The only movie I've seen this year was The Avengers, and it was good. Jurassic World is the only other movie I want to see, but a friend might force me to watch Ant Man...
My reaction to Spy: Another Melissa McCarthy movie? Oh no! Wait, people say it's actually good? Now I'm curious.
Spy is a comedy movie that stars Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law, and Rose Byrne. The movie revolves around Susan Cooper - a middle aged woman who works as an analyst for the CIA. Feeling disappointed in her role as a desk jockey, she wants to prove herself worthy of doing actual spy work for the CIA. Without giving too many spoilers, something terrible happens to one of her beloved colleagues. She views this as an opportunity to prove herself worthy of doing actual spy work, and to exact revenge on those who did it.
From the get go, I immediately assumed this movie would be terrible. I'm going to be honest, I never liked Melissa McCarthy's comedy as it usually comes off as obnoxious and generally unfunny to me. However, McCarthy actually delivers a very good performance in this movie. I am genuinely surprised on how good she was because most of her characters consist of lowlifes or losers that find their happy ending because why the fuck not. Thankfully, that isn't the case here with this character. Sure she can be still considered a loser, but what's different about this character is that she fully demonstrates how she is capable out on the field. And no, it's not because the script said so. The writers have perfectly established that her character can take care of herself in tough situations. I was fully convinced that she can be a good spy despite her size and demeanor. Other performances that were very good in this film were from Rose Byrne and Jason Statham. They were one of the best things about this film. Rose Byrne plays the devious and sexy villain, while Jason Statham plays the cocky and hot headed colleague of Melissa McCarthy. I loved Statham's character because he's the narcissistic asshole that says he's the best at everything, but then continues to fuck up in someway. Rose Byrne completely stole my heart here. I love them sexy and devious dames in films. I go head over heels for them every time. Her character was pretty funny as well.
The comedy and action in this film were surprisingly good. The comedic timing was usually spot on, and the insults that each character gave had me laughing. Well for the most part, but I'll get into that later. If you ask me, the movie was funnier in terms of what was happening. Of course some of the dialogue is funny as well. The fight scenes were choreographed extremely well, and these fight scenes add on to the credibility of Melissa McCarthy being a capable spy. The film is also surprisingly violent. I may sound sadistic for saying this, but I love it when movies have this sudden scene of violence. I feel like it adds on to the impact of the film. But of course when the violence is nonsense, that's when I don't like it. As a matter of fact I cringe at it.
This film isn't without it's negatives. One of the characters I absolutely despised was Melissa McCarthy's sidekick, Nancy. She was annoying as fuck. Her character completely fits the bumbling idiot persona that manages to win something because the script said so. The moments where she tried to pass off as funny were more awkward if anything. I was actually embarrassed watching what happens with her rather than laughing. With that said, some of the comedy doesn't work with this movie. Some of the dialogue and jokes weren't very funny at all. Yes, there were some good ones, but they usually felt forced. For example, at one point in the film McCarthy's character goes on a gigantic tangent and starts spewing vulgarities and insults left and right. It all felt awkward, and it actually made me dislike the film because of it. The whole stupid tangent started to die down soon after and everything was good from there. Another negative I have with the movie was some of it's plot points. There were a few McGuffin like moments in the film that felt out of place, and were only needed because the writers couldn't think of anything else.
Overall: Spy is a very good comedy film. The jokes are usually hits or misses, but you'll probably find yourself laughing at the situations that happen in the movie. If you like McCarthy, then you'll most likely enjoy Spy. Hell, I thought she did good in this movie. Everyone in the movie did a substantial job, except for whoever played Nancy. I didn't like her at all. Please McCarthy, start doing comedies like this. I'll start liking your movies more.
Grade: B
If you've seen Spy, tell me what you thought about it.
It was a fairly solid film in my opinion. Some elements could've been done a lot better, but for what it is, I'd say it's worth seeing at least once. I give it a 7/10.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I will agree some jokes didn't really fly well for me, but the ones that were funny were really fucking funny. Especially Staham's scenes.

Mad Max 8/10 i thought it was a great actions film. nothing more. i seriously don get why people say its a 9/10 or 10/10. some say i have to watch the others to understand it, others say i dont. well i like the action top notch, but... what it is about?? whats the point?
I thought it was great, but not 10/10 or A+ worthy. And I don't think you necessarily have to watch the other films to understand this one. Mad Max is one of those epic action packed post apocalyptic movies. I don't know how else to explain other than it's an epic action movie franchise. That's how I see it at least.

but if its action and high pace shit you want to see its certainty awesome in that department

Max is essentially the middle man in the movie. He was just unlucky enough to get caught in the midst of Furiosa's and Immortan Joe's battle. If anything, this was mostly Furiosa's movie.

