Exactly! I'm so sick of this "white culture under attack" horseshit. I grew up in an area where white nationalist groups like Conservtive Citizens Council had a strong foothold and this is the same kind of rhetoric they use.
That's a bullshit graphic. I have never heard an outcry over a person being proud of being part of a particular white cultural group like Irish, Italian, Ukrainian, etc. What you're missing is that there's no such thing as "white culture."
Except that isn't what we are saying. We aren't saying someone is a "skinhead black killer" for flying a flag, we are saying the flag is a symbol for terrible things. It can mean many things that a person is flying that flag. It could mean they are ignorant of its history, or it could mean they don't care about what other people think and feel.
As similar to what Dome gave as a hypothetical in another thread: if there were a sign that said to many white people "You are free." but when a black person passed the sign read "You should be property." would you support the right to keep the sign up?
EDIT: I shouldn't have said the right to keep the sign, as equivilent to the situation that would mean do you support the right of someone to fly the flag, which even I support. I should have said would you support the sign itself and say it is good and/or stands for freedom.
No, I preach the following
* Be proud of your race. If you are proud to be black, do it, proud to be white, asian, doesn't matter, just… more be proud. It doesn't make you a racist, nor does it make you a skinhead racist for flying a flag.
It's the assumption that flying a confederate flag makes you a skinhead black killer that gets me angry.
Are you seriously trying to debate that the KKK is not a hate group? o_O They aren't labeled a hate group because they are proud to be white and show it off, they are a labeled as a hate group because they preach that whites are superior to non-whites, and have gone to violent extremes to push their agenda. They lynched thousands of African American people, and continued to do so even into the era after the civil rights movement, as lynchings by members of the KKK occurred as late as 1981.
The memory of the lynchings is still fresh. Also, since they happened up until just around 30 years ago, a lot of the members who were in the Klan then are still in the Klan now. They might have stopped their murders, but they still preach that African American people are inferior. That belief system goes way beyond pride to be white, and is absolutely racist.
Just because the United States had less minorities before the 1960's didn't give the people in power the right to treat them like they were subhuman. The United States constitution protects the rights of everyone, it's just that sometimes the people in power unfortunately don't follow that and it takes centuries of change before the members of the Supreme Court make rulings to that effect.
A few Jewish people making anti-white quotes doesn't mean that all Jewish people are racist, or that there is a large amount of anti-white sentiment in the general culture, and simply being proud to be white is absolutely not seen by most people to be racist. There are still tons of pride celebrations for people of a white background. I love Irish, Italian, and Ukranian festivals, and so do a lot of people as the food at these always sell out. People of all races enjoy them, and no one complains because they are being held by white people. They're proud of their culture, and people of all backgrounds are happy to celebrate in that culture with them.
I just don't see why you are so in arms about a flag that has meant you no harm. But you also use a liberal website to prove your points so,… more but they are a hate group. No doubting that.
Also, just remember that the south and the world back then was primarily white. In 1960, USA 90 percent white, but now in 2010 USA was 68 percent white. That's a fact that cannot be denied. KKK is proud to be white and show it off, but like I said earlier "I'm proud to be white! = RACIST!" They do not ride around lynching black people anymore contrary to popular belief, but once they wave the flag and say they are proud to be white, game over.
That's a bullshit graphic. I have never heard an outcry over a person being proud of being part of a particular white cultural group like Irish, Italian, Ukrainian, etc. What you're missing is that there's no such thing as "white culture."
honestly i believe that guy was more insane than white supremacist, if he wasn't a white supremacist he'd have just killed random people instead
heck he had a black friend that is now going around saying he wasn't racist at all, which is probably an exaggeration but seriously, what kind of low quality white supremacist would go drinking with his black friend?
Guns don't kill people, the person squeezing the trigger does
Yet they're still allowed to have a gun because of the amendment that … moresays they are. I'm not throwing whites under the bus, I don't know what I said that made you think I am. I mentioned white supremacy because Dylann Roof was a white supremacist, and I proved my argument in the second line. I didn't mean that all people who use guns are white or white supremacists.
A 2012 study by the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention revealed that in 2010 black youths committed six times more murders, three times more rapes, 10 times more robberies and three times more assaults than did their white counterparts.
What's your point? Again, this isn't about race, only gun laws.
I just don't see why you are so in arms about a flag that has meant you no harm. But you also use a liberal website to prove your points so,… more but they are a hate group. No doubting that.

