Underrated Movies

Since I love talking about movies, I decided to start a thread about which films you believe are under appreciated.

Here's mine in no particular order.

Oculus

Manhunter

enter image description here

The Descent

enter image description here

Eyes Wide Shut

enter image description here

Tokyo Godfathers

enter image description here

Finding Forrester

I'll add more if I can think of more.

  • Emperor First 10 Minutes. Wonderful film by the way. No one ever talks about it. I never heard of it until I found it on DVD as well.

  • Ayyyyy

    - The Gift (It's as if Saltlick and I are the only ones who've seen this movie)

    enter image description here

    - Prisoners (Again, nobody talks about it)

    enter image description here

    - The King of Comedy

    I add more later

Truman Show is rated high everywhere, but that doesn't mean it got all the praise it deserved. It should have won Best Picture and Best Writing(instead they all went to Shakespeare in Love) and hell, even Jim Carrey was great in the movie. He portrayed his character perfectly and he left an everlasting impression on me.

The truly misunderstood sequel that concludes the Godfather Saga perfectly. It's a well-acted(except for Sophia Coppola) well-written drama that deserves the Godfather name. It should have been more carefully examined rather than: "Duh, just another cash-cow."

Now I know what you are all thinking: "This guy's still talking about Rocky, it's enough." But no, it isn't. The hate this movie gets is ridiculous. It's nowhere near as bad as many people make it out to be. The story ain't bad, acting is nice, the street fight is awesome and Elton John's song is a masterpiece. Don't miss out on this one.

Never in my life I have seen so much hate for a motion picture. It's unbelieveable how people go crazy instantaneously when they hear the words: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull" I don't understand it. It nuked the fridge? Well, in the Temple of Doom, Indy jumped out of a plane with a raft and used it to slide down the mountain. That's what it's about. It's fantasy. And what about the aliens? Do I really care? It's good that they decided change things up a little bit in my opinion. So to conclude, this movie is the most underrated movie of all time.

  • The Hunt! Oh man, I wanted to see that movie for a long time now.

  • Oops, sorry about that. I haven't watched Temple of Doom as much as I watched the others. I feel so embarassed right now.

  • Yes but Tokyo Godfather isn't really an underrated film. It's highly praised actually.

  • Yes! This is my favorite film of all time. The reason I didn't include it is because it's been picking up in popularity a little more lately.

  • What about Shane Acker's 9? Did anybody get to see that? It was one of my favorite films when I was younger!

    I don't think ralo229 likes that movie lol. I haven't seen it.

  • I wouldn't dare to watch the movie, because the story is so heartbreaking and such injustice that Mads Mikkelsen's character has to go through...

  • The Gift and Prisoners were both good. Haven't seen The King of Comedy. Heard of it though.

  • I was just about to say that! I love that movie! It's so creative and the imagery is so eerie and depressing. No one seems to remember it though.

  • Last
    Action
    Hero.

A golden collection of 80's action nonsense all shoveled together.

For me, need I say more. Sure, the plot is straight forward, but it was fun and the characters made the film, especially Reese Witherspoon's Susan/Ginormcia, whom I credit as the first true animated independent heroine. Any followups would've been full of potential, but alas.

    Someday, I hope...

  • Ehh... I didn't really like Monster vs. Aliens that much. It just wasn't very good in my eyes. Sorry. :/

  • Scott Pilgrim Vs The World was horribly underrated, making less than half it's budget despite the good reviews. Love this movie!

    "YOU COCKY COCK!"

But seriously, I don't understand the absence of recognition either! It's hilarious, the references are great, all the actors are amazing, and the music is wonderful! Glad to find someone else who appreciates it!

  • What did you like about it?

For me, it appealed to the sci-fi buff in me. I knew a a majority of the cast, which did considerably well, and my fav is the heroine voiced perfectly by Reese Witherspoon. I'd loved to see this film become a series.

    Really underrated.

  • Totally forgot that one. Last Action Hero was awesome. It was a great satire of the action genre, not to mention Arnold kicked ass, like always.

    Dune (1984)

Review does have some minor spoilers, but being the story isn't really the strongest part of the film it isn't that big of a deal personally. It's a confusing film so having some explaining isn't a bad thing. hehe

  • Maybe it's underrated, I haven't watched it in a long time, but let's be fair: Eric Foreman was never meant to be Venom.
