Best Gaming Experience involving {Decisions = Conscquences}

What RPG game(s) have you played that made you feel that your decisions matter in the story or even the world development. It can be a singular game where your decisions affect the story of the one game, or it could be a gaming series with imported decisions from previous installments. It can even be individual games from a series that made you feel like your choices affected the present game, even if it didn't have major, if any, conscequences of the sequels.

Comments

  • The choices across Mass Effect 2 and the decisions in the final assault have an effect on which and how many of your 12 companions die, which is big-ish.

  • With the exception of the ending of Mass Effect 3, the Mass Effect series did a good job at making many of the decisions feel important. Even some of the small side quests decisions in the first ME could result in some minor conscequence by ME3.

  • Deus Ex. I had options in that game I didn't even know about for years.

  • Witcher games

  • Deus Ex and Mass Effect even though those were mentioned.

    While both eventually have the same end point, the choices that lead along the way are amazing and makes me feel invested inside the universe. Same with Telltale games.

  • Mass Effect, pretty easily.

  • the witcher 2 the whole 2nd act of the game changes based on choice

  • Crusader Kings II

    Your wife hates you, and she wants to become Spymaster? She hasn't given you any heirs, so you NEED her to like you. You decide to make her Spymaster. It should make her happy It's all good now, right?

    no

    Two months later, you smell something around the likes of manure, and then you explode because some asshole wanted you dead and your wife joined him due to her now high position in the court and dislike of you.

    sobs

    R.I.P King Alfonso the Fat. You will be missed. ;_;

  • Like Flog said above, Mass Effect 2's Suicide Mission was the most standout for me. I only lost one person my first time through (RIP Jack).

  • Mass Effect 2. /thread

  • Heavy Rain was pretty good.

  • Nothing made by Telltale, that's for certain.

    Mass Effect series I'd say, I also love Knights of the Republic! But emotionally, The Walking Dead Game Season One, it's the reason why I started playing and loving choice and story based games after all :p

  • Worth noting that about all of those characters are able to make an appearance in Mass Effect 3. Some have quite an effect on the main story as well such as Mordin, Legion and Tali.

  • Oh, Dragon Age: Origins also has great choice and consequence, albeit in the form of an epilogue for lots of them. Still, better than nothing.

  • When I first played Fallout New Vegas, I had accidentally sided with the Legion. You see, I was playing a "Justice" kinda character, so I wanted to kill Benny in a similar way to how he killed me. Unfortunately, he escaped and got caught by the Legion, so I thought going to their camp, killing Benny and then leaving would be the way to go. Nah, I ended up siding with the Legion by accident. I was gonna go for independence as well.

  • Brotherhood for life.

  • One of the best experience I had regarding decision was the ending choices in GTA 5. When the smug snake of a bad guy told Franklin to kill either Trevor or Michael. I pick the third option and said, screw it all. I am having a final stand with my three protagonists and it turned out awesome, when everyone is alive by the end. :)

  • I love this game. But not to be a bringer of bad news, but the game becomes very easy if you know how to wipe out the Military Outpost and other bandit places.

  • I agree Heavy Rain was the best beyond two souls wasn't as good but HR is under my best rpgs as mass effect 2 and TFTB

    Heavy Rain was pretty good.
