Requesting a mod

I've tried to get in touch with a mod via PM with no response about permanently banning and terminating this account. Assistance would be greatly appreciated

  • what happened? Why were you?

I didn't get a PM but i will ask the other moderators to check their feeds for one so you can discuss this in private.

For now i am going to close this thread.

  • Hey,

I got your PM but forgot to respond to it. I did not issue you a voluntary ban as the mods agreed a while back not to do so any more as it generates confusion (and potential drama) among users if they can't tell why a user was banned. It makes things confusing if a user has done nothing wrong but people still see a ban.

However, if there is any reason you would like us to be aware of for this request, you can PM me or another mod. Sorry for the delayed response.

  • I was going to suggest having a user who asked for a voluntary ban to change his/her Bio to indicate that the ban was by request (and if it's permanent or temporary). However, I just checked a banned user, and I see the Bio isn't shown when you're banned. So it would require a change to the forum software.

So if I'm going to be suggesting changes, how about a "softer" kind of ban, where the user doesn't show up as Banned, but has no public posting privileges. PMs are still OK, and the user can change their Bio to indicate that he/she can't post to public threads. That doesn't draw attention as much as the "Banned" badge but has almost the same effect.

That's actually a recent addition I requested, as certain Banned users would update their bios once they were banned to where they would insult users and/or the mod who banned them from beyond the grave to get the last word in.

  • It's a recent feature; it used to be the case where banned users can update their bios, but I requested that Banned users have their bio replaced with "Banned from the Community" for the duration of the ban so that banned users can't update their bio (or, at least have their bio be seen publicly).

Yeah, I find this irritating because I can't see their recent posts to see why they were banned.

However, I just checked a banned user, and I see the Bio isn't shown when you're banned. So it would require a change to the forum software.

  • I only requested for the bio to change, not for posts to be hidden. That was something extra the web team threw in I guess.

  • By the way, why do you want to be banned?

  • Can you maybe ask them to change that? The posts be hidden?

It helps people find out how people were banned instead of asking in threads and such.

  • Forums have been sort of dry lately and I feel for the amount of arguments and fighting that goes on here nothing really gets done. I won't be participating in any forum activity unless it will help me get closer to getting a voluntary perma ban.

  • Yeah, as long as people don't openly discuss a person's ban, I don't see the harm in that.

Can you maybe ask them to change that? The posts be hidden? It helps people find out how people were banned instead of asking in threads and such.

  • What kind of arguments/fights are you talking about? I don't know exactly your reasons but there's no need to leave. I'm sure there are a lot of people around here who like to have you around. And I know you like to be around here either.

I'm sure you're familiar with it by now. The arguing/ cursing and overall respectful debates turning into immature, heated arguments with no sense or direction.

I agree there are some good people on the forums and I've always enjoyed hearing people's opinions even if I didn't agree with them. I'm always happy to express my limes and dislikes of games TG puts out and I truly appreciate the care, CatWolf :)

Then... leave? And then come back if you want.

I mean do you really need to be banned to stop yourself

I know... but this kind of thing happens everywhere. Just try to stay away from these immature debates.

I truly appreciate the care, CatWolf :)

I do think you should stay. I'm sure there are more pros than cons. But anyway, think about it and pm me if you need. :)

  • You still couldn't find out why he was banned because the comments that got him banned are ussualy deleted
