Greatest comebacks in the movie history

What I mean by this title is that when a movie series is laid to rest but gets resurrected with a great sequel. Mine would be:

  • Rocky series with Rocky Balboa
  • First Blood series with Rambo
  • Mad Max series with Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Indiana Jones series with Kingdom of Crystal Skull(I know :P)

Looking forward to your opinions!

Well, I thought Indy 4 was okay , but yeah, I agree with people that say it didn't have the magic that made the original trilogy special and the more I think about the whole Marion thing the more I think it was just there for fan service.

  • I loved Indy 4. I know the abuse of CGI was horrible, but the easter eggs, actors(it was great to have Karen back) and the story was good.

  • The story wasn't bad, the execution was just off and science fiction just isn't Indy.

  • Unfortunately.

  • Batman. After the critical and financial failure of Schumacher's "Batman and Robin," Warner Bros. reboots it and Christopher Nolan gives us the Dark Knight trilogy.

  • Oh my god the rubber fetish of Schumacher...

Science fiction works fine in Indy's world (considering that this is a world where Earthly artifacts have magical powers, non-Earthly relics certainly aren't far fetched). It worked well for Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine (which basically had the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls finale years previously, but handled it in a better way).

The released film was certainly not the best (the CGI creatures, nuking the fridge, and especially the tarzan swinging scene definitely ruin the experience in the theatrical edit), but fans have done a great job making it a more cohesive story through fan edits.

  • Schwarzenegger looked like he was having a blast doing that role.

When I read "Comeback" I was hoping this'd be a thread full of sick "Burn" responses.

  • So did I. I was extremely disappointed.

  • Sorry :P But if you want you can still post burn responses. Wouldn't matter to me.

  • I have such low standards that the latest Indiana Jones movie was enough good.

  • It's really just how forgettable Indy 4 is that bothers me, you can pretty much live without it and I don't think that was the intention.

  • I'll say this: Batman Forever was a much better Batman movie compared to Batman Returns.
