Overrated TV series in your opinion

Now, there are series which most people, and for that I mean critics and public alike, seem to really appreciate, while I can't just stand them, and the most prominent among these in my mind is surely the Big Bang Theory. I mean, what's made it so popular? the critically acclaimed Sheldon Cooper, who, strictly in my opinion, is a stiff prick with trivial nerdy lines? Or the overall plot, which involves said stiff prick, a pervert, a wannabe macho, a shy exotic guy and a good looking girl who is into nerds? I mean, i think that's a really banal set up for a plot. Finally, the writing is atrocious, it can be basically summed up to this:

Leonard: Sheldon, have you seen my pen?

Sheldon: ..... No.

Laughs, laughs, laughs

Leondard: Could you help me find it?

Sheldon: ".... No"

Laughs, laughs, laughs

Leonard: Why not?

Sheldon: Because.... it's not my pen.

Laughs, laughs, laughs

viewership range: from 10 to 20 milion people per episode.

Again, this is my opinion, if you don't agree with what I said, that is entirely fine, and if you want to share your opinion about what i said or about another TV series which you think is overrated, please post a comment. If in your comments were to be spoilers for a TV series, please signal it with a warning.

  • I agree with The Big Bang Theory being overrated and I hate the laughing track. I wish that there was a comedy show where the laughing is from a live audience like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That show was and still is my favorite comedy sitcom show. It was funny when it was funny. It was serious when it was serious. It was heartwarming when it was heartwarming. Still, although I don't watch the Big Bang Theory anymore, I still have good memories of watching the show when it was new.

  • i never watched it so i can't say.

I guess mine would have to be TWD. Honestly how many more TV shows do we need about zombies? They should at least make it cool or funny. I am sick of drama.

Carlton dancing is one of the fondest memories I have of my childhood. That was a really good show, and it surprisingly brought closure to another comedy sitcom which i really liked and whose ending really disappointed me.

  • Which one if you don't mind me asking?

  • The Jeffersons. Remember that George Jefferson ultimately bought the Banks property?

  • Carlton Banks was the shit.

IMO he was more talented than Will Smith.

  • Too bad that The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was his first and last significant show in his career.

  • The Vampire Diaries. I enjoyed series 1 but gave up half way through 3 I don't understand how it has such a dedicated following!

Homeland. Again got poor after season 2 I think they're making a fourth!

Gotham. Kept me interested until the mid season break, came back to a double episode on its return and just couldn't get through it.

On the flip side currently watching Suits which is one of my favourite series of all time, and looking forward to Heroes Reborn (though in have my doubts about it)!

  • game of thrones.

most overrated tv series in existence

    i couldn't even survive through the first 20 minutes of s1 ep1 ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • 20 minutes is nowhere near enough time to make a judgement on it! It's a bit weird at first with the monsters you see in the intro and they never have any context until season 2 at the earliest so I'd give it another go... unless it's the language/gore etc you didn't like.

The Wire. it was the most boring thing I've ever had the displeasure of watching

  • Just to keep you posted, Homeland has already made a fourth season, they're making a fifth.

  • Wow, really? I loved it because it was a really blunt and realistic show, the start of each season is a bit slow, but I always found it intriguing at the end.

  • Ha I knew someone would say GOT just to be that guy. I would say True Detective. That's gotta be one of the most boring shows I ever watched. Also Empire. I really don't get why people love it.

  • I think it was more about boredom.

  • Do you watch it? Did it get better after season 3s ending?

  • I totally agree on Empire, there's nothing special about it.

  • I would say a lot better, no more American soil, and a real spy-thriller plot set in Pakistan.

  • Well i never cared about GOT that much

  • Suits.... Omg I can't bear that show. I gave it a few episodes, like I do with all shows, but it's just terrible.

  • Bob's Burgers and Portlandia. Didn't even crack a smile with either of those shows.

  • The Walking Dead, even though I love it. It's overrated.

  • (Fear) The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, basically every 'major' TV show is a bit overrated, but it doesn't make them bad.

I, for one, like The Big Bang Theory not for its writing or 'story', but for its silliness. I think it is horribly overrated and the laugh track is annoying as all hell, but y'know, at the end of the day I still get many laughs out of it. So I guess you're right about the writing and all that, but it's my kind of humor, and I appreciate it for that (even though it lacks basically everything but silliness).

  • You should watch it through, I didn't like the first couple episodes as much but it got really amazing really quick.

  • Every police drama ever.

  • Breaking Bad

  • When I finished S1 EP1 I thought:

''That's it.......? That's the critically acclaimed TV show that everyone is talking about?''

The first episodes are reallyyyyy slow, but after some episodes I started loving it. You should give it another try.

Apparently it broke viewing records, but I barely sat through an episode of it.

  • Definitely The Big Bang Theory.

I actually did like the first couple seasons of the show. Everything after was just dull humor. All of the characters have changed for the worse as the show progressed. I don't remember much else, but all I know is that Sheldon is an asshole.

  • The Walking Dead. Zombies are over done and that show has some major plot armour.

  • The Walking Dead.

  • Why everytime you show up you always mention plot armour? Anyway, I wouldn't say that it is that much overrated for the simple fact that last time TWD won anything at all was back in 2012.

The Walking Dead. Zombies are over done and that show has some major plot armour.

  • Personal baggage can dictate much of what we consider overrated. I don't watch Big Bang Theory regularly, but when I do I find myself laughing at all the silly jokes. Character development, plot, etc., non-existent on the show. You could have puppets in place of the actors and the show wouldn't change much--but the jokes themselves are still funny...to me, at least.

I gotta give Mad Men another chance, as I only got through half of the first season before getting bored. But so many people have told me how great it got later that I'm curious!

Breaking Bad started off pretty good in the first few seasons, but by season three the binge addiction finally took hold and the show continued to surprise on so many levels.

Game of Thrones is an abusive relationship...watching boring or painful episodes waiting for the one or two ASS-KICKERS that show up each season!
