According to English reviews, the volleyball gameplay is unchanged from previous games in the series, the minigames aren't that fun, and it has grinding and micro-transactions.
It sounds like the Western market got the better of the deal when it was decided to not bring it over here.
I don't want the game, and I think it looks shit, however I fully support the game being released here, as censorship of any kind, no matter how small, is incredibly stupid.
It's not censorship though since the company itself is the one that decided to not release it in the Western market. No one prevented them from selling it outside of Asia. In fact, they were even offered $1 million by an external publisher to publish it in the United States, but they didn't accept the offer. They just decided to not release it outside of Asia as the market for the series isn't there for the game outside of that region. The past games in the series sold poorly in the Western market, and judging from the English reviews it wouldn't be likely to change much for this game either.
It got a boost in imports due to the controversy, but Night Trap also got a boost in sales due to a similar controversy over its content when it was released. That game was not good either, and ended up selling poorly after the initial boost from the controversy settled down as the quality wasn't enough to sustain it without the hype.
And how do we know the company actually didn't release it here because of SJWs complaining, and just said an excuse to avoid even more controversy? Sure, the previous entries didn't sell before, but if they didn't sell well, why didn't they just stop releasing here after the first one?
They were offered $1 million to publish it, risk free, since HuniePop would be the one taking the heat for releasing the game in the United States. They didn't accept that offer though. The only reason why they'd turn down a deal like that is because they don't feel like the deal would be worth it monetarily. HuniePop would get the first $1 million to get their investment back, and the game most likely wouldn't make enough in the West for them to get much, if any, of a profit on it.
The company has been suffering losses due to the series in the West and decided to put an end to it. It's not the first time that a studio put a ton of cash into a dying franchise, putting an end to it long after it had already put them into the red.
Then why not, as I said, put an end to the series in the west after the first game?
If they were so concerned about people complaining about sexism in the series they wouldn't have kept it going for this long. There have been tons of complaints about the sexism of the series in the Western market since the release of the first game (and even moreso since the second).
The first release wasn't a flop, commerically or critically, in the Western market. So, it made sense for them to bring the first couple of sequels over here (as one was just a remake of the second game for a different system, under a different name). However, those sold poorly in the Western market, and were reviewed poorly. Because of that, it does make commercial sense to not bring the third entry to the Western market.
I ordered it no one tells me what I will be offended by! lol
Meh.
