Because it means he couldn't spread his teachings or good faith any more on Earth. I don't fully understand it either, I think it means he took all the sins of earth on his shoulders and died with it, which is why he forgave the people executing him. Idk, that's been hard for me to understand also. I'll look it up
Something I also don't get. If Jesus knew after he died he'd go to Heaven, which is better than Earth, then why is him dying a 'sacrifice'? … moreSacrifice is giving up something good for the better of others - he is exchanging something good for something way better.
No? I don't understand. This is a different person commenting. The one I am saying is 'uneducated', clearly isn't religious at all, and is j… moreust pointing out things that aren't true, putting all Christians under the one banner and making statements (such as the one about 'Satan') that don't even make sense. I may have worded it wrong but it's not what I mean at all. People can believe whatever they like, but it isn't fair to throw stones on other beliefs when what you say is incorrect.

Not at all. You are definitely uneducated. What even made you assume any of what you said?
You make no sense, Satan is representative of ou… morer sins, he's representing temptation, the bad in this world, in people's minds etc. Learn a bit about theology before you spout pointless comments that don't even make sense. The whole book of Revelations is about world destroying monsters, whores and so forth bringing hell onto earth. Is it real? No. Is it meant to be? No. It's a representation, it's a story. But all of it is relevant in it's own scenario. You are simply saying because someone is 'mentioned' in the Bible it means we are all saying it definitely exists. The only people that think that are crazy nut jobs like the Westboro Baptist Church...and NO sane Christian agrees with any of the shit that comes out of their mouth.

But he's about to live a life of eternal bliss. He basically won't actually die, because life in heaven in unimaginably better and more glorious than that on Earth.
My only argument about Satan is his portrayal as a god within the Christian faith. Satan goes well beyond a representation of our sins.
Just as an example
Satan (Hebrew: שָּׂטָן satan, meaning "adversary"; Arabic: شيطان shaitan, meaning; "astray", "distant", or sometimes "devil") is a figure appearing in the texts of the Abrahamic religions who brings evil and temptation, and is known as the deceiver who leads humanity astray. Some religious groups teach that he originated as an angel who fell out of favor with God, seducing humanity into the ways of sin, and who has power in the fallen world. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, Satan is primarily an accuser and adversary, a decidedly malevolent entity, also called the devil, who possesses demonic qualities.
Satan is traditionally identified as the serpent who tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, as he was in Judaism. Thus Satan has often been depicted as a serpent. Christian agreement with this can be found in the works of Justin Martyr, in Chapters 45 and 79 of Dialogue with Trypho, where Justin identifies Satan and the serpent. Other early church fathers to mention this identification include Theophilus and Tertullian.
From the fourth century, Lucifer is sometimes used in Christian theology to refer to Satan, as a result of identifying the fallen "son of the dawn" of Isaiah 14:12 with the "accuser" of other passages in the Old Testament.
For most Christians, Satan is believed to be an angel who rebelled against God. In the New Testament he is called "the ruler of the demons" (Matthew 12:24), "the ruler of the world", and "the god of this world" (2 Cor. 4:4). The Book of Revelation describes how Satan was cast out of Heaven, having "great anger" and waging war against "those who obey God's commandments". Ultimately, Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire.
The early Christian church encountered opposition from pagans such as Celsus, who claimed that "it is blasphemy...to say that the greatest God...has an adversary who constrains his capacity to do good" and said that Christians "impiously divide the kingdom of God, creating a rebellion in it, as if there were opposing factions within the divine, including one that is hostile to God".
Again, sounds considerably more than a representation. Referring to him as an actually Deity in ways.
And when they do wrong, since you have allowed them to do wrong, punish them (for eternity while you're at it). The God of the abrahamic religions is a jealous, egomaniacal, sadistic, capricious entity. Hitchens summed up the problem of evil concisely with the line "created sick and commanded to be well."
I found this intereting article, you might read it :
The Problem Of Pain
Just quoting here :
“God created things which had free wil… morel. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can't. If a thing is free to be good it's also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata -of creatures that worked like machines- would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. Giving your life for others is a great sacrifice. Not giving your life for others is not a great sacrifice. Jesus made no sacrifice worth noting (if his story is true).
But he's about to live a life of eternal bliss. He basically won't actually die, because life in heaven in unimaginably better and more glorious than that on Earth.
Sometimes it's easier to accept it all as some kind of a plan but there are times when it's easier to think of everything as a random thing, "it just happens". If God intervened every single time something bad happened, our lives would be perfect so I like to think, at least that much, that bad stuff's going to happen because the world is just designed like that. Good and bad. I personally wouldn't have appreciated a lot of things like happiness and satisfaction with self if I hadn't gone through it. It's very difficult to accept all of it at once, I am still a bit confused.
But if God is both good and almighty, why would he allow war, famine and senseless death to occur? Why would he settle for less than the best for his children? You need to know the bad to know the good, but it seems kinda pointless when the bad automatically kills someone.
I'm very sorry for you friend. I wonder the same thing very often, although being a believer.

