A new interactive Telltale-inspired adventure game - 1979 Revolution

The game will be launching next Tuesday and seems pretty damn interesting, also educational in a sense since it follows a real protest in Iran in the 80's.

The best part. It's not episodic, so you won't have to worry about lengthy wait times between episodes.

Check out some trailers and an entire section from the game (obvious mild spoilers)

  • The graphics are just...off for me. The eyes especially. The voice acting seems kind of weird too.

I'm kind of confused if the main character is pro-revolution or not, knowing what the Iranian Revolution led to.

Probably won't get it, but the setting definitely looks interesting.

The gameplay looks too much like a straight Telltale formula rip-off but i don't really mind that too much, the setting also seems very interesting.

A good amount of pro-Democracy people got caught up deposing the Shah. It didn't end well for them. One cruel despotism was replaced with another.

Looks really interesting, will definitely keep an eye one this. But the graphics look like someone made an entirely new game on the Sims engine.

There's another Telltale inspired episodic game that just recently came out. It's called The Descendant in case anyone is interested. And when I mean inspired I mean heavily inspired. The gameplay is a straight copy of Telltales formula. It's got pretty good reviews so far. Haven't played it yet but I've bought the first Episode and it looks interesting.

  • thanks for saying something, it looks pretty interesting. I think I might just take the risk and buy the full season.

  • I've been interested in this game since seeing it on Greenlight. I'll definitely be playing it.

  • The game is giving off some Telltale Jurassic Park vibes judging by the art style, since it closely resembles each other. Though the differences are there.

I might pick it up later, or watch a playthrough.

  • Bump because the game is now available on Steam. Check it out if you want too, it's about 10 bucks.

  • I am going to quietly observe the game first before I make my choice. :)

  • Taking too much pictures, too much puzzles.

If it can just focus on the story...... :/

  • You're lazy as fuck aren't you? Filthy casual...

  • Any other telltale inspired games? Other than this and Life is Strange and The Descendants?

The Decendants cant run on my PC and this has too much puzzles.

  • That's your fault though.

  • I really enjoyed this game. The gameplay is almost identical to a Telltale game. My only problem is the cliffhanger ending. It is obviously intended to be a series, and hopefully it will be.

  • Have you tried Blues and Bullets?

My only problem is the cliffhanger ending.

Without spoiling too much, how bad is the cliffhanger? I'm with fine with an open-ended ending, but not with a a gun to the main character's head. Like, I was totally fine with the "cliffhanger" ending of The Wolf Among Us finale, but I would have been pissed if they ended it at Episode 4. Which one is Revolution closer to?

I was tempted to mention this. I have not played it, though the interrogation scene shown makes it seem like something I'd like.

Anyway, it's sad to see people already complaining about the length in the comments section for a Steam review without even playing it. I wonder if they have the 'wtf 2 hours?' view for movies as well. I'm guessing double-standards.

So yeah, if you're that hung up on length and use it as a determining factor as to whether something's good, perhaps best to avoid.

  • Positive.

Are you sure that game uses the telltale modern formula?

  • 'Gamers' these days sighs adventure games used to mean puzzle solving, you used to have to put in the effort and you were rewarded with story, now it means sit back watch a movie and answer some yes no questions.

Definitely closer to ep 4 of TWAU. It's hard to describe without spoiling, but it definitely feels incomplete (as if another episode is coming soon). Instead of credits, I half expected to see "Next time on 1979 Revolution".

  • Interesting VICE article that gives some good background on the game's characters and the experiences of the people who made it.

The game was condemned by clerics and people involved with it were forced to flee Iran. Just goes to show the impact that games and other media can have on the political stage.

  • Wow, this looks really interesting. I might actually give in and spend some money to get myself a copy.