It's not the comments of pride in their race that cause people to claim people to be racist, it's their actions. It's also not just people who are preaching white pride while saying that non-whites are inferior and calling for violence against them who are labeled as racist hate groups, it goes the other way around too.
I guess I understand now, they want it down because it is a supposedly racist flag on government property. That does make sense, but people also want others to remove it from their houses on their own property. its total BS
"White culture" is such a big, vague term that it's pretty much meaningless, and it's mostly used by white supremacists. Southerners are very different from WASPs who are different from the Irish, etc. I guess you could differentiate American black culture from actual African culture too, but "black culture" tends to just mean American black culture.
i do not care who uses the term (altho you saying it's "mostly white supr" basically confirms that one image a few posts above), why do you think it does not exist?
are you saying all "blacks" tend to come from the same country and tend to "have" the same culture whereas whites are too diverse?
the chinese are different from the japanese who are different from thai/koreans, does this mean that there's no such thing as "asian/culture" ?

and of course giving preferential treatment to people is the only possible answer to this vague "white privilege" thing (who became male privilege and then cis privilege in the end)
because fuck equality, meritocracy is a white male supremacist project!

In the case of two out of three of the above, there actually are options available. It's not that there's preferential treatment, they just aren't as readily available because the interest in these aren't that high.
There is a Curves style gym just for men that aims to trim down men, but have equipment that are larger than those at Curves. It's called Cuts for Men.
There is also a heterosexual group at Waubonsee Community College, who were granted a free speech settlement to operate and hand out literature at the college.
As for the other, there haven't been any major television networks trying it, but people have went the internet television route in the past. There have been variations of White Entertainment Television listed on Shoutcast TV over the years. People with the resources to do this on over-the-air television or cable likely wouldn't want to pigeon-hole themselves in one demographic. Even BET has dropped the original full version of their channel name (all of the branding is now BET and never Black Entertainment Television), and has featured more Caucasian actors and musicians than they had prior to the purchase of the channel by Viacom, in order to have a wider audience.

i was referring to the more general mario kart statement, not the examples provided (which are pretty fucking minor)
i mean, there's nothing saying whities can't watch BET, gender segregated gyms make sense for those who don't want to go to the gym for fear of being judged by the opposite sex, i don't even know what a campus centre is (but i do know that gender segregated education is bad so there's that).
out of curiosity, how do women only gym deal with transexuals?

I guess it would depend on whether the transsexual in question openly revealed herself to be transsexual. There's never been any news reports or court cases regarding this, so it doesn't seem to be an issue. I've gone to women only gyms before and the changing rooms and showers are pretty private. You really wouldn't know someone is transsexual without her declaring it.

In general, there's no such thing as a racial culture, whether it's asian, white or black,
I'm not entirely comfortable with the term "black culture", but I can accept it as a historical quirk. I don't have the exact stats, but the vast majority of American black people are descended from slaves, and "black culture" has come to mean the culture that's cropped up around people with that heritage. White people in America are incredibly diverse, and there's basically no cultural similarity between, say, Irish people and Italian people and Eastern Europeans.
the chinese are different from the japanese who are different from thai/koreans, does this mean that there's no such thing as "asian/culture" ?
Yes. It very much bothers me when I hear people wearing the "Asian" label as a thing of pride. I went to high school with a Korean guy like that who would rightfully go bonkers if someone called him Chinese. Yet he muddied the waters by going on about how great Asians are.
how do you define what is "x race culture"?
Unfortunately, you often can't come up with cohesive definitions for this type of thing. There are too many historical oddities. Look at the Jews. They're a religion, but they're also a racial and cultural group. It doesn't make any sense, but that's the way it is.

