My Co-workers and I make that joke all the time. Every time someone was sick we'd claim they had Ebola. Now we just say Zika... doesn't sound as cool but meh.
This isn't exactly my forte ... I didn't even know the Zika Virus existed until seeing this thread. And I don't have cable and don't keep up well on the news ...
But because there's only a 1 in 5 chance for those infected to become ill, perhaps there's a biological similarity to victims that have gotten sick/died that's made them more suspectible to the negative effects?
People will die, people will panic, I'll eat my pizza.
An interesting note, though this is just hearsay, is that the WHO told pregnant wo… moremen to abort their fetuses.
Personally I don't much care. I think any responsible and informed person in an infected area will wait to have children, but as far as being scared of the virus? Na.
It's a freaky thought knowing that all it takes is one disease/virus to wipe out the entirety of the human race. It's very plausible. I doubt the Zika virus will be the one, but so be it. Life moves on.
No virus will wipe out humanity. There are always people who are immune enough to survive virus. I Mean Ebola is only a specific % fatal. Even though there is no cure for it, most people who get Ebola do survive it, but a large % die from it still. A person's natural immunity is our best defense, if you have a low natural immunity or a very bad diet you're more likely to die from such a disease. Worse yet even something as simple as the PH level of the water you drink.. most American's suffer from drinking water that is 4-5 ph level, when you need around 7.5 ph level to have a healthy immune system, otherwise your blood cells including white blood cells do not function properly. Issue is even most bottled water is around 4-5 ph so buying bottled water doesn't help unless you know what brands are good for you. Issue is, acid rain has contributed heavily toward decreasing the ph level of our drinking water, the human body evolved to function with a 7.5 ph level, but most drinking water today is very acidic, too acidic. Something simple like a filter will not fix that either.

There is no guarantee that certain people are immune to viruses. Ebola is simply not the disease to kill off the planet. Ebola is not the same as every virus.
I said it's 'plausible', never said it will happen.

I'm not trying to cause any panic or anything. Just want to bring people aware of the situation and would like to discuss this topic.
… more"The virus was isolated for the first time in 1947 in the Zika forest in Uganda"
(for those that didnt know, this virus existed before and was known to be "isolated" or "erradicated". It caused a epidemic before.)
Makes me wonder...
How did it spread?
Is it natural? Or did humankind caused this?
With all these recently known symptoms and transmission mutations... one thing is sure - the disease is evolving rapidly.
According to news articles, the mosquitoes species (Aedes) also transmitt diseases like dengue and others. Mankind has had problems with these species for "centuries" and only "succeeded" in the 20th century. But they discontinued the program because the problem seemed to be gone (erradicated). Yet, a decade later, the species returned.

Well at least Zika doesn't kill you, it just fucks you up a few weeks and then its gone, the only threat is to women who are pregnant or planning to be as the kid will be effected during and after infection.
The scary thing about zika is that we don't really know much about it. It has been linked to cause microcephaly & Guillain-Barré syndrom. And for those that didn't know, virusses are prone to mutation. They mutate all the time, often bad.
Scientists are having a hard time developing a cure. This sounds like a complex virus.
What we do know:
Sexual transmission
Mosquito transmission
Saliva transmission
Symptoms for about a week, where the virus is visible in the blood, after the symptoms are gone, the virus hides, but remains in the patient.

A opinion from the developer & CEO of "Plague Inc.":

Genophage from Mass Effect. Considerably reduce mortality of children.
Holy hell I'm so drunk I was imagining the band The Who telling women to abort their fetuses.

Well, If an outbreak happens here, I know where I am going (Tasmania).

Good on you for continually updating this.
Genophage!?!! You mean genocide! :P

No problem. People should be aware.

Well then my direct response to such a virus is in my profile pic: "Absolutely Barbaric"

I know I should probably be worried or at least sympathetic but I can't seem to muster a single fuck
Less it spreads to Europe I don't think I can either.
Same I feel sort of bad though
WE. NEED. TO. BUILD. A. WALL!
ISIS, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Zika. How could the world possibly be any more fucked up than it already is?!
I'm curious to know what wall you have in mind.
A wall so high and air tight that no virus can pass through it! Of course funded by zika victims and mosquites
I know right? Hopefully a civil war won't happen.
I'm glad that virus isn't in here. But if it was. I'm getting out of this country ASAP.
