To have a world where people are not just looking out for themselves. That's the reason that we have selfish, and arrogant politicians and government. They come from among the American people - which are sadly nothing but a bunch of self-centered, self-serving, and consumeristic.
In the words of George Carlin: "If you have selfish ignorant people, you're going to get selfish ignorant politicians. And the term limits are not going to do any good because you're just going to end up with another batch of selfish and ignorant leaders.
So maybe it's not the politicians who suck, maybe something else around here sucks - like, the public."
Of course, it's not just the American people that for the most part are selfish. This entire world is selfish! No matter what country you go to, you're going to find selfish, arrogant jerks, and you're going to find selfish and arrogant people in government, so matter what country you go too.
That's why the world is in such a mess that it's in. and if people for the most part are selfish in little things, they're also going to be selfish in big things. Jesus said: "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much." - Luke 16:10. Selfishness knows no bounds!
I'm not saying it's wrong to be selfish in certain areas of your life. If we weren't we'd never do anything good for ourselves. But the point is, if you want to have a decent world, then you have to have people who are not just looking out for themselves, but also each other.
