Thoughts on this? I haven't seen the film but am interested to hear what people think.

Reactionaries gonna react.
[needlessly hostile statement redacted.]
...Was it ever? Urgh.
Original Trilogy pretty much was , except for the token traitorous black guy. But it would seem the tolerance level these days is making the neckbeards uncomfortable.
Who cares if they're minorities, I thought the actors did just fine. The propoganda label is just ridiculous.
Ugh I saw that article, when anyone gets to the point where they complain about a film/show/game due to the people in it or message I just get irritated. The movie was good.
Always
Oh, that must be horrible. Also, "token" would imply that it happened pretty much all the time.
Urgh.
Nolan's third Batman was capitalist propaganda film and I didn't protest. Latest hero movies are so bad I just do not care anymore.
nah, it was just fine, but it's a product of its time and times change. No reason to spite the director for diversifying the cast, since the actors obviously did pretty good job.
in this context, it does not. Token just means the inconsequential inclusion of a minority.
I dont see how it was in that case? The guy wasnt some afterthought character with a minor role.
Been a decade since I've Empire Strikes Back, you'd probably know better than me. I don't remember him being that important. Regardless, IIRC he was the only black character in Star Wars until Mace Windu came along.
What's funny is that the Original Trilogy had really progressive gender-politics and as far as I know, people aren't calling that "SJW propaganda".
I applaud JJ Abrams for making the Star Wars universe more like actual real life: i.e. filled with women and minorities. Who knew? But yeah, it seems these days people are just looking for things to be outraged by.
I haven't seen the movie yet, having never seen any Star Wars film, and so not having much interest, but Ive heard so many good things about it, that I am actually planning to. When things die down a little, though. I hate crowded theaters.
Giving the name Thor to a woman in the marvel comics or Jimmy Olsen being a black guy in super girl is social justice.
A woman or a black guy that plays a character that have always been a woman or a black guy is not social justice. So this is not social justice, they chose the actors they felt where the most suitable for the job.
They made Thor a woman...? Wow, that's some ham-handed shit right there. Who's idea was that??
They made up some stupid shit that he is no longer worthy, and gave the hammer and the name to Jane Foster.
Title just clickbait imo in the article to attract attention, the cast did a fantastic job amazing choices and the film was great I didn't notice any agenda in this film and find all this nonsense and to stupid to even debate that article
Well, for the Thor thing, it's not like they made the character into Thor Odinsdaughter. They just had a different character pick up the hammer and gain his powers. They had already been done this in the 80's with some weird alien horse...thing. It being picked up by (gasp) a woman 30+ years later isn't really that groundbreaking. The black Jimmy Olsen thing is a bit more "hey, let's make this established character black for no reason," but...it's Jimmy Olsen...in Supergirl...on network TV. Who cares?
The name Thor is not a title it is a name, and they gave it to her. That is what annoys me the most. And i do not watch super girl it is a shit show. I just gave the Jimmy thing as an example of social justice. Beta Ray Bill never took the name, and Thor was still worthy. It is possible i am wrong about Bill because i have never read the comic.
Meh, if somebody runs down the street naked screaming the n-word, slathered in their own feces and you 'gee, they probably shouldn't do that,' you'll get a swarm of MRAs saying you're an SJW trying to limit freedom of speech.
What are you talking about? Star Wars VII clearly had an agenda - make bank. (And possibly save the franchise from the prequels... all so they can make more bank)
Actually it's not clickbait as far as I can tell. There's a real social-political movement behind this kind of hogwash.
Eh, it's become something akin to "Batman" at this point. Yes, in a sense, Bruce Wayne will always be Batman. That's the name he gave himself and defined who he was to a greater extent than even his actual name. But in another sense, Batman is the name of the night-cloaked guardian of Gotham and an entity beyond a single mortal man. When Thor no longer becomes worthy of wielding the powers of Thor, what good is that name, really?
They made Thor unworthy only so they could make a woman into a superhero. Instead of making a new superhero, and the reason they did that is because they wanted her to ride on the fame of the real Thor.
But the name Thor has nothing to do with the hammer, he was Thor Before he became the god of thunder. A Better example of what you said, in my opinion. Would be when Bucky and later Sam Wilson became captain america. Since that for me is a title or rank.
The idea of Thor being unworthy of wielding his hammer and powers have been explored throughout the run of his comics. This is the first time they've gone this far with it, but it's hardly a new idea.
And while originally, the name "Thor" and his worthiness in wielding his hammer/powers were separate, over time, it became inextricably linked to who he was. And now because the hammer no longer recognizes him as being worthy of "Thor", he feels that he is no longer deserving of that name. I find it to be an interesting development for his character, regardless of the gender of the person who takes on his name.
true
And also true but I try to not respect it by calling this clickbait I guess
...
You probably know more about Thor`s story than me, because i have not read that many comics. But i still think it is stupid. Especially since they have not even told us why he is unworthy.
It is also too much of a coincidence that he loses his Powers and it goes to a woman, considering the sjw climate we live in today. In my opinion. And i would not have liked it if his Powers Went to a man either.
...
What's your opinion?
Meh, I just hope the movie is good! I'm all for inclusiveness so long as it isn't forced. Changing a characters set characteristics to be more inclusive, for instance. Good characters are good characters. I'll be seeing it this weekend, I hope!
As for the "reactionaries" (to the reactionaries) calling the original films racist, Aryan hug boxes or whatnot, please, get off your high horse
...
So guys how do we get clicks on our site that no one has ever heard of, ideas?
Well we could take the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed new Star Wars film and nit pick?
Get on it.
XD I can't argue that but still great imo :P
I've not read any of it but from what I've heard it has been well received!
It does not change the fact that it is social justice in my opinion. Would it have happend if it was not for sjw climate today, i at least do not think so.
You may be right! But these properties are so old that their race, sex, orientation etc will always be up for re-imagining. I agree that I think canon Thor should be as originally created, and this is where my comic book knowledge will no doubt let me down, but isn't there many different story arcs in the comics? It's difficult to create a new super hero as the market is soooo saturated, so why not take an existing one and tinker, especially if it is set during one of many alternate arcs (I may be making stuff up here please let me know!).
I will be very honest and admit that i have not read that many comics. I do not have a comic store to go to in my country, most of the comics i have read have been on youtube channels. But it is true that Thor´s hammer have been used by others. But as far as i know it has not even been revealed why he is unworthy. And i only read about characters i like or if it is a really cool story arc.
If you want a specific super hero then make that super hero, don't ruin an already established character in order to fit whatever bullshit agenda is popular this week.
I think the author needs to loosen the chin straps on his tinfoil hat.
I feel like we could be very good friends.
