Tom Cruise doesn't get the appreciation he deserves if you ask me. Don't know why people hate him. As an actor at least.
People judge his career based on his outside life also. Personally, I think he's a nut job outside of acting, but as an actor, he is excellent.

Oh no doubt Cruise is nutty lol. That whole Scientology shit. And my friend's dad actually works for a company that cleans houses for famous people. He saw Tom Cruise one day and realized how much of a douche he was.
But yes, as an actor Cruise is amazing.

In addition to most of ChuckTheLizard's list, I'd have to say I'd add Bae Doona, whenever she's in a movie I at least read the synopsis, if not go see it. For US audiences, she does a lot of work with the Wachowski's, including Cloud Atlas and now Sense 8.
Yoo Jun Sang is another actor who does a lot of films I like. I'm not sure if he's debuted in the US though.

Fonda sure was a bastard in Once Upon a Time in the West.
Well you have to remember where Gibson grew up.
He grew up in a very redneck area in upstate New York.
And it was a very racist area.
So it is impossible for him to have grown up in that environment, and not have it affect him.
I have a friend who is around Gibson's age, who grew up not to far from that area, and he helped to give me some insight into that time, and place.
Plus you have to remember that civil rights were still not really firmly established back then.
We're talking about the sixties and seventies!
Even today, racism is still very big issue.
Every time a black man commits a crime, and then is gunned down by a white police officer in self-defense, people automatically demonize the police officer because he was doing his duty.
And then often times they try to say because the suspect was black is the reason he got shot.
That in itself is racism.
It's racism in reverse!
In the politically correct environment that we live in, if you do not go along with whatever is the conventional wisdom, you are automatically branded with all sorts of cruel and demeaning labels and alike.
If you dare to have your own opinion any longer, to many that is deemed as unacceptable.
For example, since we are all supposed to be equals, if you feel that White-pride is just as valid as Black-pride, you will often get called a racist!
Or, if you feel that Gay rights should be given no greater consideration than your rights or mine, you'll often get branded as a homophobe.
To elevate the importance of anyone one particular group, over that of another, is NOT equality.
Rather, it is in fact showing favoritism.
If you talk about race, it doesn't make you a racist.
If you see distinction between the genders, it doesn't make you sexist.
If you feel a particular disdain for a particular denomination, or a particular disdain toward a particular religion, it doesn't make you anti-religious.
If you accept homosexuality but don't celebrate it, it doesn't make you homophobic.

Interestingly, the Church of Scientology has been under scrutiny for quite some time.
And when Katie Holmes divorced Tom Cruise, the Church became quite concerned that she would possibly leak information regarding their organization.
There has long been a veil of secrets that have surrounded that place.
And that group seems to be paranoid about anyone finding out anything about their inner-workings.

I define accept as being okay with it in society, but personally, I take no part in it and couldn't care less about it. They do their thing.
Of course, there's no need to 'take part in it'. I was just asking Kenny/Lee about that cause often I see people misusing the word accept. I've seen some people saying basically something like ''I don't beat a gay couple when I see them holding hands in public, therefore I accept them''. In my opinion, acceptance goes beyond that. Not celebrating homosexuality doesn't make someone a homophobe or a bigot, but I can't say the same about forcing their on beliefs on other people (such as being against same sex couples having the right to marry) and treating them differently because of their sexuality.
