I'm freaking out about the random Q&A. I don't have any good questions to ask him!

  • Excellent. I can't wait to play Citizen Brown and flirt with Jennifer. Best episode IMO.

  • I decided to ask him about the Super Show, but I think the Q&A is over now.

  • Nice. I really hope some of the other older games get the same treatment (Jurassic Park and Tales from Monkey Island).

  • Will the PC be seeing either a patch or a paid upgrade with the remastered content?

  • New blog post has some info:

Great Scott! This year marks the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, one of the most beloved movies of all time. To celebrate the occasion, Telltale Games is releasing Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition!

Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition features textures that take full advantage of current-generation console capabilities, and updated voice work from Biff Tannen's original movie actor, Tom Wilson. This edition also includes in-game access to new, exclusive content: a behind the scenes video featuring interviews with movie trilogy co-writer and producer Bob Gale, original movie cast member Tom Wilson, members of the development team, and AJ LoCascio - the voice of young Marty McFly.

This special remastered edition will be available digitally worldwide and at retail in North America on Tuesday, October 13th, and available at retail in Europe on Friday, October 16th. Digital and retail platforms in both regions will include PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

In Back to the Future: The Game, six months after the events of Back to the Future Part III, the DeLorean Time Machine mysteriously returns to Hill Valley - driverless! Now, Marty must go back to 1931 to recruit the help of a reluctant teenage Emmett Brown in order to save 1985's Doc from certain death. Can they repair the rifts of the past without accidentally erasing the future?

Next up - more news on the Minecraft: Story Mode premiere, and finales for Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones! Stay tuned...

  • I don't think so, there's no mention of the PC anywhere.

  • So I haven't watched a back to the future film before (I know). Is this game easy to get into without watching them?

  • From what I have seen from the gameplays, I'd say that there are a lot of reference to the old movies. But it is not necessary to understand the plot of this game.

But unlike the Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and the other recent Telltale Games. This game is a true adventure game. There are still dialogue option, but it is not what drives the game. Most of the time, you will be solving puzzles, collecting items and so forth.

  • You'll miss tons of references, but you should be able to get into the relatively easily.

  • There's a lot of references to the films, but the story is completely new, so it shouldn't be too hard to get into it without watching the films.

Basically all you need to know is what's said in the blog. Six months has passed since Marty last saw Doc or the DeLorean time machine. The game's story explains the rest pretty well.

Would rather just wait for The Walking dead dlc.

    Thread: Questions about BTTF

Hi. Now that I've just heard about remaster of BTTF I think I will purchase it since I'm a fan of TTG's games. But first I'd like to read your opinions about this game. What about the plot, what about gameplay? Are there any choices to pick like in TWD, TWAU etc. or is it completely linear? Tell me everything you think and everything you know. Every comment counts!

Oh and one more important question - do I need to watch movies to understand the whole game?

  • Plot is pretty sound, very interesting, especially in Episode 3. Lots of time line stuff. The gameplay is very much like a classic adventure game, and you can't die in game. There are dialogue choices, but that's about it and doesn't make a big difference. One I think is telling the people your name in the past and throughout the game you are called that.

And you'll miss a tons of references if you don't but you probably could still follow it.

  • If I wanted a crash course in BTTF can I watch the third film and be up to date, or is it a definite trilogy? I'm bad at watching old films that I have no nostalgia attached!

The game will be kind of like Walking Dead: Season 1 in terms of puzzles. This is one of Telltale's earlier attempts at a cinematic title, so they use puzzles from their earlier titles instead of the choice system in Walking Dead. However, the puzzles are pretty easy and they have a hint system - like I said, this was one of Telltale's first attempts at a mostly cinematic title instead of a puzzle game like their earlier work.

If you liked the amount of player exploration, hub areas, and puzzles in Walking Dead: Season 1, you will very likely feel comfortable with Back to the Future. However, the focus of this game is puzzles - not choice making or story tailoring.

Back to the Future has puzzles, but they are easy puzzles and there is a hint system. I'd kind of say it's a little similar to Walking Dead: Season 1 in terms of player interaction/hub areas/puzzles/etc, except there is a little more to do in this game and you actually have to select inventory items instead of having the game pick them for you when looking around in a hub area. There will be more walking around and exploration (but the game's story still guides you like in modern Telltale games), and there aren't QTEs either.

Back to the Future was made when Telltale was transitioning from puzzle games to cinematic games, so Telltale doesn't yet have the choice system from Walking Dead, but the story and cinematic presentation in this game are similar to something you'd see in a modern Telltale game. You yourself don't make player choices that tailor the plot in the game, but story wise, it's about the ethical implications of time traveling and it still focuses very much on character relationships and moral choices (albeit in a light hearted way).

  • How many episodes and what's the price?

  • 5 episodes, not sure about the price, might be the same $25 for all of them or they might add $5 because it's a remaster with bonus content.

Please Telltale, release a Sam and Max trilogy collection. I'd love you even more.

That being said it's neat that I can finally play this so called "underrated gem" now.

How come they planned to release a game on next gen consoles which was released 5 five years ago?

  • They wanted to release the game again for the movie's 30th Anniversary. Back to the Future was Telltale's most successful title prior to Walking Dead, and it's big enough of a license to where they could release it again for Telltale's modern audience. It's also possible they might be testing the waters to see how Telltale's modern audience responds to remastered games and/or games with more interactivity than the modern choice based games.

  • Why is there. 360 version, but no PS3?

  • I assume because it had never been released on 360 before. These seem to be only for platforms it hasn't been on yet.

Nothing has been announced, but if Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition sells well, it's certainly possible they'll go back and remaster some of their other older games for modern platforms.

  • This is a great game, really enjoyed it. Good to see that its being revived.

  • Neat, haven't played the original. Will buy.

  • What are the chances of a remastered or even re-recorded musical score with a live orchestra? (I know, pretty slim. Just blue-skying here.) And any chance we'll see a BTTF season 2?
