Yo let's talk about anime

  • True enough, I watched that show and it showed so much promise at the beginning then it proceeded to focus on all the boring parts of the story, it's almost as if they decided to only animate the filler and just talk about the stuff that sounded way more interesting, plus all the characters were pretty boring and the show seemed to act as if there had been some grand arcs in which they changed and grew as characters but those arcs don't exist they just mention them barely, ugh such a terrible show, and everything after the SAO thing ends is somehow even worse, I can't understand why people love that show so much.

Since I've mostly said negative things so far I'm going to list some stuff I like in no particular order.

Cowboy Bebop, like everyone and their mother, it's a great show with great music and animation and lots of style, hard to dislike something like that.

Baccano!, great show about gangsters and a train and stuff that's spoilery with lots of cool interesting characters, also pretty short which is actually a plus in my book.

Fate/Zero Good show, with great animation and interesting characters, lots of intrigue and a cool story, I find it hard to believe that something this good could be a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, the writing isn't even in the same league even if I wouldn't say that the Unlimited Bladeworks anime is bad it's just not the same kind of thing and I would really only recommend watching Fate/Zero and nothing more from the Fate franchise.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Just good stuff, great show with style and good characters, awesome music and a kick ass ending also only 12 episodes long and with a fantastic ending which is really rare when they go for the pretentious philosophical stuff, but it really works here.

Welcome To The NHK! Interesting show about the "Hikikomori" psyche, which is a thing in Japan (And probably the rest of the world but it just doesn't have a name in most of the world), anyway a good show that's pretty much all abut the main character's rather unstable state of mind and his aversion to going out of the house, it's also surprisingly funny but it has a fairly dark sense of humour and it's generally pretty bleak but it's a great story, definitely worth a watch.

Stein's Gate I just love time travel and this was a good time travel story, also pretty funny, but anyway good stuff, plus extra points for having techno babble that makes sense and somehow seems grounded in reality, unlike the movie Primer in which the techno babble sounded real but was damned hard to understand, I still like that movie though, like I said I love Time Travel (12 Monkeys is my favourite movie).

Psycho Pass Season 1 Good sci-fi cop show with interesting morality conundrums and some pretty good characters, just good stuff, I liked the ending too though I disagreed with both of the main character's choices they did feel very true to their characters and made for an interesting finale, the second season is pretty mediocre though and the dip in the writing was so evident that I didn't have to investigate to know that they had changed writers.

Trigun Just a fun show with fantastic characters, it's awesome, the animation doesn't hold up as well as Cowboy Bebop's but the writing, setting and characters do enough to make up for the dated animation.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan Just a fun ridiculous and over the top show that somehow manages to have good characters with good story arcs, also it somehow consistently gets better as it goes on which is something I did not expect since if I'm honest I wasn't liking at first, but still fun stuff worth a watch, it's not even deep stuff either it's just a fun story with good characters and good twists, it's hard to point out what exactly makes this good but everything in this show just somehow works.

Monogatari Series This is kind of bizarre and has lots of fanservice but the dialogue and character interactions are just so good, plus it oozes style and the direction is pretty weird but in a good way, plus when they switch protagonists in the Koimonogatari arc is just so good, I loved watching the show from that character's point of view, it was perfect and I'm kind of sad that I know it'll never be that good again but still good stuff.

Redline That movie is fantastic and the animation is just something else, watch this, it's just pure adrenaline and style I promise you won't regret it, it's about racing but it's a sci-fi thing and they have weapons and overtly stylized cars, it's great stuff.

  • I'm still sad that the Hunter x Hunter anime is over and the manga is on a hiatus. Togashi pls.

  • Been considering about watching Blue Exorcist as of late, looks intriguing.

  • Anime visual novels/games are great, not long got into them. I've bought quite a few on Steam. My favourites would be Nekopara and Sakura Spirit so far.

Visual novels are a lot of fun! They can be a really cool platform to tell a story, and it's a bummer people give the genre such a hard time because of the erotic ones.

I love otome games like Hakuoki because it's an interesting drama with cool characters, regardless of the target audience. Oh, and I love Hatoful Boyfriend. How can you go wrong with a post-apocalyptic dating sim where you romance pigeons?

  • Romancing pigeons? Thats just too damn weird for me lol

Haha well they're human representations of various pigeons, but yeah they're birds. It's a bit of a parody of dating sims.

  • Amazing games if you know what i mean.

Could never really get into anime, it wasn't my cup of tea. Always was an adult cartoon type of person, but Cowboy Bebop was fantastic and I liked Tokyo Majin, but only for the main character on the latter. The rest of the animes I watched were hit or miss, but I mostly watched them because of a bonding opportunity with my older sister.

If you're a big fan of slice of life, I would recommend Oreimo (but only the first season, the rest of that is traditional creepy incest), Anohana, Myself; Yourself and both seasons of Honey and Clover. For humor, definitely try Hetalia (try to steer clear of the fandom though, a lot of people actively mention this ruins the show for them) and Highschool Rumble.

  • Japanese people and their love for fanservice....

I wonder if they are really so horny over there?

  • Well, I been doing some research, and yes, they are a pretty horny people lol

    • Attack on Titan
    • Psycopass
    • RWBY (technically a cartoon)
    • Tiger and Bunny
    • Future Diary
    • Parasyte
    • Gungrave
    • Eden of the East
  • To be fair I come from America and I don't mind the fanservice ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)
