WatchMojo: Kenny is the #2 best dad in gaming!

edited July 2015 in The Walking Dead

Can't wait to see what all the prepubescent Kenny haters (and there are too many of them) response will be to this one, since to them Kenny is the devil himself and the root to all evil.

I'm not all too fond of Kenny, but he was a damn good father after the outbreak.

  • He is a pretty good father, no denying that he would do anything for his child.

We are here. & I love you too

  • I can't really agree with this list when it comes to Harry Mason.

I think he deserves more credit than most fathers in video gaming, considering that he quite literally goes through hell to find his lost daughter who is eventually revealed to be nothing but the second half of the soul of a victimised and angry girl who is tortured into giving birth to a God. He kills said God, and spends another fatherhood raising the 'complete form' of his 'daughter' after the canon ending, all while on the run from The Order who wants to kill him for stealing the girl away from their twisted cult.

Sure Harry Mason may not be the most fleshed out father figures personality wise, but by actions alone he wins in my book.

  • Yes, when your child is dying, ignore it. That's what a good dad would do!

  • Yes! I love Kenny he's my favourite.

  • Does TLOU really have to get 1 on everything -_- fuck that nonsense

  • The dad who called his son dumb as a box of hammers, lol. Okay, Watchmojo.

  • Uh huh. The guy who wasn't there for two years of Duck's life to actually be a father and raise the kid, when he was really out fishing out on a boat "or somewhere" instead as he admits to Clem. That guy? Please.

  • Damn it, I entered this thread for the sole purpose of bringing up Harry Mason, but I'm glad someone else recognizes that guy. Some kids looked up to heroes like Luke Skywalker back in the day, or Han Solo. Me? Harry friggin' Mason. Admittedly, I was probably just so engaged in the game itself that the waves of awesome radiating off of it transferred to Harry and shaped my opinion of him, since as was said, there's not much to him as a character. But none of that changes the things he did and the lengths he went to in the name of saving and then protecting his daughter.

Also, best voice acting ever. We all know it's true.

  • I wouldn't say from what we know that Kenny was a good father before the outbreak but after it, ahh, yeah. He was a good father that's for sure, he did everything a good parent would and that's all you could ask from him. He really did care for Duck and treated him well. I can't say I like Kenny but you can't fault him on being a good father.

  • That depends on your point if view.

  • Watchmojo also had him number 3 in the "Top 10 Telltale's the walking dead characters"(Lee was number 2 and Clementine number 1)

  • .... It's called denial and it's literally one of the Stages of Grief. It's a normal human reaction. I went through it when my nephew died.... I certainly wasn't ignoring it.

As much as I like Kenny, I think he was placed too high on the list. Yeah, he did his best to protect his family, but there were other dads on that list who did a shitload more than he did to protect their families. Like John Marston, who took on outlaws, wild animals, and the frickin' US government in the end. Or, as said earlier in this thread, Harry Mason who literally went through Hell to save his daughter. Kenny earns a spot on the list, but he's more deserving of a place somewhere in the 7-9 range than the number 2 spot.

  • not this shit again

  • The "Kenny haters" are the prepubescent ones, really? As an outsider who has been looking in on this whole Kenny vs -Insert character- beef since it's inception, It seems to me that the die hard "Kenny supporters" are the prepubescent ones given their strongly illogical arguments of why he's so great.

But sure, Kenny is a good enough dad. Ethan is far better in my opinion.

  • Kenny is the #2 dad in gaming!

  • Meh the Kenny haters and Kenny fans go hand and hand with their prepubescent nonsense.

Ethan is far better in my opinion.

Agreed he had to do it for SHAUN!!!! he had no choice

  • I agree, being a shitty dad in that situation was a normal human reaction.

He was still being a shitty dad though.;) Not to mention husband.

  • I'm inactive for a couple months only to come back and see nothing has changed on the topic of Kenny. Well, lots of people love him, lots of people hate him, I love him, we'll leave it at that

...Why the heck is Lee not on this list? I mean, wasn't that the whole point of Season 1? Surrogate father or not, Lee's still a great father figure. And Joel (of tlou), the number 1 on this list, was a surrogate father too. So seriously, Kenny's a better father figure than Lee?! What bull.

Edit- oh they're not doing father figures.

  • I find that if most people were put in the same situation, they'd deny it.

  • Well there will always be people like yourself that will never like Kenny no matter what which is fine. I'm a fan of Kenny, disagreed with him on a few things but all in all, like Lee said "Kenny's solid, he's just been through a lot"

they must be high while making this. Kenny = shit

  • Lee should have been the second best dad in video games (even though he wasn't really Clem's dad) - why is a sociopath like Kenny up there, why is this violent monster so insanely popular - seriously, what is Kenny's appeal, he's such an unlikable person and just keeps causing problems, well maybe not all the time, but anyone stuck with him in the long term always ends up suffering (Katja and Duck, Sarita, that other guy, Arvo, Jane, and determinately Clem, etc).

  • I liked Kenny in the first episode, then he became more and more unlikeable. I will never understand why people like him so much because of the way he treats the other characters, Lee especially who was supposed to be his best friend. I didnt just decide out of the blue that I wasnt going to like him. That was all him.

Luckily, since Clem also has the same curse following her and anyone that sticks with her, that means they cancel each other out
