What came first? The Chicken or the Egg? One of lifes greatest mysteries.

I believe the egg came first, maybe evolving from some sort of bird like a dodo or just something that taste like chicken.
Your thoughts?

it depends of whether you are talking about a "chicken's egg" or just eggs in general.

obviously eggs were around long before chickens, so the answer is egg, but if it has to be a chicken's egg a chicken has to lay it so it would be the chicken.

however maybe you mean an egg with a chicken in it, and that is a bit more complicated because it is sort of more semantic because you would have to decide at what point it was a chicken, you could decide that it was a chicken inside the egg as soon as it was produced, and that would mean it was the chicken and the egg at the same time, but you could decide that it wasn't a chicken until it was hatched, so it would be the egg first.

  • I think the chicken somehow came first. How could an egg exist first without a chicken to lay it?

how can a chicken exist if it didnt hatch out of an egg tho

well, as i said it depends of whether you mean a chicken's egg or just eggs in general, because the thing that came before the chicken (or what we would class as a chicken) would have laid an egg with a chicken in it, but that wouldn't have been a chicken's egg, however it would be an egg.

  • I don't know...

  • The Egg, it was laid by a different type of bird.

  • if the question is whether eggs in general came first, then yes, obviously, dinosaurs laid eggs and before that ancient sea creatures and insects laid eggs

So the egg did come first?

    Dropping some wiki knowledge:
    Chicken or the Egg

Aristotle (384–322 BC) was puzzled by the idea that there could be a first bird or egg and concluded that both the bird and egg must have always existed:

If there has been a first man he must have been born without father or mother – which is repugnant to nature. For there could not have been a first egg to give a beginning to birds, or there should have been a first bird which gave a beginning to eggs; for a bird comes from an egg.

    Huh ?? My answer is...chicken.
