  • It's apparently buggy on the PC version, can anyone confirm this?

It runs fine for be apart from one small bug where a character didn't move when they where supposed to but reloading the save fixed it.

  • Really enjoying the game so far, I'm a little over an hour into it and it's really good. Looking to have the first part up on YouTube in a couple of hours.

I just finished the game and i really enjoyed it, i am going to have to do another playthough as i know i missed a few things and without spoiling too much they have some statistics at the end similar to Telltale which is interesting.

I really enjoyed the story, theming and characters and i am looking forward to seeing what Skybound will help Nightschool with in the future.

  • Wow, I have just completed the game and I absolutely loved every part of it. The story and the dialogues are incredibly well written, and the walk-and-talk mechanic feels very fresh and never gets repetitive. I recommend it to anyone who likes story heavy games.

  • Gamespot gave it an 8/10

    The Good:

Dialogue flows beautifully and includes very humorous banter

Story is unpredictable and unravels subtly

Excellent soundtrack draped all in a 1980s teen-flick aesthetic

Player choice consistently has deep impact on the story

The Bad: No rewind feature to isolate individual choices on repeated playthroughs

    Destructoid gave it 9/10

Entrancing - It's like magic, guys. Time disappears when this game and I are together, and I never want it to end. I'm not sure if this is a love that will last forever, but if it is, you'll get no complaints from me.

  • Just finished the game and absolutely loved it, from the characters, to the writing, to the story, everything was great. These guys did a good job with this game and it kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much throughout. Hopefully we'll be seeing more from these guys.

  • So, how do you save Michael exactly? I just saw someone play the game and Michael was alive in their game, how do you get that, do you just tell him not to go away or something like that? Also, another quick question, are we always stuck in the infinite time loop, did everyone get that?

  • I can't seem to find it on the xbox store. It's available in Australia right?

  • OzzyUKOzzyUK Moderator

They forgot to get it rated by the Australian and New Zealand rating boards so it won't released on the Xbox until the ratings have been approved.

  • Wish they released a demo. I'm hesitant to buy it because of the art style/ graphic choice.

  • Well that's just a tad irritating. Thanks for letting me know. :)

  • Looks like the game uses the Unity engine.

I can kinda see what you mean. Not a huge fan of the zoomed out look.

  • So the biggest thing stopping me from purchasing the game right now would be the length. The developers said anywhere between 7-9 hours, but actually reviews from critics and people on steam have been saying 4-5 hours. Also a lot of reviews have been saying that the final act is very rushed. Can I get some people's insight on the final hour-ish (without spoiling anything of course) and if it was worth the 20 dollar purchase.

  • Not sure if I should post it here, but I have managed to extract Alex and Clarrisa from the game. The textures are corrupted though (and are not in the right size).
Alex has 6k Polys, and 4k verts.

  • Alex she is so awesome, because I'm Alex :P suck a great game!

I completed the game today. This is the ending I got: Alex and Jonas are good friends, Nona and Ren are together, and Michael is alive with Clarissa. I like this ending :) btw is there a best ending?

  • I'm really sick of cool games coming out and I have to wait for who knows how long because it hasn't been rated in my country yet.

Sorry for the rant but it's something that's annoyed me for a while now.

It just... doesn't suit me, I can't feel the impact of literally everything, making it 3rd person similar to telltale, and so on would make it better than Telltale, actually.

Edit: I got bored in the first ten minutes into the game.

  • I try to actually get some of those games finished I have bought lately or otherwise I end up getting cashfree because of buying all those games.

  • By what I've seen this game seems pretty boring, a story about ant sized characters (supposedly teenagers) that sounds like grown-ups in their 30s that are acting really annoying.

  • So, is Alex stuck in an infinite time loop in the ending or what exactly happened then? Also, if you use the tape player in the bomb shelter, does it change anything in the ending? What was the point of it? I'm kinda confused right now..

  • Using the tape player causes Jonas to get sucked into some sort of vortex because he thinks he hears his dead mother's voice, but he does show up again when Alex wakes up on the boat.

  • Finally finished it and I gotta say I enjoyed it quite a bit. if you like a good story and some sharp writing Oxenfree is just for you. A few complaints I have would be that the dialogue tree isn't very robust. Character's get cut off VERY frequently and the only way to hear a full conversation is risking missing the dialogue option or turning on subtitles and quickly skimming to the end of the sentence. Also Alex's reactions and majority of the characters reactions are way too calm at times. There were several scenes were I would be absolute freaked out by what's happening, but Alex, Jonas or who ever would go "wow that's a bit weird, huh". I understand if it's just in Alex's nature to handle things calmly, but if I'm given a dialogue option like "NO!", I expect a freaked out shout and not a "oh man". Now this is only a problem a few times in the game and the scene's that do have the characters freak out or break down are really well done. Particularly a scene near the middle involving Alex confronting Clarissa. I know I may seem to be talking shit, but these were just some things I wanted to get off my mind.

  • I really liked this game.

It also had that classic TTG's "is it a cliffhanger????" type thing at the end. Wish it was longer to be honest...and I think that could hold some people back from getting it.

  • Does it change the ending at all? Like is it explained what actually happened to Jonas?

  • Agreed.

Doesn't change the ending. You do get a quick summary from Jonas about what happened to him, but I can't remember exactly what he says, but that's it.

  • Oh, alright then, I'll check it out later. Thanks for explaining what happens btw :)

  • I did lose Jonas in the cave, which was slightly unsettling. He was still talking to me, but his avatar was stuck on a rock face off screen. Other than that, no problems.

  • So far I think the graphics are well suited to the suspense/horror nature of the story. It's like playing an episode of the x-files, and the stylized nature of the island at night means there are moments where you aren't quite sure what you're seeing until the characters start freaking out.

Wish they released a demo. I'm hesitant to buy it because of the art style/ graphic choice.

  • Given they are an indie and this is their first ever game, I think the graphics are well suited to what they are trying to accomplish. A combination of timed responses and an environment that suggests without clearly defining the danger out in the woods makes for some excellent x-files type suspense.

I just finished a 'chapter' and didn't realize until the scene transition that I'd been holding my breath the whole time.

  • So far I am loving this, although I've got to say it forces your undivided attention in a way I would not have expected from a dev with a three year old at home :P

Speaking of, does anyone know if any of the devs are from Maine? Because there are references that I can't believe someone who hasn't lived there would make.

  • I want to get it, I really do. Some early gameplay videos look good and the trailers are full of hype! But, I am kind of worrying about the price, I've read it isn't too long a game and 20 bucks is just reaching the limit. Should I buy it for the full price or wait for some small sale?

There are just so many games coming out or have come out, but I don't have enough money to buy them. I have a long list of backlog games. :(

  • It's up to you, but I have no regrets. Because it is telltale-esque, there is a lot of replay value. I am happy with the ending I got but I want to go back and try other options now.

  • He gets stuck in a memory from before his mom died, similar to Alex and Michael.

Considering he makes it out again, I don't regret that. It seems a kindness.
