I feel at times I'm one of the few people that played through the game, had a blast, were intrigued by th… moree characters and their developmental arcs, finished it, and then didn't think that a sequel was at all necessary. The game's ending was damn near perfect by all means if you're willing to sit back and analyze it. It's not a "To Be Continued..." ending, it's an ambiguously woven tense emotional standoff between two people who are most certainly going to drift apart and I don't really need to see where their journey will go next.
I just hope that the title is the only thing that will stick and they won't use Joel and Ellie anymore, I wish we could just have a single IP that doesn't get sequel after sequel.
The Last of Us was, despite what some may say, superb. But now it's under threat of being tarnished because a couple fat cats knew there was still a profit to be made and then the involvement of the story and characters will come afterwards.
The game wasn't pointless, but the ending could be taken as such. That was covered in the previous post, which I went more in depth on and c… moreovered why taking "pointless" at face value is the incorrect way to approach it. There is much more there than "well, we didn't get a cure." Just as there was more to the ending of TWDG S1 than "well, we found her parents."
The negativity that faced Mass Effect 3s ending wasn't that it was a bad, or pointless, ending, it's that after 3 games of making so many varying choices there were only 3 possible endings to get. Not the same, seeing as TLOU never even remotely hinted at being anything but linear.
There was a conclusion, whether you agreed with Joel's choice or not. I'm not going to argue whether Joel's choice was correct of incorrect.

Well maybe it wasn't as bad as Mass Effect 3, but when i found out the TLOU was going to end i was super pissed and threw my controller.
I remember freaking out and yelling what a waste of time.
I said the ending was realistic, because it was. Joel's actions were very human, very real, and therefore very realistic. The combat was fairly realistic, but only fairly. If you had a realistic combat game not many people would enjoy it, or even be able to get past the first level, or even get past the first building. The chances of Joel being able to kill as many people as he did, and avoid all of the deaths he should have met, is laughable, but that's not what we were talking about.
If your quarrel is that the game had you kill too many people for the sake of an enjoyable gameplay experience then I won't argue that point, but I think it's a silly thing to be annoyed by. Perhaps they should have just put 2 or 3 enemies per "combat zone", that woulda been really exillarating, yeah?

If we want to bring up something controversial then, Hitler believed what he was doing is right. Most of the people who followed Hitler believed he was right. It's all completely subjective.

Making a sequel doesn't mean they're just doing it for the cash you know. They may actually have a good idea for the story to continue
