This is just ridiculous. They admit that the finale pissed off a ton of fans but they still have the balls to try to suggest that it's still… more an intelligent and good finale. Absolutely ridiculous to insult their fans intelligence. the finale was garbage and they should have at least owned up to it instead of trying to justify it by saying that it was to build hope or to give fans time to mourn or whatever b******* excuse they have
What did you like about them driving around in a RV for 45 minutes along with them continuing to destroy carols character development with a rushed arc. The first 20 minutes was good build up however like the walking dead they just kept going with it
The final 10 minutes were great but it had zero payoff, the season had zero payoff.
There is also the issue that this whole season has been them doing this.
I loved the episode and the cliffhanger. To me there isn't really anything to apologise for.
I still can't undefstand the hate. It feels like everyones throwing a tantrum at this point.
Yeah and they were six decent ones, the walking dead cliffhanger was a bad cliffhanger to round off a pretty poor season.
Not to mention game of thrones had payoff in several of its arcs and to that effect, multiple arcs. The walking dead had one storyline that it built up to all season and then didnt payoff.
Even if you compare the main two, the game of thrones one showed what happened
I don't get why cliffhangers are somehow bad all of a sudden.
Cliffhangers are never that popular however in most shows they are needed.
However its not just a cliffhanger, people are pissed because it was a cheap and poor cliffhanger to boot. A good cliffhanger tends go be something in a left field or a sort of twist to get people talking. Its also usually used to hype people for the next season and ensure viewers for a new season.
This cliffhanger didnt tease or make people think at all, it just cut off the scene at the pivotal moment to ensure people watch the season 7 premiere. If this was a small show in its early seasons maybe, but the walking dead is very popular. They dont need to do that, people would have watched anyway. Cliffhangers are a tv gimmick and they rarely allow for good storytelling, they tend to disjoint arcs.
The cliffhanger here also wasnt even a cliffhanger really, we know exactly what happened they just cut off the scene and didnt show us it. They built up to this moment all season and just didnt follow up on it. If negan had just shown up out of the blue in the last episode then fine, but they had the character talking about negan for the entirety of the the second half of the season

