Wondering, why do people like Luke?
Okay stop yelling please, I'm sorry, calm down.
It's been awhile since I completed season 2, and the only good part I remember about him is that he was cute. I remember I really liked him at the beginning, but I cannot for the life of me remember anything good he did. I only know I did because I had a headache deciding who to sit with. I remember he slept with Jane and almost got us killed, kind of a dick to Clem, made you feel bad if you decided to leave Sarah behind, ect. ect.
I just didn't get why he was seen as "Clems second protector" when he didn't even compare to Lee, which I think we can ALL agree with.
I don't hold a weird grudge against Luke, and I'm pretty easy to convince. I was replaying s1 and just let Ben have a noble death at the bell and although that was my justification, I also was annoyed he was killing everyone, and I was curious how Kenny "died" if Ben didn't get impaled. But then... BUT THEN CLEMENTINE... She made that comment on how good people put others before them, like Ben.
and then I liked Ben again. v: So I'm sure I could feel similar about Luke.
EDIT
Jeez, wow... The Walking Dead has a pretty open and alive fandom or whatever still, that's great!
Thanks for all the comments and opinions, everyone.

Alot of people liked Luke just like how you did at the very beginning. He was a generally nice guy who seemed to care about you and was willing to look after you. But when Kenny was introduced Luke's character really changed. I didn't like his character change he seemed to be on and off. It might have been an ok character idea to have mood swings but this just didn't make sense as far as his character. That's why I didn't like Luke. Now why do people like him? Idk, It's kind of how people play the game. Its like with Jane or Kenny. I always used to think "Why do so many people like Jane" or "Why does everyone hate Kenny?" But I came to realize that everyone has played the game differently. That everyone has there own opinion on a character based on how they played. Everyone is different, I think that's what makes Telltale great. You get a relationship with some characters and you may hate other characters.
You ,Ser, deserve upvote!
I liked him until Episode 3. His character was inconsistent like so many others and he lost any character he had what only added up to him bragging about Art History like it's some sort of episode of Seinfeld. He just ceased to be relevant
Duh :P. No one could compare to Lee.
Luke for me was just a generic nice guy. He didn't seem to have the same nuances to his character that made others, like Lee, Kenny, Nick so much more interesting to me. He was written as a nice guy without much character depth, and thus, I played Clem as kind of distant to him and tried to stay closer to Pete, Nick and Sarah. (Well, we saw how that worked out.)
I liked Luke more in the beginning, mostly because his characterization wasn't so all over the place, but overall he was a nice guy who had good morals that I could both agree and disagree with. I liked that he was human and made mistakes, but from what Nick said on how Luke could just keep moving despite it all instead of falling apart like Kenny did, I admired that . And I think after Lee and the bond we had with him and Clementine within Season 1, that sibling dynamic with Luke and Clementine was just so refreshing and adorable, it clicked with me.
But that time spent with Luke in those early episodes, I really enjoyed them. It set him up as someone interesting to me with his character without having to share much on his past and I was eager to learn more about him and where they were taking him, especially after how well Nick was handled in Episode 2...but then, nothing really happened apart from the art thing...and then, Luke died ಠ_ಠ pretty badly.
Ugh [goes back to writing fanfic]
Luke was alright. He was just an inconsistent character, especially at episode 3. First he wants to escape with everyone, then wants to abandon Kenny.
I'm being serious, this is the reason I fell in love with Luke. This action, just the action nothing else. Who knew a tiny little thing like this could make me attached to him? XD But it did.
Although I did like his morals, I loved how he really tried with Clem, he saw her as a little girl that was capable of doing things and that is exactly what Clem is. Yes, some people say Luke is inconsistent and he is, but we have to analyse that now. Like in episode 3 people say that Luke suggesting leaving people behind is out of character but it isn't. Luke is known to panic under pressure and he had tried hard to persuade to group not to leave in their current condition, when everyone rejected that because Carver is crazy, Luke suggested leaving some people behind if they're in no shape to go, it was their last option and with everyone rejecting Luke's other idea, that was the next best thing. That isn't really out of Luke's character, it was just him trying to open up the options because it looked like Kenny wasn't going to be ready.
I never understood this, I really don't. He protected her from getting shot by Nick on the bridge and tried to stop her from helping him on the ice but he wasn't her protector. He was her friend and maybe even a brotherly figure, which I strongly believe he was.
I think that was the grief and guilt talking. I mean Luke's head must have been all over the place. He chased Sarah, tried to help her and then left her behind. He couldn't believe it, he didn't want to believe it. It must have been hard for him to admit to himself that he let a teenager get eaten alive by walkers and he could have done something about it. So he went for the next best thing, blaming someone. That was the one way he could try and make himself feel better but to be honest he did just say 'I didn't think you'd leave her' Clem was the last person with Sarah and with the impending doom approaching Clem could only get out of there so Luke must have seen that as Clem's fault that she didn't do more. In the end he just says 'I guess there was just nothin' we could do' and all in all he didn't make you feel too bad about it, he was just experiencing grief, (which on a side note is a thing Luke tries to hide all the time).
