Would anyone like to play an old school text adventure?
I'm applying for a writing job with a game company and it requires I make a text adventure game. I'm using Quest. Anyone think they'd be up for a test drive?

I'm not so hot at text adventure games, but maybe I'll give this a shot. Are you using an online engine or a downloadable file for the game?
TITLE: The Emerald Sea
Pitch:
Johnathan Freeman was not ready for a life at sea. After failing in his duties, he has been abandoned on the shores of Queenslanding, a critical outpost in her Eternal Highness' vast oceanic empire. Determined to once again sale the seas, John must get authorization from Lord Governor Hooker to once again set sail upon the unending waves of the Emerald Ocean.
So the game contains a few major groups, and I figure I might as well discuss a bit about the game. I've just finished up all the rooms and will be adding objects and conversation trees tonight.
But essentially, Queenslanding is the second jewel of her Eternal Higness' empire, the first being the Forever City. The Kivari Empirelies far in the east and maintains diplomatic ties with the empire through its large presence in the Red District, in east Queenslanding. The Francans,an indulgent and frivolous people, maintain a large embassy in the city. This is in addition to the merchants, traders and sailors that call Queenslanding their home.
The Emerald Ocean is a deadly place to stay for extended periods. Long contact with the ocean induces madness and hallucinations, while lengthy exposure to the green mists rolling off the shore puts a person at risk of contracting the Greenrot.
Having suffered a bout of madness yourself, you've been deposited on the farthest end of the Long Pier, Queenslanding's longest dock. Your mission is simple: Get the Lord Governor to sign off on a sailor's permit so you can once again head out to sea.
Will this be the prologue like start to your story, or will it be all that we play?
Whilst I'd like to play, I'm sure I'm not going to have the time to test it before you need the test results. I did want to encourage you to have fun, though! If you're a decent writer, text adventures are great! Good luck!
How long would this story take to complete?
There's two halves to the game. The first half is getting into the governor's house. The second half is exploring the mansion and getting a signature.
No idea! We're going to find out.

Have you played Choice of the Dragon? It's free (at least on ios) and it's really cool.
I've played all the free ones and most of the demos.

Almost didn't recognize you at first (most of the time I tend to look at the avatar but not at the user), but I liked it! I need to change mine soon, never changed it since I joined the forums. :P
Yeah, sometimes it's easier to know someone from their looks than name. It really feels like a nice avatar fit for me.
Room description like so:
"You struggle to breath amidst the clouds of vapor that roll through the airs around you. Although everything shimmers crimson, it is of a deeper color here, as if warning you that the Kapra may be too strong for your senses. All around you, people lay out upon billowing cushions and piles of blankets, all the same mingling color of red. Coals burn trays full of spice, and people breathe deeply from pipes connected to winding coils. Though many are Kivari, you see more than a few imperials, their pale faces waxed over and their smiles etched as if in plastic. Many of the people do not seem to know where they are, and they babble incoherently in soft whispers, talking to the air. A few lie so still that you cannot be sure if they are deep in a Kapra stupor, or just dead. You hope it is not the latter. As your eyes adjust to the light, you notice a single man, seated far in the back. He is larger than the rest and though he is surrounded by people, all in various states of incoherence, he himself does not seem to be smoking the Kapra. His eyes glint through the clouds and he nods as you enter. "
Should be "You struggle to breathe," not "You struggle to breath".
I think you need to define your desired audience for this game. The wording is a bit complex, and non-native English speakers could have a tough time with it. It's a great description of the scene, but the player is trying to find things to interact with, so you should concentrate mostly on those, and save some of the descriptive terms for if the player says LOOK BLANKETS, for example.