I've liked Carol throughout the whole show, even back wen most people disliked her. This arc is way to fast and exaggerated. They didn't need to wreck her character when they have so many others they barely touch
I felt the season as a whole was pretty good. I did like the being lured around scenes but I'll admit it did drag on a bit longer than necce… moressary.
It doesn't suprise me that people aren't happy with Carol's arc at the moment but I'm interested and curious to see where it goes.
I've liked Carol throughout the whole show, even back wen most people disliked her. This arc is way to fast and exaggerated. They didn't need to wreck her character when they have so many others they barely touch
The cliffhanger was poorly made because you know someone is dead. Now you need to wait 6 months. Not to mention Walking Dead is starting to get really annoying for dragging things out constantly. Also it ruined one of the biggest scenes in the comic books.
If you liked the finale: Great see you next season
If you were unsure: that was kinda our point. To leave you unsure.
If you didn't like it: sorry but... See you next season.
I don't think it's really a huge deal. Me personally I loved the finale (though I hated the cliffhanger) and won't let the last part ruin a really good season for me. But idk, I don't think you should have a cliffhanger just to get hype for next season.
Cause if we are analyzing this, that's really what Kirkman is saying. He wanted ppl to wait for next season to be excited. And can't really blame them. Shit that's what happened with GoT and Stannis (a smaller degree Jon snow but that was obvious).
I just think consumers are getting very smart and they don't need to be maneuvered into building hype for next season. Give the fans a bit of what they want, especially at important parts and they will hype it for you. It's a equal exchange in all honesty. I'll give TWD one more chance because they didn't kill Morgan and Steven Ogg is on the show now, but any more disservice won't be tolerated. We build hype because we enjoy the story, not for characters.
But as a writer, I'm probably speaking for myself.
It's only rushed if you ignore everything about her character up until Season 6 except the fact that she's killed people, because it's been a fact that she hates killing and the way it makes her feel since Season 4. Even after the Terminus incident and basically becoming a hero to the group, she was still ready to depart and be alone again due to her guilt for what happened at the prison, on top of the whole Lizzie incident which really screwed her (and Tyreese) up. It's only when Pete comes along that she coldly manipulates events to get him killed without remorse, but you'll notice that even then, she doesn't just kill him herself. Then, her Season 6 arc is basically an answer to exactly what people were talking about during S5, that she was becoming way too cold and uncaring. So let's briefly cover the long line of kicks in the ass that Carol suffers throughout S6, shall we?
"JSS" shows that the killing is starting to get to her, especially after putting down an innocent to spare her pain. Her later fight with Morgan shows how far she's willing to go to eliminate threats, only to have all of that upended when the very threat she tried to kill sacrifices himself to save someone else. We then see that she is still affected by Sam's death after two months pass, likely feeling guilty over how she'd been treating him if not feeling directly responsible for his death (she wasn't there, but someone no doubt told her how he'd died). Then "The Same Boat" happens, and Paula inadvertently holds up a mirror to the cold, distant person Carol was becoming before. Despite all attempts to the contrary, Carol is forced to kill again and watches as Maggie, the person she wanted to protect from becoming like her, takes part in the butchery. But the Saviors seem to be dealt with, so Carol can still remain at Alexandria in peace... but then the Saviors resurface and kill Denise, and a war is all but inevitable. But at that point, Carol is more than understandably sick and tired of killing people for everyone else. Plus, as her encounter with that asshole Savior showed, she's suicidal and ready to die, which adds a whole other layer to her departure on top of just not being able to take the fighting anymore.
Again, you can't look at Season 6 Carol in a vacuum. You have to take into account everything building up to this. Hell, the flu arc and Carol's decision at the prison were explicitly mentioned in the penultimate episode, so it's not like they've forgotten the incident that started all of this. Plus, Carol still displayed her old skills while on the road. She hasn't become less of a badass. She's just a more humanized badass now.
I've liked Carol throughout the whole show, even back wen most people disliked her. This arc is way to fast and exaggerated. They didn't need to wreck her character when they have so many others they barely touch
This cliffhanger could be a get out of jail free card so they make us think they'll kill a main character, but it'll just be someone minor and not in the core group.

Well actually Kirman has stated several times he is "one voice in many" when it comes to creative desicions on the show. So even if he WAS the one resposible for the cliffhanger (for example) he needed the support of many, if not all, the people involved. It is still possible that he was forced into it and can't acknowladge it publicly.
I'm not sure. I always got the impression that AMC is holding back the show and not putting enough money into it, but I think it is Kirkman who does all these crappy remixes.
I think so too. Kirman has often had this mentality that creators shold have the abosolute control of their work. This is belived by many to be why his books are so sucessfull since is able to portray his story how HE wanted to. In tv things work differently, its like a council of elders type deal. I don't. I have my opinion, you have yours. However lots and lots of people have told me that they LOVE the show but hate the cliffhanger so deeply that, recently they've gone into self loathing about their love for it.
It was terrible, why can't people just accept it and move on. Actually why can't people MOVE ON some fans seem to have been mentaly scared to the point in which its given them ptsd and they "relieve the awfullness". I get it in the first MONTH maybe but its been so long.

I have no idea. Everytime i went to this chat ( It was a chat room for walking dead fans) with other fans they kept bring up more reasons to hate the finale. Me and a few fans who liked it or just had different opinions argued in its favor. We kept debating for days until this usernameless guy came up and said: "IT WAS SO BAD IT GAVE ME PTSD!!!!!".
From then on everyone used it as an argument, a few guys left straight away since they felt offended by it. Then it just got out of control. People arguing that they would kill themselves and stuff and they were serious. Eventually every person who didn't striaght up hate the finale left......execept me. And well you can guess how that went. Few days ago i was forced to leave. And about one or two days ago the chat was closed by the owner since he felt it was now pointless an full of "whiners".
Let's just say i just REALLY wish people who hate the finale just moved on.

