Beards, and civilized society?
I often wondered, why are beards here in the USA still considered by many to be uncivilized?
Why are men with beards still looked upon by many as dirty, unkempt, drug users, and whole list of other unflattering labels?
And that stereotype it seems is being continuously perpetuated through movies, tv shows, and alike.
For example, on the TWD series, when Rick and his group reach that community, Rick shaved off his beard.
And in movie The Book Of Eli, at the very end, Denzel Washington shaved his beard as well.
Why all the bad rep toward men with beards?
Back in the early part of the 20th century, which was not all that long ago really, men commonly wore beards, mustaches, and alike.
Farmers, Businessmen, and even some Clergymen had beards, and they were considered socially "acceptable" if you will.
And if you think about it, why does nature give men beards anyway?
So we could scrape them off every morning with razors?
Or could it be that beards grow on our faces, because they are suppose too?
When do you think this unfair stereotype of bearded men will end?

The Hipsters disagree with you.
Styles change with the times & there will always be stereotypes, about anything. My best answer to this; don't care about that stuff. For every person that tells you to grow a beard, there'll be another telling you not to. Grow a beard if it makes you happy & wear it proudly. It's your face.
Because there are a lot of people who can't think for themselves.
Ah yes, beard-related persecution. I am familiar. I remember back in my senior year of High School I had a pretty nice beard going. It was a little unkempt, but then again so was I. People understood that. It made sense. Nobody complained. But there was this one girl in my Graphic Design class. We were great friends, sat by each other every day, had a good time. Read comics together and stuff. But she had a nasty habit of shit talking my beard. She didn't like beards. Thought they were gross and that I looked awful with it. So I decided to make a sacrifice after several weeks of that back and forth, and give up my beard.
Shaved it that weekend. Walked in Monday morning, sat down, she walked in, sat down next to me. First words out of her mouth? "I liked you better with the beard." WHY?!
True story, as ridiculous as it sounds.
I think they're gross. Just sayin. But you should do whatever makes you happy. Not cause some girl said some shit.
a combination of enlistment into the military (WWII) and efforts by male cosmetic companies have made beards less common, and if something is uncommon people develop prejudices towards it.
i don't think men should be ashamed of their natural body, and i think the prejudices are slowly going away.
i have always wanted a beard, and finally i can grow one, it is weird that it has coincided with a reasonably new fashion trend, but i am not complaining.
I thought they were the evidence?
The guy in the middle looks like a complete fucking tool.
Uh.. what? No one thinks beards are gross here, and no one thinks people with beards have problems. It's more like a fashion statement, and I think every other year it's "in", and then it's "out" again.
Being clean-shaven is a sign of being more civilised in societies because one of the things that distinguish us from other animals is our obsession with cutting and styling our hair. Animals are covered with hair, so being hairy makes you look more like an animal and less like a "human" (but it's completely human to be hairy). It's not bad, but when you want to look formal, you cut or at least trim your hair, because it makes you look more human and less animal, even though humans are animals. It's just one of those things we do to try and fool ourselves into thinking we're better than other species, along with our attempts at living in organised societies.
Everything is acceptable now if it looks stylish or at least doesn't make you look like a hobo. But here's a thing, not that many people care or better say, don't even know how they really look with it. In the pictures above the first guy look like a hobo, the other two are ok. And yep, I personally think that beards like the first one are gross too. Too long, too unkempt and looks awful, like pubic hair but on the face. Not particularry found of the second, but I can respect it I guess. Have absolutely no problem with the third, I wouldn't even call it a beard, it's more like a stubble.
And here's another thing. Many think that beard makes them look more handsome (which is often a bs) and manly. That was the point of growing it, such hair, much manliness, wow:
And this attitude is also gross.
Nature gives hair to everyone. But I don't think you would care what nature "wanted" if your girlfriend thought like that. You would just found another girlfriend.
I've never felt a certain way about em'. I don't grow a beard for 2 reasons : 1.) it doesn't really match my head well, it has red and gray in it along with brown. 2.) I've never dated a woman who likes beards and I'll take girlfriend > facial hair any day.

It doesn't matter what other people think, if you want to sport a beard than by all means do so. I personally find clean-shaven most attractive, but I wouldn't be turned off necessarily by a neatly trimmed, short beard if it fit the guy's face. Anything beyond that I don't think I would like. I don't look at guys with full-on beards and think "Nasty! What a hobo!" but I'd be lying if I said hygiene concerns didn't come to mind.
Just because nature gives you something, doesn't mean that you need to keep it. I'm still going to shave my legs despite hair growth being completely natural, and I think most men would agree on that and prefer it that way.
You can always do the reverse mullet ?? Classy on top, fun in the face ??
As a girl that loves guys with full beards, I say that if you can grow a full beard go for it.
Because they are disgusting. Have the wherewithal to get rid of the chinchilla growing on your face.
Yes... I can't grow a beard
EDIT: After further consideration I've decided the animal reference should be a hedgehog, not a chinchilla.
People with beards are either very lazy or way too obscesed about their looks. Also Ellen Page is super cute.
Some guys look awkward without a beard, so I think those people grow one to avoid that. Other than that, I agree and I definitely agree about Ellen! She's adorable!
Beards are fuckin awesome
I've had a beard for about 12 years now. No, not 12 years worth of beard. I mean I've consistently kept one for that long, kept close to the face yes, but more than stubble. Growing a beard out is probably one of the most satisfying things a man can do.
I look better with it. It compliments my jawline nicely, makes my face much more pleasingly shaped. The few times I've been 100% clean shaven I've always thought Iooked awful. My wife agrees, thankfully.
All in all, beards are the best. Fact. Beardscriminators can suck it.

i don't see it. She looks like she is twelve.
If she looks 16 years younger than her actual age now, just wait until she's 50. That'll make some women jealous. Lol
That's right, because chinchillas are soft and nice. If beards were anything like it... no one would've complained.
Beards can most certainly be soft and nice if the person with it knows how to keep it properly. The problem is a lot of people don't, and look after it only half as much as the hair on their head.
But still not as soft as chinchilla. And yep, I agree that people often just don't know how to make beards (or hair) look good, and that's the part of the problem with beards.
Ellen Page is 28?? The years have been kind...
Can you make beard hair notably less coarse?
That gif is from Juno (2007) but she looks exactly the same now. Shes probably immortal
Immortal sounds right. lol
Yes.
It's called beard conditioner and beard oil. Folks make the mistake of thinking their everyday shower products were meant for beard hair. They're not.
I like your avatar. What's it from?
Everybody tells me that, when I grow my beard, it sucks... but beards are great. The hair at the bottom of the head is as normal as the hair on top of the head.
I like having an average beard, not so long to need scissors to cut it, but enough to cover my face, you know in ancient times possessing a long beard was reputed very philosophical. The depictions of Plato and Aristotle prove it.
It's Cirilla from the Witcher games and books. That particular graphic is based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which I strongly suggest anyone and everyone play if they have not.
She reminds me a lot of Summer Glau in that regard.
If you like beards and want one, who cares what anyone else thinks? Honestly, if people feel the need to hate on the hair on someone's face, seems like they're either unsatisfied with their own beard (or lack of) or they definitely need to get their priorities straight.
Er, some beards are very fashionable at the moment
Wrong.
I disagree about what you said about men with beards.
But I do agree with you about Ellen Paige, she is cute as a button!
