  • Considering Michael isn't always alive, it sounds like you got it.

So the Alex in the mirror...is that another player? Has anyone replayed and seen if the IDs change like Journey?

  • Ok thanks :)

  • The infinite loop theory?

    original timeline vs parallel timeline...
    Memory lost...

    MEMORY

I'll reply later about meaning of ending and the teory of "neverending endings"

  • It's a great game. I finished it in less than 5 hours, but most people can finish it in roughly 4. 20 bucks is a bit steep, but at least imo I thought the story and dialogue was well worth the purchase. If your feeling a bit iffy it might be best to wait for a sale.

I want to get it, I really do. Some early gameplay videos look good and the trailers are full of hype! But, I am kind of worrying about the

  • Spoiler tag please (not everyone here has played it), but I'm curious about your theory of the ending.

  • It is! It's very cool! The end credits actually has the ghosts of Alex in the credits (their steam id's).

  • I have seen on the Steam forums that getting all the anomalies and letters may change the options that are open at the end. Anybody know if that's the case?

Also, some people describe the scenes being the same but the animations of them being slightly different if you are playing through a second time. Certainly having a "Start Over" button inside the options menu implies there is a save file not readily visible to the user.

And then there is this strangeness that may or may not be connected to the soundtrack composer urging a close listen over at bandcamp

  • I found all letters and anomalies and got one of the known-about endings so not certain that one's true..

  • Yeah, i wondered about that, since none of the users claiming this elaborated.

  • There is a reference in game to a number "that will allow you to call out", but I have no idea. Also, I have no idea what to make of the clue they found.

  • It was neat/confusing because the voice seemed benevolent.

I originally thought it was Anna, and then I got to the bit where I was standing in front of the mirror with my steamID.

  • Geek Remix

Another user on Steam created a video showing hidden video and audio elements in the game, and claims to have contacted the devs for clarification on some of her theories.

Right? I am hoping that these clues are leading toward some kind of closure, because to leave Anna and the Kanaloa the way they are currently seems so sad.

But wow, I would have never thought to look for morse code in the soundtrack if Geek Remix hadn't researched it. I was thinking more along the lines of the embedded dialogue in some of the tracks, but I'd seen others post that it was just the audio from some of the anomalies.

  • Maybe, if what she said about the devs is right and the message will change every couple of weeks, we'll slowly get a message .starting with 'Maggie'?

    Maybe Maggie is alex or..something...

  • I am personally hoping the "Is. Leave. Possible?" moment with the entity is a hint that you can actually free them, and that Alex reminds them of Anna because Anna was working on it, too. If Geek Remix is right, they are actually an experiment gone awry, and maybe you will be able to continue Anna's work.

  • Nightschool is having a fanart contest that closes Monday:

Hey everybody. We’ve been super appreciative and inspired by all the artwork made by you guys and gals over the last few weeks, so we decided to have a contest to better showcase some of it! The contest is to create an Oxenfree Movie Poster in any creative or weird way you want. We’ll be picking our two favorites early next week. The winner will get a Steam (PC and Mac) download code for our game Oxenfree along with the official soundtrack, and the runner-up will receive the soundtrack!

To participate, upload your art to your Tumblr using #OxenfreeFanArtContest. The submission period starts now, and ends on Monday, February 8th 11:59PM PST. You can submit as many pieces as you like! The winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 10th.

    Good luck!

So I did get curious enough I called the number myself. You get a very distorted excerpt of Beacon Beach, but I think that's intentional since it lets you hear the morse code very clearly in comparison to all other audio in the song.

There is also now a twitter for the phone number whose avatar is a still from the game.
