  • I just saw this on Twitter and I can't fucking believe it. Man this really fucking sucks. R.I.P. Satoru Iwata - You were amazing and made millions of people smile.

  • Raising my Wiimote in solidarity. He had bile blockage of some kind for a long time; he had bile cyst surgery last year.

    Rest in piece, Iwata.

  • Rest in Nintendo Heaven, Satoru Iwata.

RIP. 55 is still way too young an age to die. My condolences to his family, and the rest of the company.

  • "Hey fucks,do a bear role!"

  • I can never watch Nintendo Direct videos the same way ever again. He went away way too damn soon.

  • Didn't really know, him, but RIP.

  • It is sad news indeed... What a solemn way to end the day.

  • Way too young. What the hell Iwata? Why weren't you carrying a 1-UP?

  • I was wondering why he wasn't in the Nintendo Directs lately, I know why now. A piece of him will always live through every Nintendo game.

    Rest in Peace Mr Iwata.

Whelp, he was a pretty good CEO for what it's worth, I mean he made some poor decisions and what he did was not perfect but unlike others you could see that he really cared about his company, his employees and his the products that they made, I mean not any CEO would cut 30% of his own salary to keep things running somewhat smoothly when things aren't going well for their company, I think he was a good man and not afraid to joke and make fun of himself and definitely a person to be admired, there aren't many people like him at least not in this business.

He was a great man and not someone whose shoes will be filled easily, thank you for everything Mr. Iwata you definitely brought fun to the world, just like you wanted to.

It was raining when I first heard of this, as if the heavens themselves were saddened.

He died too young for one in this day and age. May he rest in peace.

  • Such sad news. Nintendo was founded in the 19th century as a playing card company, and Iwata was only its fourth President. In all likelihood, he would have had been President for another couple of decades.

  • Shit. Just read this again, I thought He was the President since the begining. God damn am I an idiot

Can a mod Delete my comment please? I feel like a completely dishonored my hero with my Sickness bullshit. I knew all of the true facts about him, and yet I got everything wrong... I don't want to continue to dishonor him, so if you could do me a favor and delete this, That'd be great...

  • Show some respect to Mr. Toyota.

  • Can't say I'm sad, because I didn't know him personally. But I have to say that I find it ironic that some people are sad only because of his contributions to the video gaming industry and not because the person itself is gone. RIP though.

Maybe they can hire someone who can compete with Sony/Xboner now

Completely uncalled for and unnecessary, maybe a few months after this. But the day after the man dies? Jesus, no respect in the slightest.

  • It would be nice to play actually good 3rd party games, unlike EVERYDAY HORSES or MAGICAL MAKEUP CHALLENGE.

  • and please don't get out of your way into disrespecting the deceased.

    Respect works both ways.

  • Guys, let's try to get back on topic. Thanks.

  • Sad to hear that Satoru Iwata has passed away, best Nintendo President ever.

  • Shigesato Itoi (the creator of Earthbound/Mother) reflects on his frienship with Satoru Iwata: https://yomuka.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/shigesato-itoi-reflects-on-his-friendship-with-satoru-iwata/

When I’m parting with a friend, regardless of the circumstances, I find it best to just say, “See you later.” We’ll meet again. After all, we’re friends.

That’s right—nothing unusual about it. I’ll see you later.

You went on a trip far, far away, even though it was planned for many years from now. You wore your best outfit and said “Sorry for the short notice,” though you didn’t say it out loud.

You always put yourself last, after you’d finished helping everyone else. You were so generous as a friend that this trip might be your very first selfish act.

I still can’t grasp what’s happened. It feels like I could still get a light-hearted e-mail asking me out to lunch at any moment—after you’ve made sure lunch wouldn’t disrupt my schedule, of course.

You can invite me out whenever you want. I’ll invite you, too.

So for now, let’s plan on meeting again. You can call me up whenever you like, and I’ll give you a call, too. I still have a lot to talk to you about, and if I come up with any particularly good ideas, I’ll let you know.

    So let’s meet again.
No–I suppose we’re already meeting. Right here, right now.

  • Very sad. :(

    R.I.P. Satoru.

  • Really, really sad news for the gaming industry. We lost a great man

  • RIP Satoru Iwata. You were a kindred spirit.
