You need to build the Minutemen up and get at least to completing the quest Old Guns. After that, you need to become enemies with the Brothe… morerhood (killing Maxson for his threads works well enough). After that, speak to Preston and he shall give you the quest.
Although weak, she/he has the ability to zip to each enemy (Blitz) with critical and powerful sneak attacks (Ninja) and powerful melee weapons (Big Leagues). She is also very hard to see (Sneak) where she/he can pick pockets to plant live grenades and even take people's weaponry with muffled shadowed leather armour to better her advantage.
Where she/he is not very social (Low Charisma) she/he makes up for in Intelligence earning high XP for kills. Also being able to disable robots (Robotics Expert) at the touch of a button. With luck on her side she/he is able to refill her critical hit bar very quick and efficiently (Grim Reaper Sprint) and store up to 3 Critical Hits (Critical Banker).
Factions:
Railroad. This is to get the Ballistic Weave armour mod for under armour outfits.
(Complete one Jackpot Quest from P.A.M) Then talk to Tinker Tom which completes this invisible quest for this mod.
From then on it's your choice what faction.
Followers:
Deacon - 20% More Sneak Damage and 40% Stealth Boy Duration. Once achieved full companionship to get perk dismiss as it's easier to sneak without followers.
Preston - 20% Damage and 20% More Damge reduction when attacked by 3 or more enemies.
Danse - 20% More damage against Synths, Super Mutants and Ghouls

Thanks! I never thought about going to talk to doctors about it, mostly because I kinda blew up Megaton and thought there was no hope for another doctor, but I remember there are quite a few vendors that I interacted with in my last playthrough. Now I'll just need some caps.