Yeah i know. Not every fan is like that. But a lot of people took the finale way too personally (i guess thats what i get with a fandom).
I heard for a few people that the main Walking Dead forum is unberable. When Spoiling Dead actually said that people were over reacting and that they had no doubt the show would get 30 times better soon people were confused as hell and tried to convince them for hours (which didn't work).
I guess another way to insight theories would've been to show a new group of survivors that have never been seen in the franchise before(perhaps during Heath and Tara's run?) Otherwise I'm not ultimately sure to be honest but I do agree that it probably wasn't the best scene to pull something new... if they had done it before a few times, my guess is that people would be more forgiving but they just did this out of the blue...
Ah right I actually misread it.
It was effective at producing theories - but if they wanted to do that they should have done it with a less iconic moment.
I guess I'm the only one who noticed how Carol had always shown regrets to killing throughout all the Seasons from Season 4? They don't always make it obvious but there are subtle implications that she was reverting back to her old self since Season 5. The only time she's really been a killing machine was at Terminus really but then again, she's only killed people to protect others.
As far as I'm concerned it's questionable writing. A few episodes back she was a killing machine, but only now she regrets it? She's reverting back to the timid old lady we saw in season one. The only difference is the reasons she's timid.

But they just did this arc to the extreme, that episode where she gets kidnapped by the red head I found her sudden unwillingness to kill irritating and a bit rushed however I understood what they were trying to do. However the next few episodes it just became ridiculous, carol leaves the community to avoid killing so she can go out into the world where she will likely have to kill constantly. She then cant kill a walker late into the final episode, it just became dumb.
Yes on paper this arc makes sense but they exaggerated so much it just irritates viewers. Also again I dont know why they had to do this with carol, they could have picked any of the secondary characters no one cared about or had an opinion of

Well I guess I'm the only one seeing lots of tense people talking about who died?
Personally, I didn't feel they built up to anyone dying, from what I could tell from the dialogue and every scene since the first mention of 'The Saviors' they were building up Negan and his community being a force to be reckoned with and to me, they showed this perfectly in the finale but that's just my opinion.

Well, the TV Show isn't the Comics, so I don't understand how it ruined a scene from a book... :x To me at least, the comic scene hasn't been ruined, it's still a subjectively good comic scene for me.

For me, the RV scenes showed how lethal The Saviors were, each time their group got larger and it increased the threat more and more, I felt they were building this up to show the size of Negan's entire community and how it quickly outmatches Rick's own community. On another point, it reveals allot about Negan's leadership skills, having that many people under your command just shows how lethal and charismatic he is.
I disagree about Carol's character development being destroyed, I also disagree with it being a rushed arc. Carol has shown allot of signs that emphasize her objection to kill but she knows it was necessary at certain points, from allot of her scenes(particularly when she kills Lizzie and when she kills one of the bitten Alexandrians, that she feels at the very least some remorse for killing, I think the Sam scene where she says "Killing is the only way not to become a monster" is what made her realize what she'd become. I wasn't surprised that Carol wasn't just a cold blooded murderer considering she only killed to try and protect the people she cared about but that's just my opinion.

Something is up with the word "fuck." Don't know why.
Fuck, Kirkman.
The damage control is real.
But couldn't you say that about every cliffhanger? Kirkman has a point about the Star Trek season finales. Everyone remembers them fondly.

In the dvd and bluray the Negan scene will contain swears just like those other shows you mentioned.

I wasn't surprised that Carol wasn't just a cold blooded murderer considering she only killed to try and protect the people she cared about but that's just my opinion.
I personally loved the entire Season
Well, I didnt mean the scene from the comic was ruined, I meant that the scene that was in the comic was ruined in the show, it would have just worked better if they didnt cut it off.
