Should I get Lucas or Roy?
I just bought Ryu for Smash on my 3DS, and I only have enough money for one more character. I'm really torn and I could use some help from people who have played either these characters yet.

Lucas i have never really gotten into smash last smash game i ever tried was the wii 1 but i would say go for lucas in my personal opinion
I haven't used either yet, but from what I've read and seen so far, Roy is much better than Lucas is. And even though they are both similar to Marth and Ness respectively, Roy is much better than Marth, than Lucas is to Ness.
Also Roy's our boy.
Roy is much more unique than he was in Melee and he is also better as well. I'd recommend him, unless you absolutely don't want another Marth clone when you already have Lucina whereas Ness has no clones without DLC.
Get Lucas because Roy's a clone.

Roy has the exact same fuckin moveset as Marth. The only difference is that he has fire on his sword. They're both clones.

Alright then, how does he play differently?
He has a unique neutral B special, actually, and that's ignoring the other differences in speed, attack strength, etc.
That's it? One move and speed/attack differences? Speed/attack differences don't really mean anything, the moveset is still basically the same. If people care about the differences Roy has, then why are they still pissed off about Dark Pit and Lucina?
Well, that's a simplification but in general, yeah. His attacks have explosions that come from his sword, but the damage for normal attacks is at the base of his sword and not the edge of the sword like Marth. He is faster and stronger than Marth, but you have to be closer to attack enemies. It sounds like a bunch of minute differences, but it actually adds up to a fairly unique character even if their moves are conceptually similar.
Lucina and Dark Pit are much closer to being clones of their original characters and have minimal differences, whereas Roy and Lucas are kinda like Luigi or Falco - they have conceptually similar moves, but still have a large amount of small to moderate differences that add up.

I don't have a Wii U, and I don't think I'm getting one anytime soon. I assume you don't have a 3DS with Smash? That's the only way I can play with you.

He's poweful, and on air he has a pretty good range thanks to his tail, but he's way to floaty for me.
Lucas
I actually enjoy playing with Lucas more than Ness. His moves are basically the same as Ness' moves, but with a slight twist into them that make them feel unique.
Roy
Once again, I have more fun with him more than Marth/Lucina. His attacks are slightly slower than Marth's/Lucina's but they pack a punch. I also enjoy his battle cry every time I use his up special.
Ryu
I played with him a couple of times, but I don't feel satisfied, because I still don't know how to play him properly and I still haven't memorized how to do the red ball move. At least he's a unique character that comes with a fun map.