Well I for one have seen plenty of movies so far, and for the most part I have quite enjoyed them, the year is not half way through, and I can safely say this will be a great year for films. First movie worth seeing was Kingsmen, it was far better then I thought it would be, what a great send up of spy movies, and Collin Firth was so good.
I was somewhat disappointed with Neill Blomkamps latest movie Chappie, I didn't Elyisum and I loved District 9, I don't know what went wrong, but something sure did. Maybe it was those two stupid street gangsters played by a band, probably that, let's go with that.
Then, and this may make me sound insane, but this was easily the biggest surprise of the year for me. Now, I really love animated film, Disney films in particular, hell Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite movies period, but oh lord are those live action remakes awful. Alice in Wonderland was terrible, made me give up on Tim Burton for several years, and Maleficent was so damn insulting to the original 1959 classic, that I could type for hours on what that movie fucked up. I was not hopeful for a remake of Cinderella, but I my girlfriend wanted me to go, so I went willingly. I walked out in astonishment, because it was actually pretty great. It should not have been good, but it was Probably was the fact they got an actually good director, and great actors from Cate Blanchett to Richerd Madden, the man who played Robb Stark on Game of Thrones.
Well, moving on, Furious 7 was a hell of a fun time, and was a fantastic send off to Paul Walker, as it should have been. I also saw Avengers 2 as most people did, and walked out liking it quite a bit. Sure, it wasn't as good as Avengers 1, but I never expected that, so I wasn't disappointed. Could have used less Hulk romance though, well at least Scarlett Witch was cool.
There were probably other movies I saw in April and early May, but I can't remember them, because Mad Max happened. I had never scene a Mad Max movie before, and when I read those reviews I quickly saw all three movies, and was hooked. Loved Road Warrior, and couldn't wait to see it. Man were those reviews right, it is one of the greatest action movies of the past decade, it was so damn intense that I was still sweating a good half hour after it had ended. The seat I had was one of those reclining seats, and the movie was so damn intense I couldn't lean back, I had to keep my feet on the floor. Damn! What a adrenaline rush! If it wasn't for motherfucking Star Wars coming in December, i'd just write the year off as over and say Fury Road was the best movie.
What a strange year, my favorite films so far were a sequel to a series that had been dead for 30 years, and a live action remake of a animated fairytale from 1950. You know, the two types of movies that generally aren't great? What a strange yet great year.
After giving it some thought, I think Kingsman is my favorite movie of the year so far. I initially said Mad Max was better, but I've ultimately chosen Kingsman over Mad Max. I still love it though. There ain't nothin more badass than being a gentleman that can kick the shit out of a shithead.
I was somewhat disappointed with Neill Blomkamps latest movie Chappie
I kind of expected Chappie to flop from the start. It didn't look very good to me. Actually, it didn't look good at all. I mean, i didn't even like the name they chose for the movie. Chappie sounds stupid to be honest. I still haven't seen it, but I guess I'll rent it to see what's so bad about it.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a big fanatic of Disney/Pixar films. Of course I love movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and especially The Incredibles, but they a lot of them feel too immature for me. Obviously it's for kids, but still. I look forward to the mature aspects of cinema.

Your right, I probably should have seen it coming, hell I don't even like the name Chappie, but I could have overlooked it if it was good. It wasn't, i'm still optimistic for his Alien reboot sequel though, but I can't say I recommend this movie, just see Short Circuit or Robo Cop, those two movies are heavy inspirations and are better anyway.
I understand where you are coming from, Disney/Pixar films aren't for everyone, but to me and plenty of others, they are pretty great most of the time, as long as you avoid those direct to video sequels, ugh, I don't even want to go there. I am really looking forward to there latest film, from what I have read, its apparently one of the most mature Pixar films, and it is directed by the guy who made Up, which doesn't really explanation. Can't wait for June the 19th, hopefully Jurassic World keeps me busy for that time, one can only hope.

Believe me, you need to see Mad Max, its one of those films that demands to be seen in a theater, you won't regret it! Though I must warn you, you might want to take a taxi home directly after watching.

