The Philae Comet.

So, Once again, Scientists have found something. A few weeks ago, Scientists stated that We are entering the 6th Period of Mass Extinction. So first it's Mass Extinction, and Now it's Aliens.

Apparently, A Team of Astronauts landed on a Comet earlier, and readings picked Up Micro-organisms. They believe Extra-Terristrial life is on that floating chunk of rock. Look, I honestly thought the Mass Extinction thing was a Government scare, But something about This Comet gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my Stomach.

Look, This is the point where any reasonable and sane scientist who has actually, I don't know, watched a Movie in his life would say, "Hey, Earth is entering the 6th period of Mass extinction according to the others. Bring alien life on earth so It can kill us all is not the smartest Idea, Let's bring those 2 home, and Blow the S**t out of that Comet.", Other than, "DURR. LET'S FIND EM AND SEE EM.".

Whether they're real or not, We do not know these Things, We know nothing of them, Hell, we don't even Know how to teach Children what American history really was, Much less know about a fucking Organism we found on a Floating rock. For all we know it could be a Symbiotic Parasite, or an Air-Borne infection, Or something much worse. If we really are going into Mass Extinction, and that Alien organism is dangerous, How the hell is this gonna increase our chances at survival?

If there's something up there, Studying it is not the smartest solution... I say we blow it to hell.

What is everyone else's opinion about this?

    Can I have some sources?

Also, do we really need to mock someone for making a thread about something they find interesting?

No...But I did. Apologies if anyone took offense. I just find it personally...wrong...Alien disease going to possibly kill the Human Race? Bit ridiculous.

  • fair enough. I'm curious if OP has some sources.

  • Sure as hell didn't quote them...Also...Don't you think we would hear about this?

I cleared out the insults. Everyone, please don't insult people for what they post. Remember the first guidelines of the forums is respect. Here's some sources:

Earth is on brink of a sixth mass extinction, scientists say

Possible Signs of Alien Life on Comet: Philae Lander Detects Promising Features on Comet 67P

  • No astronauts have landed on a comet ever, and no organisms were found on comets ever.

  • I genuinely don't understand. At all.

I mean there is some truth to it, but it sounds like a drunk post more than anything.

  • It's being blown way out of proportion here. The great extincion will take hundreds or thousands of years, the comet was landed on by a drone that died immediately and a while later sparked up again for a bit when it caught some sun. According to Jennifer's link it found conditions that could possibly support micro-organisms, but no such organisms were actually found.

No astronauts have ever landed on a comet because they move so fast. The fact that the European Space Agency's Philae lander was able to make a successful landing on Comet 67P is simply a fantastic feat of mechanical engineering.

But, yeah, since the Philae lander doesn't have any tools on board to actually search for alien life, it's nothing to be worried about. It may cause scientists to build another lander with drilling tools to go up there later, but since the landers are so sophisticated and take so much money to produce, it's not likely that they'll attempt another landing for quite some time.

No astronauts have landed on a comet ever, and no organisms were found on comets ever.

  • It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. And I feel fine.

  • Aww, You didn't need to do that Jennifer. They were just trolls anyway. But thank you. :)

  • And I was just starting to like this place...

  • Meh... In the end, I bet this might just be another Government scare.

Woah, hold on people, this is a comet we're talking about here.

Before we do anything else, we need to stop and make sure none of the micro-organisms have on sexist shirts.

  • We also got to vaccinate them for every human disease.

  • You know. This was a serious discussion thread about an actual thing in News. And everyone has turned it into a Joke thread

  • Well, Puh already said the truth here:

  • Still. This ain't a joke thread.

  • Every thread can be a joke thread and every thread will most likely have some jokes with in it. When the subject at hand has been dealt with and disproven, then what else should we do except have a little fun?

Still. This ain't a joke thread.

  • I initially thought this was a joke thread and my comments were deleted. You might want to change the OP to have a more serious discussion.

Still. This ain't a joke thread.