It's sad to admit as a Luke fan that sometimes Luke is a bit mean to Clem. To name a few... Um... Struggling here, Uhh, I guess, hmm. That time he, uh, said some things? Can you give an example? I mean yeah, if you tell Bonnie Luke is 'feeling bad about what happened' then he kinda gets insulted and is a bit mean but other than that Luke was just concerned for Clem, argh, what am I forgetting?
Pete and Luke saved Clem in the beginning for absolutely no reason, they didn't have to. He defended Clem later when the whole Cabin Group were arguing over what to do with her. He gave her food. :P He wanted to make sure Clem was ok with staying with them, after all she didn't really have to. (that's not really a good thing, I'm clutching at straws here). He walked all the way to Howe's just to save his friends, I mean his plan failed but at least he tried. He chased after Sarah and tried to get her to leave with him for hours. He saved Jane from falling off the deck. XD He shouted at Clem in the shootout to get behind cover. He can go out in the shootout to save AJ if you don't. He tries to persuade Clem not to help him when he's about to die and tries to get Bonnie to stop saying what she's saying in order for Clem to make it out alive. And if you help him he saves you from a walker. I think that is it, some of them are stupid good things but some of them are valid.
Also thank you for making this thread. It's been a while since I've had a good chance to talk about Luke. ^.^
I liked him until episode 3, he was my favourite until that and I never liked him in episode 4 and 5. He had sex with Jane when a baby was about to come out which caused Sarah to die, he didn't seem care for Nick and Sarah as he didn't react like how he should have, despite being his friends for months, yet he cared for a girl who made him an offer and he reacted Jane's leaving much more than his friends' death. Luke was very damn stupid in Ep5, he wanted to kill the russians rather than stay safe behind cover until Buriko (The bald russian) runs out of ammo. He caused his own death, I can't undersatnd why people felt bad for him when he stupidly killed himself. I don't hate him, but he is not my favourite anymore.
As Nick said, Luke just keeps moving all the time which means he hides his grief, he bottles it up and keeps it buried deep down to make him look strong and able to switch his emotions off. (Clearly he was able to do this until episode 5 where he talks about his grief).
Ok, yeah this was a bit stupid but look at it this way. Just like how some people cry or go crazy when they lose people, Luke was trying to find a way to express his grief without really expressing his grief. Oh, look over there! It's a woman who has offered sex, I guess that will take his minds off things! He reacted to Jane leaving because he was dealing with so much grief he was pushed over the edge when Jane offered him a good time and then up and left (to be honest I think the offer may have come from them both being upset and Jane saying sex will help things because science). When she left, he felt like everyone was just leaving him and he was pushed over the line and the grief began to take over him.
Not his fault, Sarah had no reason to be out on the deck when it was all collapsing and yeah. Even if Luke did his job the walkers would have probably made it up to the deck anyway, with the noise Rebecca was making they would have made it there eventually. Sooo yeah.
I don't mean to challenge your opinions but I will defend Luke, just because I like talking about this.
I think he was popular because he is Cassanova Luke. All the girls love him. They love his soft spoken, non alpha niceguy personality. Personally i ddin't care for Luke, i agreed with Kenny calling him unreliable. In my mind he proved he was unreliable when he let Nick go out, a wounded man to get help, instead of going himself. Maybe he was just scared of being bit, i don't know. I really can't relate with the fear.
The group was going to end up on that deck anyways, so Sarah would've died regardless.
I laughed so hard at that scene, I'm never going to get over how funny I found it XD it was like sitcom of having a little sister walk in on her older brother with his girlfriend. It was too funny, I'm laughing right now!
Sarah began to grow up. She didn't stay inside cause she was tired of staying sheltered all the time and she wanted her group to save her, not like before, yet I should agree cause it was the worst written episode of Season 2. If Luke did his job, less walkers, less people would have defended the deck.
Because he is hawt?
Ikr
Luke did save Clementines life in episode 1 that was a pretty good thing he did. Luke was a good guy I liked his attitude of keep moving and not sitting around crying.
He could've been a talking Llama and I still would've liked him.
i'll drown you in a frozen lake first
Luke the hawt talking llama.
...But that's a poor argument though. Who doesn't like talking llamas?
Umm, hmm, uhh, yeah... Nah bro. There would have been just as many walkers, Luke doing his job or not does not equate to the number of walkers involved.
Remember Luke was just keeping an eye on the perimeter, that would mean he would have seen walkers at the same time as everyone else, he wouldn't exactly be strolling in the trees. Soooo it wouldn't have mattered.