I see, well then drive slow, because after seeing Fury Road, the adrenaline is going to make driving slow and steady a "bit" difficult, let's just put it that way. Also symptoms for Fury Fever include wanting to crash into everything, playing heavy metal incredibly loud, seeing most other action movies as weak, and immediately wanting to see it again.
It was pretty funny and most of the cast did a good job, the only thing I was disappointed from was that Jason Statham (Who I'm a big fan of) didn't have as much screen time as I thought he would but overall, Great comedy and would definitely recommend.
I'm gonna be honest here, I don't usually give Disney or Pixar movies a lot of praise. Yes, I DO like them. But I don't over exaggerate it and say they're the best thing ever like a lot of people tend to do. If anything, the only Disney/Pixar movies that I absolutely love are Up, Toy Story, and The Incredibles. Can Inside Out live up to that hype? Let's find out,
Inside Out follows the little emotions inside of a little girl named Riley. We get to see how these emotions affect her everyday life, and how one distressed situation can drastically change Riley's demeanor. I was super excited to see Inside Out because many consider it to be Pixar's comeback. Lots of people and critics alike are comparing it to Up and Toy Story in terms of heart and emotion. Are they right? Oh fuckin' a yes they are! I have never watched a Pixar movie that has made me cry until this one. It's pretty shallow I know, but I'll explain. The movie is touching and relatable on a wide array of levels. It delves heavily into the concept of growing up and dealing with our feelings. It's something we all go through. If not, then get help. The main attraction in this movie are obviously the emotions. As a matter of fact, they're the main cast. Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust were all fantastic and really stood out. They all have extremely well written dialogue and great chemistry with one another. Sadness was a little annoying in the beginning, but I got around to understanding her near the end. Fear and Disgust had their moments. Joy and Anger were without a doubt the best parts in my opinion. Joy was, of course, up beat and positive all the time, while Anger had his amazingly hilarious quips of rage. There was not a single character I hated in Inside Out.
The technology and little devices in the movie were really well thought out. Things such as "The Train of Thought" and that void where long term memories get lost were really clever and had me laughing. This is the type of movie that both kids and adults can enjoy. Kids can enjoy it because of some of the stupid jokes and beautiful animation, while the adults can enjoy it for the great story and adult humor. That's one thing I'm really glad Inside Out doesn't have: absurdly stupid humor. That's the key word, absurd. It's fine if a movie does have stupid humor in it because it can still add to the comedy. However, there are times when stupid is just too unbearable to handle. Sure something stupid may happen to certain characters at certain moments to get the kids laughing, but most of the jokes told in this film were actually very mature.
One thing I really want to get into was the amount of depth this film had. I'm not going to spoil ANYTHING, but I will tell you the general idea. As I previously stated, Inside Out delves into human emotion and growing up. Happiness, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust is something we all go through. All those memories we have in the past are all nostalgic for us, and we can either be overwhelmed with joy or embarrassment when we remember them. The way the movie tells us what unravels in the story was really well done. These certain emotions and memories also reflect on who you are, and what your personality is like. I was actually worried that the movie would portray it in a poor way in which all of these emotions would just strictly BE that emotion. But no, that isn't the case at all. It may seem like it at first, but continue watching and you'll soon realize that all the characters can have mixed feelings. The level of emotion was so high, I cried. As a matter of fact, I shed a tear at one part in the movie. You'll know 'em when you see 'em. I would really like to tell you the messages and lessons this film conveys, but it's best to let you guys find them out for yourselves. It really makes ya think. If you DO find them out, tell me below! I'd really like to get into a discussion about that.
Overall: Inside Out is an A-mazing Pixar movie with a deep story that reflects upon its viewers. The emotions we all go through, the happy memories that we all hold onto, the happy and sad moments in our lives that could change us for better or for worse. This movie hit me on so many level, I literally cried at a certain part that was just too much for me to handle. If you're a parent, I highly advise you to take your kids out to see this movie. Trust me, you'll enjoy the shit out of it. Inside Out will most definitely go down in cinematic history as a classic, and my final grade for Inside Out is:
Grade: A+
So if you've seen Inside Out, pls share your thoughts on it.
I am actually looking forward to Hitman: Agent 47 coming out in August. Yes, video game to movie adaptions have not had the best track record and that trailer left most of us (includimg me) ripping our hair from our scalps. However, I am holding onto the hope that the story will be faithful enough to the source material and that the actions scenes are balanced out by more source-material- faithful moments. A far fetched hope - indeed - but not improbable.

Yea, I liked Nux's character too. I'm glad he had some sort of character development.
If Mad Max doesn't win best visual effects, I'm gonna be Mad Max...

Shame. You should really see Mad Max and Kingsman.
will they have a dvd and blu ray release ? if mad max is still in theaters thats a possiblity on my list
Of course they'll have Blu Ray/DVD releases lol. Mad Max is still in theaters, while Kingsman has been out on Blu Ray/DVD since yesterday.
ok
then i guess ill be checking mad max in theaters
Though I must warn you, you might want to take a taxi home directly after watching.
well here in the countryside we dont have taxi's so thats impossible
I see, well then drive slow, because after seeing Fury Road, the adrenaline is going to make driving slow and steady a "bit" difficult, let's just put it that way. Also symptoms for Fury Fever include wanting to crash into everything, playing heavy metal incredibly loud, seeing most other action movies as weak, and immediately wanting to see it again.
And I saw Spy......
It was pretty funny and most of the cast did a good job, the only thing I was disappointed from was that Jason Statham (Who I'm a big fan of) didn't have as much screen time as I thought he would but overall, Great comedy and would definitely recommend.
My must see list ...
Inside Out movie review
I'm interesed in these movies:
So has anyone seen Inside Out yet?
Lol. I've got really low expectations for Hitman: Agent 47. Are there ANY good video game movies out there? Or at the very least watchable?
You'd make a very good critic. I wish I could write film reviews like you can.
