What are your thoughts on Michael Bay's TMNT movie versions?

edited April 2016 in General Chat

When the first trailer for the 1st movie came out, many die-hard tmnt fans said, "Michael Bay is only going to ruin the franchise". Now the second movie is coming out.

So my question is: Did Michael bay really ruin TMNT?

Comments

  • To be fair, the older fans felt this franchise ruined LONG before Michael Bay got involved. It's been the franchise that just wont die. Ever since the immensely popular 80's show and successful first film, they've kept trying and trying, rebooting and rebooting in many attempts to get that popularity back.

I didn't care about the first film of the newest incarnation. However, the second looks very interesting. It's really the first attempt at taking the popular formula and transplanting it to feature film pretty much as is. It might work. The trailers look like it will work. It might end up being a giant mess though. I guess we'll see.

The CGI still looks like shit, but hey, it looks like it'll be a very cartoony movie anyway.

  • I've always loved TMNT. I like this series too but they do so much wrong. They don't even feel like Ninja's anymore. Plus they talk like fucking super heroes now, "We're just four brothers who hate bullies and love this city" UGH! They don't even stick to the shadows or try to hide their existance. I also still have a stick up my ass about Megan Fox. Makes me so mad.

I've loved TMNT almost my entire life, the 80's cartoon, the 90's movie, TMNT Forever, even the new one on Nick. And the first Bay movie was just... it was just the worst ever. However, after watching the trailer for the second movie, I believe Bay might actually pull something good out of this franchise. Casey Jones looks awesome, the Kraang seem pretty sweet, AND BEBOP & ROCKSTEADY IN THE MOVIE WITH DECENT CGI! KICK IT BEBOP! TURN ON TAKE ON ME BY AHA OR SOME OTHER 80'S SHIT! I MEAN HOLY FUCK! (sorry, I'm a huge Bebop and Rocksteady fanboy)

Also, while I do think Megan Fox is the worst actress I have ever seen ever and is a complete rotten bitch, she's also very attractive. So I'm not opposed to some April O'Neil eye candy man, I mean, I had a pretty big crush on the 80's rendition of April. Although who wouldn't? That yellow jumpsuit could win anybody's heart.

    This video awesome on it

I loved cartoon the film not great but watchable

At least there trying I guess better then nothing

    Bad but watchable

  • I turned the first one off after 20 minutes.

  • I'd say he's defecating on it. Did it to Transformers, now Turtles. I can't even look at Donatello, what an ugly freak parade.

And that Swiss Army knife Shredder. FU bay!

  • It sucks.

  • Never seen the first one and by the looks of it I think I dodged a bullet there. But idk this looks at least decent.

  • I don't have much of an opinion aside from the fact that the animation is horrifying.

  • Personally the style that is the Ninja turtles is truly a early 90s thing. Doesn't translate well in the 21st Century personally.

Because CGI is over rated, I will take practical effects 100x over CGI Turtles.

  • They look horrible. Prefer the old movies, where they don't look like they have realistic human-like features on them despite being turtles.

  • At the same time because they were not CGI the fighting scenes seemed more believable and realistic. As one special effects expert said. CGI often causes film makers to make films less believable rather than more believable. lol

If they manage to make a good movie out of this, it would be somewhat surprising.

I mean, they try to bring Technodrome into the mix and we probably don't see the military getting involved as ones who stop it.

It will be those turtles, of course. However if Krang is competent villain, how they can pull that off without "forcing" the plot.

The thing about eighties cartoon is that it's so goofy that the villains follow the mold. In the movies, Shredder is at least competent unlike his cartoon counterpart from the eighties series.

Also, has Foot Clan switched from guns to mainly swords due they believe it's more effective way to combat the teenage mutant turtles? Outside of making cooler action scenes etc it doesn't seem to make much sense.

  • why do i feel the opposite? am i abnormal? i just didn't like the old looks where they talk like puppets. i still remember the movie where their enemy looked like mutated birds and they were looking for a flower/plant of some sort (im not even sure if this is in the same movie). i didn't finished it coz i got bored & sleepy (i watched it in the 90s i think, but im pretty sure CGs there weren't much CG movies yet).

  • Michael Bay as a whole sucks, unless you have a explosion fetish.

  • Trip down the uncanny valley. Btw, Bay was the producer, not the director. Either way, the director has effectively made shit, shit, and shit, so, there's that.

Actually, it gets me aggravated, because I'm sure they're both rich, and I'm not, and I'm convinced I have more talent than both of them combined. Now if only I would get off my fat ass and actually do something about it...