I have just realised this! Oh my god, him doing his job doesn't even matter, the only thing he could do is waste ammo on the walkers. Luke is still in the wrong but this means there's no reason to be mad at him! :O
Yeah people are just waaay too into luke, don't forget luke was the reason kenny got beat because he was caught stealing food or whatever. Actually i think he's so popular because some think he's cute and nice, that's about it.
I'm waaay too into Luke!
Here's the proof:
The point of his job as a watch guard was to spot incoming danger from a distance, and warn his friends as soon as he spotted them. From where he stood he would have had a wider range of view and would have easily seen incoming walkers long before his friends did from a lower level.
Because he allowed himself to be distracted by Jane's offer to have sex, he put all of his friends' lives at risk, and had they not seen the walkers before the snuck up on them, Luke and Jane would have been responsible for the death of everyone. It was a miracle that there were no casualties save for Sarah's determinant death, but her death is still on Luke and Jane (as well as everyone else) for their inaction, having forced everyone to rush to safety without a plan and using the cannon device recklessly.
Had Luke done his job right the group would have been better prepared to defend or hide themselves from the incoming walkers, and Sarah wouldn't need to have died. So yes, there was a very good reason to be mad at him for gambling everyone's lives just for a quickie.
Carver has bad blood with Kenny since the lodge. Luke had nothing to do with what I quoted there ^
idk with you though but Kenny said "Heh.. Fucker.." before Carver killed his eye.
I hope people stop judging a character just because what he or she is capable of. For me, the reason I like Luke is because he is exactly like my good looking, easy-going, but unreliable and reckless brother. I never really pissed off by my brother's incapability and his stupid jokes, because at the end of the day, you know he is someone who will always support you when you needed. And he is someone you can really have a good time with.
In this game, the most memorable moment of Clem and Luke for me are those funny interactions between Clem and Luke on the bridge, the awkward moment when Clem said:"I will come back for you. ……You know what I mean." and the silly rection when Clem make fun of Luke when she is climbing a tower. All those things are so real. You know I thought it many times that if I was in the situation of Clem, I would rather stay with Luke instead of Kenny, becasue I don't want someone to protect me as a baby or sacrifice his life for me, I can't handle it. And I really feel sorry for those guys who can't see my point because either they never had thoes kind of experience or too overwhlemed by the Z apocalypse that couldn't even realize how valuabe and health the relationship of Luke and Clem
Regardless, if luke never got caught being reckless, kenny would have never had to 'admit to taking the radio' that's why i said it was sort of his fault carver took it out on kenny. But hey i don't hate luke i like him a lot and thought he was a great character while he lasted.
Stolen food =/= Missing Radio
Tavia reported it to Carver.
Thank you!!
But Luke was dumb cause he caused his own death. Not like Lee or Kenny.

Whoops my finger slipped and I made something.
Edit: Damn Kurusu beat me to it! Oh well lol. Can we all just make TWDG comics with llamas now, please?
It's not about whether he is a dumb-ass or being a jerk sometimes. A lot of us love him simply because he is so real. I mean not all of your friends can be so rational or tough all the time. they will make mistakes and stubbron in mind sometimes (so does Luke) but generally you still love him or her. It's his personality and the brother-sister like relationship with Clem made us like him.
Examples:
When Luke suggesting Clam to go with hime to across the bridge before everyone else while Carlos don't agree with it, in episode 2. The dialog between Carlos, Luke and Clem is exactly like when my brother want me to go camping with him but my father doesn't want me to go.
And after that, when Clem said: "I don't want upset rebecca" and Luke replied:"Me neither".(Because she can be loud and mean) It's like what me and my brother think of our mum a lot of times.
Clem and Luke respect each other in heart but when it comes to the right time they will still make jocks on eath other. Like when Clem climbing the tower, Luke says Clem is like a monkey which hardly a girl would like to hear. And Clem said Luke looks stupid. AronDracula you must also have some friend you make fun of each other all the time but you still love he/she.
Luke getting caught played a super indirect role to Kenny's beating, sure, but it's hard to blame him for it directly.
Honestly, the walkie-talkie just gave Carver the excuse he was looking for to 'punish' Kenny. Even if the plan worked, he would have just found another way to get Kenny into trouble, so he could have an excuse to beat the hell out of him regardless. He's been the most unruly and defiant of the captives, he's personally killed one of his men at the lodge, and he's taken potshots directly at Carver. He's had it out for Kenny since the beginning.
I do have.
Why do people like Kenny?
Why do people like characters?
Why do people like anything at all?
What is life?
true
that makes sense
Why do people like Jane?
What doom have I set in motion? WHAT DOOM HAVE I SET IN MOTION!? T.T
The doom of the llamapoclyse, you made it start early. The Sims team has been trying for years but you have actually started the unstoppable. We have to get out of here, before we lose everything to the llamas. XD
