Why did people hate Spider-Man 3?

Seriously though, I loved Spider-Man 3 and can't think of one bad thing about it. It wasn't as good as Spider-Man 2, but 3 was still awesome. Can you guys enlighten me?

I actually liked the movie when I saw it and I was a kid back then. And I am certain my elder brother liked it too.

But I have heard that the movie has a lot of problems behind scenes. The director originally wanted Vemon to be the villain for a fourth movie, but instead they put him in the third. Because of the meddling from the higher ups, the movie suffers. The fans weren't pleased because they didn't like the actor playing Venom and they certainly didn't like the "Emo Peter" scene.

That was a few reasons, I can think of why people didn't like Spider-Man 3 as much as the other movies.

Yeah, I'd probably be freaked out too.

  • Also, it's spelled wrong. It's "Ei bine, nu era facut la fel de bun ca si 2". Translation: Well, it's not as good as 2

  • Alright. I just looked up how to say it on Google.

  • I loved it, even if just for Sandman.

My aunt, uncle and I just had this conversation and my uncle commented that the only reason he didn't like it was because of "emo Spiderman" (Venom) as he felt it was an uncreative move on the movie's behalf.

  • Personally I loved it

  • You're right about creative troubles.

Sam Ramai didn't want to use Venom at all as he didn't like the character. He wanted John Malkovich as the Vulture (perfect casting) and Harry Osbourne to be the 3rd movie's villians with The Lizard in 4. But Sony wanted Venom and made him shoehorn him in somehow.

  • I liked him but I love Tom Holland the most. He was the perfect balance between Maguire and Garfield.

Maguire was a great Peter Parker and pulled of the nerd factor very well, but he wasn't very funny or quippy as Spider-Man.

Garfield was a great Spider-Man with good one-liners, a believable romance and great hair, but I never, ever bought him as a high school nerd. He was too attractive, toned and well groomed. I know, odd criticism any I'm not overly complaining, he's a hot guy but he wasn't nerdy enough for Peter.

Tom Holland was a great Spider-Man with jokes and a great Peter who was unsure and was actually close to the character in the comic's age.

But which movie he was playing? Never heard of him TBH

I don't know what I think him. He was fine, I guess. I didn't care much for the Amazing Spider-Man movies but at least they were better than the actual games, damn I hated those games, boring Spiderman, terrible voice acting, lame combat, lame swing mechanics etc.

  • Why did people hate Spider-Man 3?

Because it was a bad fucking movie and the polar opposite of everything the OG Spider-Man stood for.

Honestly, if people enjoy it, good for them. If you enjoy it, good for you. I like seeing people happy, and if the movie can make you happy or entertained then that's pretty awesome. But for me personally? That movie completely shattered my hero, it completely destroyed the hero I thought so much of and turned him from a selfless, heroic, funny and caring hero to a whiny, selfish, annoying and unfunny asshole with Spider powers. That's kind of why I enjoyed Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man more, because he symbolized what Spider-Man is. He was brave, selfless, he put others before himself, he put the safety of the city in front of his loved ones, hell there's even a scene where he spends a day with a kid protecting him from bullies. That's who Spider-Man is. But if you enjoy it, that is 100% alright.

  • And if you don't like it, that's fine with me, too :)

  • Kewl? Eh, Spiderman 3 was kewl. I sort of enjoyed it, but did think that there were a few too many villains. Sandman, no sir. I would have preferred it if it all focused on one: Venom. (Even though it would have scared me even more as a kid, while watching it.) Amazing SpMan 2 handled a villain trifecta better, probably cause SM3's pacing wasn't great, but I'd prefer just one, or maybe two villains in a movie.

It was an okay movie, I just wished Venom had a better role (but it's skeletal appearance in the last few seconds was cool) and it focused too much on Black Spiderman imo

Spiderman 2 was the bomb though, it had my favourite interpretation of Doc Ock and the fight scenes were amazing.

  • I just wanna say this. IMHO, Topher Grace was a great Venom, and he stayed true to the one in the comics.

His life got ruined by SM, he turned into Venom in a church, and he wanted revenge. I honestly think they focused on both black Spider-Man and Venom equally the same.

  • I thought it was pretty good.

  • Differing opinions xD I see quite allot of people saying that Spider Man 3 wasn't exactly a 'bad' film just had allot of cringey moments.

  • No idea, I personally don't really judge films that much and watch them for fun, so I liked all the spiderman films. Also probably because I'm a spiderman fanboy haha.

Yo, fuck what people said... That scene was goddamn genius.

Tobey Maguire dressed like an edgy hipster tween, walking through the streets to Danny Brown, mac'n on the ladies haphazardly is fucking gold.

Yeah, definitely. This was my favorite part in the movie. A very powerful scene, IMO.

  • I'll be honest and I might get singled out for this but I liked it for all the corny romance and generic-ness that it was. While I definitely agree it wasn't as good as the first one and doesn't stick to the Spiderman outline completely it was still innovative and had it's moments. I loved the Sand Man and Harry's redemption as well as the final battle although I fucking loathed Venom (seriously gtfo Eric from that 70's show, you play a terrible villain) and all the romance. I don't think its as horrid as people say and still better than The Amazing Spiderman 2 easily, seriously what a great series that's so good it gets canceled before it can make a full trilogy.

  • Topher Grace was a great Venom

I respect your opinion but to me he came off as laughable and weak. Even when he was shown to be a threat to Spiderman he didn't seem intimidating in the least which was weird because the Green Goblin and Doc Oc showed that they were capable of being taken seriously in the previous films
