?
Cat: You need more?
Inquisitor: Some might say that was a pretty shallow argument.
Cat: Some might say I'm a pretty shallow guy; a shallow guy with a great ass!

I think Rimmerworld has to be my favorite. A whole planet full of Arnold Rimmers was just too fucking funny.

EDIT: Also HOLY SHIT NEW SEASONS?! FUCK YEA

  • "Where is everyone Hol?"

    "They're dead Dave."

    "Who is?"

    "Everybody, Dave."

    "What about Captain Hollister?"

    "Everybody's dead Dave."

    "What, Tod Hunter?"

    "Everybody's dead Dave."

    "What, Selby?"

"They're all dead, everybody's dead, Dave."

    "Petersen isn't, is he?"

    "Everybody is dead Dave."

    "Not Chen!"

"Gordon Bennett! Yes Chen, everybody's dead Dave!"

    "Rimmer?"

"He's dead Dave. Everybody is dead. Everybody is dead, Dave."

"Wait...are you trying to tell me everyone is dead?"

Still remember this scene by heart. :S

"The End" was always one of my favourites. It was easily my favourite episode of the first series.

l like how the actual Rimmer was too weak to even overthrow himself in the end.

And yup! Fully confirmed. Dave (the channel) Tweeted this when it was announced:

  • I liked the first episode, where Rimmer and the other guy, i forget his name are on the ship, and he is studying for the test, and everyone thinks he is a idiot. I haven't watched this show in years though.

  • Rimmer was my favorite character. It was semi funny , but it was so 80s humor, so it was really dated.

Most of Red Dwarf's run was in the 90's. And it has aged well, maybe not production wise. But l still laugh at it more than nearly anything on television at the moment.
