You're joking right? This post is a joke? Ha, don't tell me you're being serious.
I'm being serious what's wrong with my post?
Look at his previous posts and you will find your answer.
I...I'm not saying anything's wrong with it per se, just surprised. Three main characters are black? One of which has been an established character from the comics for years? I mean, your post doesn't offend me personally.
I just thought you were joking because your rationale for racism here is so thin birds smack into it on accident.
racism would be if lee acted like a stereotypical black dude. heck they even made a joke about that in episode 2.
How is having three POC protagonists racist? Also when none of them are racially stereotyped?
Maybe it would be politically incorrect to have a white protagonist, as far as Telltale is concerned?
And if that's the case, I really want a straight white male protagonist, as it seems that nowadays if you're white, male, or straight, you're automatically politically incorrect. Take that political correctness!!!
i just see it was telltale trying to separate itself from the comics and do thier own thing.
yes because reverse racism is totally real lmao
Racism is a thing in general, it's not subjected to individual races, anyone can be racist regardless of race. "Racism is the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person's social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics."
How is having darker skin-toned main characters racist at all? Have you played The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, Tales From The Borderlands, Back To The Future, MineCraft: Story Mode, Sam & Max etc. those main characters are mostly of a lighter skin-tone, some are tanned. P.S. what do you mean by 'black' Lee, Clementine and Michonne are brown in terms of skin colour.
Technically it wouldn't be Racism, it would be stereotyping, if Telltale made it look like and even said that Lee's race was inferior to Kenny's or something along those lines, that would be Racism, using a Stereotypical character doesn't necessarily equate to being Racist.
No.
No. A game series having all white main characters wouldn't be racist either.
That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read .
Yeah because videogames already have enough non-white characters.
I don't know about Telltale but some of their fans...
No it's not racist, they've got three protagonists, who cares if their all black.
In a world where most video game protagonists are white, no. It's not racist.
Please stop.
yes, but white people aren't oppressed at all.
The fuck is reverse racism. Isn't racism just racism?
"Reverse racism is a phenomenon in which discrimination, sometimes officially sanctioned, against a dominant or formerly dominant racial or other group representative of the majority in a particular society takes place, for a variety of reasons, often initially as an attempt at redressing past wrongs."
How is Clem black though?
Hmm...So that's not real? Explain to me then why a 9 year old boy was found hung after being bullied for being white by asian bullies? I know it is way less prevalent than "normal" racism but saying it doesn't exist at all doesn't help anyone and is just plain false.
EDIT
Also, on the note of the reverse racism, what's the point in dividing the two problems? It sounds like justification to me and racism is wrong, no matter who you're targeting.
Basically what I'm trying to say here, both of her parents was black and she's black too.
There is no such thing as reverse racism. What you just stated is racial prejudice. Those two are completely different. Reverse racism is not real because racial prejudice directed at white people doesn’t have the weight of institutional oppression behind it, however, that doesn’t meant that White people aren’t sometimes hurt by racial prejuice.
Her father is definitely black but her mother looks kind of asian or something.
The Oxford dictionary states that racism is defined by "Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior". So by that, if an Asian person went to discriminate against someone who was white, that is still racism. That's all I want to say as I don't want this to blow into a full debate and I'm pretty sure diverging off of the discussion is against forum rules. So in conclusion, racism should just be racism and all cases of it should take as equally wrong, I just feel the word "reverse racism" or the notion that it doesn't exist causes unneeded division and unintentional justification, so I peacefully disagree.
If there had only been white protagonists so far, and someone complained, you'd be one of the people telling them to stop being politically correct.
However systemic racism is a very different thing, and something that white people by definition cannot experience.
It's so common these days to have SJWs like this asking for 'straight white male' representation, as if straight white men aren't already massively represented in videogames.
The funniest, or most irritating, thing is that if there had only been white protagonists, and someone said they thought the next one should be black, or insinuated that Telltale were racist because of this, these same exact people complaining about the lack of white people would be attacking them, belittling them for being 'SJWs', 'liberals' etc.
Would you call Telltale racist if the protagonists had been white?
Nah, stereotypign can be racist if racially motivated, because the point of stereotypes is to generalise and thus belittle as human.
Racism and Oppression are two entirely different things and yes, white people have been oppressed before as well although not all, some lighter skin-toned individuals who have been oppressed include Transgenders, Homosexuals, Females etc. The definition of oppression is "prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or exercise of authority." It's not something exclusive to the shade of your skin tone, it happened to many individuals regardless of skin-tone in the past and it's still happening to some in the present, I don't think it's very fair to say that 'white' people aren't oppressed at all, especially since you don't know that.
I apologize but I've never heard of Systemic Racism, I went on some sights and it seems to be about the amount of money gained by different individuals based on skin-tone, to be honest, I'm a little surprised Racism is still taking it's course, whilst these studies do show that Systemic Racism seems to be primarily exclusive to darker-skin toned individuals and even some tanned individuals, Racism in general can still happen regardless of skin-tone.
I believe Clementine is African-American?
But the person who locked is thread is white so therefore Telltale is not racist.
And it's kind of unfair to count Michonne since she's an adapted character.
