Rare Replay

Outside of Kameo, Viva Piñata, and Banjo Kazzoie/Tooie (the Xbox 360 ports), I've never really played a lot of Rare titles. However, Rare recently just released a collection of 30 titles for 30 dollars on Xbox One so I decided to check it out as I've heard lots of good things about Rare over the years. Some titles are more modern from Xbox or Xbox 360, whereas several titles are from Nintendo 64, NES, or even further back. I've never played games like Conker or Battletoads, so trying those for the first time has been really interesting. Has anyone else here played the collection, and if so, what do you think?

I personally recommend Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and of course.... Battletoads.

(R.C. Pro-Am 1 and 2 were really cool arcade style racers if you're interested at all in fun retro racing games)

  • 30 games for 30 dollars no matter what games they are this is an awesome bargain :'D

I've played none of these I'm getting this :)

Microsoft now owns Rare, but being a Sony console owner I am saddened I can't grab this bundle.

I haven't upgraded to the latest generation yet, but I'm definitely going to get this when I do. There's a lot of good games on there.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is great, and Battletoads is great too if you don't mind Streets of Rage style brawlers with punishing levels of difficulty.

I really liked the R.C. Pro-Am games when I was a kid, so it's great to see those on there too.

If you're the type of person that doesn't mind old graphics and old arcade style gameplay, even the games from when Rare was Ultimate Play The Game are worth checking out. Jetpac is actually quite fun. It's like Lunar Lander, with a similar setup and graphics, except you have to fuel up the ship by blasting up on platforms and you can shoot the enemies as well. It's actually pretty addicting once you get into it.

  • Jetpac is definitely fun. Some of the older games that came after Jetpac (from the Spectrum era) are a little confusing, but I'm hoping to eventually figure them out.

  • All the games are awesome. Conker's Bad Fur Day was one of the first games I've ever played and its one of the best games of all time IMO. Also loving some of the games I never got to play like Banjo, R.C Pro Am, Perfect Dark, Atic Atac (which is basically a Zelda precursor). Overall more than worth the 30 bucks

  • Just tried (and beat) Battletoads Arcade for the first time! I loved the game, but let's just say... thank goodness I had infinite continues. :P

  • Yeah I couldn't have got past the first level of the original battletoads without the rewind option lol

  • Haha, There's a reason I've mostly stuck to the Arcade version (technically a sequel/different game) so far. The NES game is just brutal.

To this day I have not beaten the hoverboard level. I've gotten close a few times, though!

  • I've never beaten Jet Force Gemini. Got extremely close, but the super awsome summer sleep over at me bf's house had to end. Could be time to finish what I started many years ago.

  • I played Grabbed by Ghoulies. Other than one of the enemies being complete bs I do recommend you play that

  • So far, I've mostly been playing Banjo 1, Conker, and Battletoads Arcade. On the side, I've also dabbled a little in the older games (mostly Jetpac, Gunfright, and Battletoads NES) and Kameo, but I'm trying to decide what to focus most of my time on after I beat Banjo 1.

So far, I'm split between Jet Force Gemni and Blast Corps. I'm holding off on Banjo Tooie until later as I've heard that one is much larger in scale, and I want to try to get through the smaller games if I can first.

Yeah, Banjo-Tooie is a whole different beast from Banjo-Kazooie. I've beaten Banjo-Kazooie, but I still have yet to beat Banjo-Tooie. It's less like Super Mario 64, when it comes to opening up levels, and there's a bit of an adventure like aspect to it (kind of like a Sonic Adventure type of unlocking of worlds, but on a grander scale).
