Witcher questions

The Witcher world is shaping up to be my newest obsession. So I've asked myself some questions and now I pose them to you. (Sorry in advance for any incorrect information.) SPOILERS AHEAD

  1. If you could, would you attempt to become a Witcher? (Only 3/10 boys survive the Trial of Grasses, you become infertile, you lose most emotions, etc; but you become a fucking Witcher!)

  2. What was going to destroy the Alder Folk world? Was it the white frost? (And did Ciri save their world be ending the white frost?)

  3. The white frost is supposed to be the end all in the Witcher world, but when venturing through the portals to speak with Ge'els (spelling?) we discover a world that had ended from a lack of water... what's up with that? Does Ciri also need to end the "orange sand" prophecy as well?

  4. How did Ciri end the white frost after the tower sceen? Is it a sentient being that she cut down with her sword? And ancient curse she dispelled with her wibbly wobbly timey wimey space stuff? How did going to that one place end the procephecy? Kinda cop-out-ish if you ask me...

    1. Probably not, assuming we're talking about the time period the books and the games take place in you'd just be despised for all your trouble anyway. The drastically extended lifespan might be nice at least.

    2. The White Frost was going to, yes. In the books, Eredin and Avallac'h wanted the original king of the Aen Aelle to impregnate Ciri so they can use the child to make massive jumps between worlds like they used to be able to, in order to run from the White Frost...which is why Eredin shouting about how he's going to kill Ciri slowly is a bit odd. I imagine he was lying.

    3. Well, the White Frost doesn't necessarily mean a civilization can't be wiped out by other means. The White Frost is basically just the brick wall at the end of the road, you can still get knocked off of it before you reach it.

    4. That, I'm not sure. I imagine it just had something to do with her blood as usual, seeing as you can find a note from Jacques de Aldersberg/Alvin saying he tried the same thing Ciri did and failed. They would have done well to explain that one more.

The whole Aen Aelle/Wild Hunt/Alternate worlds storyline was dialed down quite a bit in the games. I don't think CDPR's writers were comfortable with how sci-fi it could get at times. Probably fair.

  • 2."like they used to be able to do"

Was that by using Lara Dorren and her Elder Blood? Also, the ElderBlood didn't originate from Lara Dorren correct? She was just the last Aen Aelle to have it?

And... if the white frost could be destroyed by someone with Elder Blood (like Ciri did) why did the Aen Aelle have to keep running from it? Why not just send in one of Lara Dorren's predecessors?

    1. How did the note say he tried to stop it? Did she just cut her wrist and soak the snow in her blood? Maybe they'll cover that in the DLC.... but I doubt it.

PS I would be a witcher. So much bad assery

I have a question for you. I had a conversation with Ciri at the circus of nonhumans outside of Novigrad (after the battle of Kaer Morhen and before the battle with Eredin). During the conversation I told her that "Gifts can be renounced..." (referring to her gift/curse of having elder blood), to which she replied "It's not that easy. I tried that once, remember? Besides, even if doing that did free me of Eredin.... (etc.)"

What is she talking about there? How did she try to renounce it before? And how might doing it again free her of Eredin?

I mean before the Conjunction of the Spheres, they used to be able to do it. And, IIRC, it's her descendants that are special, with human blood and Aen Aelle blood. I need to read the books again however.

  • She renounced all magic in the books, hence why she never uses any spells. And remember, Eredin tracks her whenever she uses her abilities.

  • Ahhh so she just stopped using the powers of the gift, got it. Thanks again :)

  • Sooo if any Aen Elle and humans have children they'll have more Elder Blood people? That doesn't seem right. If it's explained in the books I'll know soon enough, thanks :)

I'm absolutely scraping the back of my mind right now, so it's fully possible I'm wrong. I last read the books about 12 years ago, and still haven't read Lady of the Lake. TW3 was a good refresher, but not entirely. :S