These quotes are nice :

I was never taught everything was literal either. The thing is, the Bible doen't give us any indication of what is metaphorical and what's not,we all have assumed some things are metaphorical because they make no senseBut just because you and i were taught that as kids doesn't mean it has to be true.I'm human so i might not understand it, but i need a proof of wha really happen and what didn't, otherwhise it just looks like the church made some things metaphorical because they didn't make sense.
I'm not sure where you learnt your faith, but i've never been taught that it's all literal, nor brought up to believe it so.
Big world, everyone grows up with different religious backgrounds.

I was raised in a christian family, and I have always been a bit confused about the whole 'christianity' thing. I do however, still believe in a god, I just don't follow any of the rules at all. I think the whole thing is a bit too much, to be honest, seeing all those racist, homophobic and stupid christians on TV and videos and stuff turned me off of christianity a bit. I know you don't see many people like that in real life, but as they say; one bad apple can ruin the bunch.
Well there are different views in Christianity about the eternal punishment aka hell. Some believe you really burn for eternity, some believe you just cease to exist, in a way you are separated from God etc. Only one way to find out...
The God of the abrahamic religions is a jealous, egomaniacal, sadistic, capricious entity.
I can see why a lot of people think that way beacause a lot of verses in Bible seem too cold for us.

If He intervened then He'd have to do it every single time, it can only then be fair for everyone, and then we'd end up living in a perfect peaceful world where everyone got their own wishes. I guess free will works only this way. But this is just my personal opinion though, I'd recommend you to aks someone who's good at explaining this stuff. Try reddit.com/r/Christianity.

all religions confuse me. now that i comprehend more. but i never really was really attracted to religion, even as a child. i never wanted to go to communion or what whatever it's called. never wanted to go to church, never wanted to learn to use the rosary, learn prayers and all of that (im catholic, but i guess that you guessed it cuz of the rosary lol). but i did believed in God for sometime, but then it just didnt sit well for me. not to rile people up but i really think this world would be better off without religion. i know that it wouldn't solve everything, but it be better of probably by a bit. but then again idk if i really believe that much... i mean i can see the beauty of religion, there is some very beautiful stuff there, but i dont fully get it. i do need to read the bibles though, they look like awesome pieces of literature.

Positive eternal punishment or negative eternal punishment is still eternal punishment. And that is especially deplorable when taking into account he creates the "sick" individual knowing he will punish them. Like having a child knowing they will grow up, do wrong, and spend the rest of their life in solitary, it's reprehensible.
I can see why a lot of people think that way beacause a lot of verses in Bible seem too cold for us.
Cold isn't the word I would use. More like vile, horrendous, terrible, extravagantly immoral, etc.
Obviously this doesn't apply to all Christians. Many have contorted the Bible to allow themselves a more moral foundation completely in line with a secular one (in my opinion the best option) which is good, and to them none of the above matters.

I believe in God, but I believe that he and Jesus are two separate persons. I believe that Jesus was sent to earth by God, as he often referred to God as "The one who sent me."
And based on my first two beliefs, they leads me to believe that when Jesus said: "The father and I are one", he meant it as they are one in agreement.
Am Christian. Never understood the whole thing with Christians and left-handed people. I'm right-handed, but a friend of mine was raised Catholic, and was yelled at for using her left hand...