The gym revoked her membership not because she made the complaint, but because of the way she started a witch hunt because she didn't get the response she wanted from management or upper management. She stood around the gym telling other members that they "let men in the women's locker rooms" just because she felt that another woman "looked like a man". It's this aggressive, disruptive behavior that caused her to be banned from the gym.
Nothing was ever said about the matter beyond her, and her claim was never even confirmed. It's often hard to tell someone's gender based on looks alone as there are even women who were genetically born women who have been discriminated against in bathrooms because they were deemed to "look like a man".
witch hunt? she informed other members of an undisclosed policy of the gym, wether or not she did this in a disruptive manner is something neither side has proven. and wether that first woman was transgender or not doesn't matter, as her complaint was over the possibility of it happening and the lack of transparency.
at the end of the day what appears to be the case is that just by saying you identify as a woman you can get into women's locker rooms, thank god this is not japan.

If she just handed out a flyer with the policy that would have been different, but her going around the gym telling people that they "let men in the women's locker rooms" wasn't simply letting people know about the policy, it was disruptive, and absolutely a witch hunt as it's a claim that "a man" had already been let into the women's locker rooms, which wasn't substantiated. Her behavior just opened up the door for women to get suspicious of other women in the locker room, suspecting that any woman might be a man because they "look like a man". Luckily, it didn't come to that.
That woman never did anything to her, and was just doing her own business, and the only problem that the woman had about her is that she "looked like a man". There are masculine women out there, and it's not the gym's job to enforce some kind of womanly cultural code, banning those who don't confirm to supposed cultural norms for what women should be, or to check the genitals of each one of their clientele, as both would be vastly against the rights of their members.

I feel diaspointed that, in this world, we have so many hate groups towards other humans. It kind of makes me sad.
As a outsider to race, i find it all funny when people place so much importance in it.
This is what William Tappan Thompson, the creator of that flag, had to say about a similar flag he created called the Stainless Banner:
"As a people, we are fighting to maintain the heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause. Upon a red field would stand forth our southern cross, gemmed with the stars of our confederation, all combined, preserving in beautiful contrast the red, white, and blue...Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy, and sustained by the brave hearts and strong arms of the south, it would soon take rank among the produest ensigns of nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as the white man's flag."
The Stainless Banner was simply the Confederate battle flag quartered on a white field.
Here is what the the Declaration of Secession by the state of Mississippi had to say about the cause for which they were seceding:
"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin."
Similar language can be found in nearly all the southern declarations of secession.
The Civil War was about slavery, the Confederacy was founded on a doctrine of white supremacy, and its banners were created by white supremacists and intended to represent white supremacy. Furthermore those flags were nearly forgotten for years until resurrected and raised on state houses in the South as a symbol of defiance to integration and the Civil Rights movement.
Is it really so hard to understand why the Confederate flags are viewed as symbols of racism, when the Confederacy was founded to preserve slavery and its flags have a long history dating back to the 1860s of representing white supremacy?
Much hatred. Wow such hatred. But I doubt anyone in here could have told me that or knew about it. They just automatically know the R word and use it whenever something white is mentioned. (truth)
"going around the gym telling people they let men in the women's locker room" is just your interpretation, the only thing we know from the article is that she told people daily, we don't know in which way she did this, we only have the gym's word that it was disruptive.
a witch hunt implies a hunt, if she went around groping people to check who had a dick, that would've been a witch hunt, this wasn't.
you still don't understand that woman's problem, it's not that a woman that might've been a man entered the women's locker room, it's that the gym let people that, according to her, are men in the locker room without disclosing such information in the membership contract.
nobody has to check anyone's genitals, ffs, in the US you don't even have to get surgery to get gender reassigned documents, that alone would be far less prone to exploits than "sincere, self-reported gender identity"
If she just handed out a flyer with the policy that would have been different, but her going around the gym telling people that they "let me… moren in the women's locker rooms" wasn't simply letting people know about the policy, it was disruptive, and absolutely a witch hunt as it's a claim that "a man" had already been let into the women's locker rooms, which wasn't substantiated. No, those people are brainwashed by their parents. I feel bad for them. If you actually find out about them its one guy, telling his children this.
One day they'll fall in love with someone and realize what a fool they have been.
so wait, there was a KKK rally going on just a bit away from a black pride rally? and this in the south where gun ownership is kind of a big thing?
must've been those cops' lives scariest 2 hours
I'm Mixed Race between Native American and Italian. I don't fit in with normal White People, or Native Americans. I am my own Race, and mine is the best because STONE COLD SAYS SO.YOU. Black people think i'm white, and get up in my Grill. I'm like STEP OFF SUN, and be mystified by my MYSTICAL RACE.
Our language is quite racist to write properly if someone wants to take it that far. White person simply writes "people" when referring to other white people etc but feel the need to clarify when talking about blacks by writing "black people." Yet we don't usually write "yellow people."
We like to think that we aren't racists but a lot of people are racists without even realizing it. Just because some people don't constantly say out loud what they think, they might think something racist even by accident due the circumstances. Also many people fear the unknown and might not interact much with the black people or other way around, with white people. It's easy to demonize another race you don't know that well like your own.
Blaming the flag and then censoring it doesn't really help the real issues.
Blaming the flag and then censoring it doesn't really help the real issues.
Blaming the flag makes perfect sense. In Murica what do we do more than anywhere else? WE OVER REACT. I'm surprised we didn't read a article because he played DOOM, it caused him to go on a violent killing spree.... The Flag is just the scapegoat. Anyone who doesn't get that is a sheep.
Thing about going against racism.

