Image Comics and Diamond Comic Distributors are pleased to announce Image+, an all-new monthly magazine which will feature Image’s upcoming releases, as well as bonus creator-owned comics content. Each issue will be distributed with Diamond’s PREVIEWS Catalog each month, with the first issue of Image+ available in May.

Each of the first twelve issues of Image+ magazine will feature an original, four-page THE WALKING DEAD story concerning Negan’s origins, and created by New York Times bestselling team Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, for a total of 48 pages of backstory.

Maybe we will finally learn Negan's first/last name?

  • I think Negan IS his name. There has been no indication it isn't and it would be really awkward if it was since he tells everyone to call him that , even the people he's close to personaly.

  • It's certainly a weird first name then. I always took it as his last name, but I suppose that could the case.

Yeah its just that Robert Kirkman really likes supervillain names. Its why Philip Blake is always refered to as 'The Governor'. And infact his last name comes from 'Black' meaning darkness meaning evil.

Negan comes from Negative as he represent almost everything wrong with people in the post apocalyptic scenario. Infact his original name was Negus but Kirkman thought no parent would ever name their kid that so Negan became his name.

  • I don't really like the idea of this, his slightly unclear origin was good

  • I'm not sure any parent would name their kid Negan either.

A little off-topic, but now did you pronounce Negan before you learned it was said correctly? I said it "NAY-GAN" until I was on the Walking Dead wiki and it showed the correct pronunciation as "KNEE-GAN".

  • I agree. Negan is most likely not his actual name. Also I feel like Negan's origin will be similar to the Terminus group minus the cannibal elements. I doubt Negan was always a dictator psychopath, he most likely lost his family to somebody similar and after killing the man responsible, adopted his personality and what not (when you think about it, it's like Kenny slowly turning into Carver after killing him). I really feel as if it's just Rick went one way and Negan went another way early on, either of them could of have been in each others position when they finally meet.

  • Negan was just a sad computer programmer who was trying his hardest to be a high school baseball coach.

I always said 'Knee-gan' since the hispanic pronounciation is 'Ne-gan' so i just psychologicaly assumed it. But i understand why there could be a mistake in pronouncing it.

  • Well actually one of the things that Negan has always expressed is that he hasn't let the world change him. Infact he said once that he has never been described as a good person and people only started to admire him afther the apocalypse.

  • Actually according to Kirkman he was a used car salesman.

  • Hopefully it's mostly new pages and not a bit lazy like how the previous origin story specials have had old pages copied and pasted.

  • Hmm I wonder what he was like? Could be a good guy turned evil and not realize/care. The whole "we don't rape" rule has me thinking this. Perhaps he was just like Rick and when people starting to turn for him all the time for solutions, the power and worship just went to his head. Where as Rick didn't let it go that far.
