Rank the Penultimate Episodes

edited August 2015 in General Chat

I've never been crazy about them but with A Nest of Vipers behind us and Escape Plan Bravo on it's way it seems like all the semi finales are coming up. So let's rank them. (I'll be doing one for finales too)

1. Around Every Corner: Ok, so not my favorite episode but Telltale did put a lot of time and care into it. It had a sense of adventure as we were introduced to new characters (Molly and Vernon).

2. In Sheep's Clothing: This was okay. It wasn't a great episode I felt it lagged on way too much and moved sort of slow. The ending was pretty good though and the writing was alright.

3. Amid The Ruins: As I've said, shoving of Jane down our throats, poor deaths, lame character motives and Clem's super strength etc. However, it did give us a good taste of things to come and the ending was very suspenseful

4. A Nest of Vipers: I finished this episode in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Gared and Mira got maybe 10 minutes on screen at most, The time in Essos bringing back less than what I'd hoped, the traitor reveal and Gryff"s regenerating skin of Wolverine. We did see some wights and the ending was a good one

  • In order of preference, I'd say....

Around Every Corner > A Nest of Vipers > In Sheep's Clothing >>> Amid the Ruins

    1. Around Every Corner had some pretty tense moments and the sense of exploration was pulled off well.
    2. A Nest of Vipers, although short, was a fantastic episode in my eyes. I think it's kind of similar to Cry Wolf, in that both episodes were short but very meaty in terms of events in the story. My only shortcomings were that, given the name/key art of the episode implying this episode would be focused on King's Landing, I was disappointed that Mira had less focus placed on her story than Asher and Rodrik. Also, I think Gared's story didn't really make a lot of progress. However, Asher and Rodrik had some amazing scenes overall and there was lots of plot development for those two characters. The final choice you make is unprecedented for other choice based Telltale games, and I'm excited to see how it plays out.
    3. In Sheep's Clothing, like A Nest of Vipers, also gets more complaints that I think it deserves. I think the story would've benefitted from more elaboration in some areas, but a lot of scenes like the Pawn Shop fight with the Jersey Devil were really cool. Also, the opening with Snow White watching over Bigby had some good characterization between the two. It could've advanced the story some more, but definitely not a bad episode by any means - just a little light in plot development.
    4. Amid the Ruins was surprising to me in how it handled the determinant characters. I understand they have to eventually die, but I felt they could've used much more screen time than what they got. I also feel that Arvo really didn't add much to the story outside and was mostly there for the sake of a cliffhanger that was dropped fairly quickly in Episode 5. However, I liked that this episode seemed to have a little more interaction that the previous episodes.
    1. Around Every Corner: filler episode that drags on for WAY too long, all it does is give us Molly only for her to disappear at the end, the reveal of Crawford was disappointing after it being built up the entire episode, but our choices did have some impact, such as the who goes and who stays at the end of the episode. Overall: 8/10
    2. Amid The Ruins: probably the worst written episode of TWD series, meaningless choices, determinant character deaths, and some wasted potential, episode did have great exploration (most in Season 2 and a huge improvement over In Harms Way) that makes the episode probably the longest of the season, Jane got some great development (and up until her stunt in the final episode became one of my favorite characters in the series). Overall: 7.5/10
    3. A Nest of Vipers: Gared and Mira's sections were disappointing (especially Gared's), choice of traitor is who you didn't pick as Sentinel when it should have been based on several of your choices throughout the game as Ethan and Rodrik, and shortest episode by far when it needed to be much longer, last choice was great and Asher's scenes were the best part of the episode. Overall: 7.0/10
    4. In Sheep's Clothing: least favorite Telltale episode ever, very boring and acts as more of a filler episode to get to the finale, it's pros are the Jersey Devil and the fact that it was short. Overall: 6.0/10
  • Sam & Max episode 105 (Reality 2.0) is still one of my favorites. :)

    1. A Nest of Vipers: No idea why everyone hates episode, personaly one of my favorite episodes by Telltale
    2. Amid The Ruins: Once again, a liked the episode alot and I dont really understand the massive hate
    3. Around every corner, ONCE again, I loved it alot
    4. In Sheep's Clothing: Honestly, looking back, I like it alot more, but after waiting for a new episode only to be given 1 hour was really its only problem

    1. Around Every Corner - What started off as a slow episode got really intense and pretty damn story heavy. Tons of difficult choices, and not to mention the last 10 minutes. 9.5/10

    2. In Sheep's Clothing - an episode which receives a little too much hate. The pacing throughout the whole episode is perfect in my opinion. It manages to capture the perfect build up that a Penultimate episode should accomplish. The episode is short, but oh so satisfyingly sweet. 9.2/10

    3. Amid The Ruins - A heavily underrated episode that pulls a strong message that you can't save everyone. Yeah, the choices were pretty lame but I felt that the actual story and characters were very well made. If they just perfected the decisions it would have been my favorite episode of the Season. 9.0/10

    4. A Nest of Vipers - A very tense and exciting episodes with some pretty big issues. Gared makes literally NO progress during the 20ish minintes we have control of him. The Traitor reveal is pretty lame. I like the concept, but execution was pretty sloppy, but other then that the episode was fantastic with an ending that just stabs you right in the chest. 8.5/10

  • Around Every Corner Oh man, I was super hyped at the end of it. Choices were hard, I thought about some of them really hard. 9.5/10 - Amazing Writing.

In Sheep's Clothing It was amazing, may not of had the amount of action, but I still really liked it. 9/10

Amid the Ruins I really liked it, despite it having my choices not really matter. 8.5/10

A Nest of Vipers The tension was real, but it lost a few points when Gared got little to no progression. Traitor reveal could of been a bit cooler, like for example it could of been Lady Forrester or Elaena depending on your choices. (That would be messed up.) Though some think the writing could be improved, you cannot deny the hype was real. The finale choice was really hard, and I feel sad about both of the choices.

  • Around Every Corner: My fave episode in TWD S1

A Nest Of Vipers: I liked nearly everything about it. Only thing I hated was Mira's story, as always.

In Sheeps Clothing: Good, but not as great as the other episodes.

Amid The Ruins: Horrible. Hated it. 2/10. Worst Telltale episode of all time.

  • I'm sorry I think you meant to say Chariot of the Dogs. It's fine everybody makes that mistake. ;)
