I cannot be offended by you unless I allow myself to be offended. You cannot be offended by me unless you allow yourself to be offended. Words only have as much power as you give them. I can go outside and tell a tree that it is a bastard, but it's likely to not care. I can tell my friend that he is a bastard and he is likely to not care. I can tell a stranger that he is a bastard, and he may care, but only because he took offense to it. I can say something that is likely to offend someone, but I cannot offend them, they do that themselves.
So yes, offense cannot be given, only taken.

Opinions are opinions, but to say women aren't funny is just wrong. Anyone who has a good relationship with their mom or sister should know that. Everyone has some kind of sense humor and can share a laugh regardless of gender.
