Do old houses give you the creeps?

edited April 2016 in General Chat

The most part old houses don't give me the creeps, but if they're dimly lit, or if they've got a rather creepy story behind them, then yes they do.

I've always believed in God, Jesus, The Devil, Angels and Demons. and while I'm not overly superstitious person, and that I don't believe in charms or anything like that I also believe it's not a good thing to try to tempt fate, if you will.

Well I live in an apartment but it's kind of old? It was first owned by my grandfather who passed it down to my mum. I'm not superstitious at all and there's nothing that happens here that I'd call creepy.

  • old hoses dont creep me out as such but if they are haunted i would be creeped

  • This thread made me want to find out how old my house is, so I did some digging and its early 1700s, but more interestingly the house and street I grew up on was built by french POWs also in the early 1700s.

I cant help but have have a chuckle when 50yrs is considered old for a house in america when my house is possibly older then america itself.

  • I guess I should call an exorcist, since I can hear things sometimes.

  • Well there's sound all around you, if it gets too quiet you start to hear sounds that aren't there as well. I'm surprised how quiet it can get here in an apartment, considering there's people above, below and adjacent to me.

  • When I'm alone, I can hear footsteps from upstairs or sometimes some things get knocked over.

  • I never been to any of the old houses, but if I were to live in one and I start to hear weird fucking noises; then I would probably get out of there and move out.

  • Oh yeah sorry that's me, I'm clumsy.

  • D:

    I don't like being scared. :<

  • I'm not a fan of voices calling my name. Sometimes when my parents are out, and I'm alone browsing Youtube or whatever, I hear someone yelling "Megan!" from downstairs, only to realize that I'm alone.

I'm still creeped out to this very day.

  • Old houses, dark forests, cabins in the woods, none of that bothers me at all. The only time I feel uncomfortable is when I'm in the city.

  • A man died in my apartment, sad.

But yeah they are ugly and creepy, I've visited some of them. When it is a nice day out it's cool but I would never stay there in the nighttime.

Oh I love old houses and buildings, they creep me out. They're wonderful and awful at the same time, I love the thrill of being creeped out and intrigued.

  • Not really... Unless they're abandoned, in the middle of nowhere, or have a dark backstory involving murder.

  • Depends if they're well maintained then no they have style, but if they run down then well...but that can be said for ,,new" rund down building too..

  • Holy shit, yes.

I had to stay with my aunt over the summer a few years ago and let me say, that house is something else. It's protected by the local government because it's historical even though the house creeks like crazy and is loaded with some sort of entity. When I was staying there, my sister would work until midnight or 1 AM and since we shared a room, I'd wait for her to get home before I could sleep. I constantly felt like I was being watched.

    It was the worst.

Kind of, depends on the overall atmosphere I guess.

One of my aunts used to live in the house she, my mom and the rest of their siblings grew up in. It was just her and her pets, and for the longest time she never bothered to refurnish things, so every room had a very antique feel to it. It would creep me out at times, especially if I went upstairs. Don't think it was haunted or anything but it still wasn't the kind of place I'd want to stay in by myself.

  • The creeps? Not really, unless it's broken down and falling apart, then it's more of a "This place isn't safe to be in" rather than "Ehh, this is creepy."

  • The only thing that gives me the creeps is how dirty most old houses are.

Mysophobia, man. I won't step in them until they are thoroughly wiped down.

  • Do old creeps give you the houses?

  • That depends.

  • Depends. There's this old decaying house a couple of miles away from where I live and literally every time I drive past it with someone I always say, "I'm willing to bet money that that house is haunted." Granted, it was bought by someone and was fixed up and actually looks livable now, but it could still be haunted. You never know.
