I was in for the most part but the questions at the end were a bit too personal for my taste. Sorry :l
Didn't answer the last few as well.
Completely filled out. I had no problem doing it. The personal info might have been a thing 10+ years ago, but now I can get more info on each of you just by getting you to click on a link. Age and location are nothing.
That's ok, I hate giving out any personal info myself, so I get it. Still thanks for the rest of your answers, appreciated!
This test in a nutshell
Haha!
How do you get someone's age by having them click a link?
Impossible.
done best 5 minutes of my life
Done. I understand its just for fun, nothing much personal stuff. Good job, hope my contibution helps
But...i wrote 'no' in are u human box and it succeeded lmao
I don't really get how people say the test is creepy. It's completely anonymous anyway.
Many thanks to everyone who has participated so far. This is a sweet community, and believe you me, I've seen plenty of bitter ones
Really good, I do like gaming a lot
Good news everyone, I got some numbers for you, just as promised.
I'm doing this in 2 steps: revealing some demographic stats today (which shouldn't influence any following participats) and leave the survey open for another day or two, in case I can get a couple of more participats out of it. The rest of the numbers will follow after.
About 20 english-speaking forums were included, mainly gaming oriented.
N is currently at nearly 400. (I expected to get more participants tbh, but yeah, surveys aren't the most popular thing ever, let's not kid ourselves here.)
The M to F ratio is 9 to 1.
So, Joe Average has been playing games for at least 16 years and gets his games on for about 3.5 hours per day. Dude most likely lives in suburbia, maybe in the city, somewhere in America or Europe. Joe likes playing PC games the most, with some console & mobile gaming on the side. Whether Joe likes long walks on the beach wasn't included in the survey. ; )
Cheers to everyone who participated and/or helped out, some of you really made this spamming journey less sucky
The survey is now closed. Here's a couple of numbers I promised for all you geeks The numerus did not increase much.
Interest shown (average) (1-5)
Adventure 3.6
Casual 2.5
Fighting 2.4
Platformer 2.6
Puzzle 2.6
Racing 2.2
RPG 4.0
Shooter 3.1
Simulation 3.0
Sports 1.9
Strategy 3.9
Newer or older games played
Mostly newer 13%
Equal 68%
Mostly older 19%
Top 3 importance of multiplayer mechanisms (average) (1-6):
3. Competitive (3.1)
2. Co-op (3.2)
1. Free mode (3.6) (interesting)
I'm nowhere with the statements yet, because those need to be treated still, as they are indicators (attributes) rather than variables. "Playing games can cheer me up on a bad day" - applies to the most; "I feel nervous if I am not able to play any digital games" - applies to the least.
Feel free to discuss/interpret, I'll stay in touch if possible.
I still got so much to do, keep your fingers crossed
Did the f to m remain at 9 1, I find that surprising I thought the gap was closing and the "women dont game" thing was a myth.
Depends which forums the samples were taken from. The high RPG ranking has me intrigued as that includes myself, but I can't imagine it having a very big following on this forum. RPG fanbases are still highly male. The women I know whom game are mostly into platformers and casual games. I'm not trying to stereotype, but if I were to do the survey amongst my friends, that's the results I would get. Personally, from my sample pool, I would expect a 9-1 ratio from RPG & Strategy fans as that seems to be where the majority of the survey pool falls.
"Women don't play video games" is still bullshit.
M 91,2% / F 8,8% / So, yes, 9 to 1 approx.
Maybe there's just fewer ladies on the forums but they still play ... Most research on videogames still struggles with providing insights into female gaming, the problem might be not getting to those ladies.