Trust me. If they didn't have the flag, they would blame video games in a heart beat. This isn't the world i grew up in. I remember when i was younger, i was taught integrity, and if i was wrong, to admit my faults. Society, thinks that if someone does a horrible thing, THERE HAS to be a reason, like Mario was telling me to go murder cats.
Its not my fault, MARIO MADE ME DO IT. I thought if i got my own Cat suit i could Jump Really high.

Like the KKK encourages violence against black people, the New Black Panther Party encourages violence against white people. This isn't ignored by the media either, as NBC warned people to stay away from both the KKK protest and the New Black Panther counter protest due to the racism of both groups, citing an editorial in the Columbia, South Carolina newspaper The State.

i mean, there's nothing saying whities can't watch BET, gender segregated gyms make sense for those who don't want to go to the gym for fear of being judged by the opposite sex, i don't even know what a campus centre is (but i do know that gender segregated education is bad so there's that).
out of curiosity, how do women only gym deal with transexuals?
A Campus center is just a place where people can come to hang out and get information about a subject.
Yes. It very much bothers me when I hear people wearing the "Asian" label as a thing of pride. I went to high school with a Korean guy like that who would rightfully go bonkers if someone called him Chinese. Yet he muddied the waters by going on about how great Asians are.
Unfortunately, you often can't come up with cohesive definitions for this type of thing. There are too many historical oddities. Look at the Jews. They're a religion, but they're also a racial and cultural group. It doesn't make any sense, but that's the way it is.
so basically people don't want to say they have "slave culture" so they use black instead
i recall a story about some woman getting banned from a gym because she complained about a transvestite in the women's bathrooms
Is that even relevant?
Pretty much.
witch hunt? she informed other members of an undisclosed policy of the gym, wether or not she did this in a disruptive manner is something neither side has proven. and wether that first woman was transgender or not doesn't matter, as her complaint was over the possibility of it happening and the lack of transparency.
at the end of the day what appears to be the case is that just by saying you identify as a woman you can get into women's locker rooms, thank god this is not japan.
As a outsider to race, i find it all funny when people place so much importance in it.
How can you be an outside to race? Lol
Maybe he's purple?
"Larry isn't white. He's clear."
And I'll easily forgive them if they do.
Black pride rally? For real?
ye, there was a new black panthers rally nearby
I'm Mixed Race between Native American and Italian. I don't fit in with normal White People, or Native Americans. I am my own Race, and mine is the best because STONE COLD SAYS SO.YOU. Black people think i'm white, and get up in my Grill. I'm like STEP OFF SUN, and be mystified by my MYSTICAL RACE.
"They"? You mean me? Being the only one who said it? XD
The flag supporters in general.
Thing about going against racism.
I don't think I've ever met a Flag supporter online.
Really? I see tons.
Didn't people shit their pants because those fucks that shot up Columbine played Doom?
