Why would you not consider the alternatives to what you are criticizing, though?
It WAS mainly a joke, but partly it was real criticism specifically directed at the Christian religion. If I did want to write a completely serious comment, (which I'd really rather not) Maybe I would consider the alternatives and different religions/beliefs.
though I believe in God, I believe that religious views are far too influenced by society to be really taken as the true word of God.
The bible says what it says, the ten commandments say what they say. Sure, society may exaggerate some of these things, but the examples I gave were things classified as sin in the bible, which is supposedly supposed to be the word of god, unaltered.
I think it's fair for God to give us the ability to have free will and a full range of emotions and yet still hold us accountable in how we choose to channel those emotions.
but if you channel that emotion by hurting someone, then that is something that should fairly be looked down upon.
Humans are violent beings, some more than others. Is it really fair that somebody who has issues dealing with anger ends up hurting somebody because they don't know how to cope with the feeling of anger? It sounds pretty unfair to me, wouldn't the blame fall on god for cursing an individual with this misfortune?
I wasn't talking about the alternative, and I didn't intend to. I was specifically referring to the Christian God that is known to most of t… morehe world today, and his ways of judging and watching over his creations. I don't see the point in considering the alternatives, since this is the mentality that god is believed to have by the christian people, and the God I was told I should worship as a child.
Why would you not consider the alternatives to what you are criticizing, though? That doesn't make much sense if you're trying to apply any rationality to your opinion at all. You're pretty much just blindly criticizing otherwise.
Again, I'm referring to the religion that I am most familiar with and was brought up in (Christianity). Maybe I should have been more specific. Pre-marital sexual acts and masturbation in specifically are considered sins in the Christian religion. Likewise for murder and other forms of violence. Again, I was… [view original content]
Well, that won't happen. I don't think anybody can prove a god's existence.
Of course not, I'm just talking theoretically, which is … morewhat this thread is about.
Just to snatch it back cruelly and do the same to your loved ones?. That gives me even more reason to say those words.
Depending what you believe relative to believing in God, there is always the idea of the afterlife. That aside, death just happens to be a natural part of a physical existence. While we could go back and forth on the philosophy of having finite lives opposed to infinite ones, we don't have the answers, so I'd rather not waste my time this time around (though I did have a somewhat similar discussion about this wayy back in November: https://www.telltalegames.com/community/discussion/101824/the-prayer-thread/p1). sometimes it's really hard for people to praise or thank a supreme being, especially if they were put into this world in the most extremely difficult situations. i mean just think of a person who was born with multiple diseases, like just skin & bones & weak lungs literally and couldn't go to school or even do something, just lying there on her bed & suffering from pain. or maybe even people with who can't go to a hospital because they don't have money, of course there are those that have strong hearts that they could still sing praises & thank God, but i think there are more that would ask, What did i do to deserve this? or say I didn't sign up for this. When 99.99% of your life is miserable, & you are rejected by society, you loose hope sooner or later, & then faith.

Be intimidated but show no want or interest in having any contact with this being
What would you want to ask him?
If he controls the actions of the people of the world and has created all the disease, warfare and death. And if yes add a follow up question ask why he's such a tyrannical, death mongering monster and why would he make a place with such cruel depravity and violence
What would you want to say to him?
That I'm a non believer and have no interest in giving into someone demanding of worship and sacrifice. Having read the old testament this "higher being" will get nothing from me
What would you do?

That's about the gist of what I'd say to God if I were to meet him. I mean, how can people say God is "all loving" when he's apparently allowed and created such evil upon his "children". If he is truly real, which I doubt, he's the definition of a cruel and callous psychopath without empathy, nor sympathy. Stephen Fry perfectly summed up my feelings towards God, and Gay Byrne's (the presenter, who's quite religious) reaction made the whole interview even better.
Btw, I don't mean to cause any offence to anyone who does believe in God or any religion for that matter. Everyone's entitled to their beliefs and the freedom to express them.
Both the old and new are filled with nonsense and fabrications. As society grew to be more civilized people have abandoned the very foundation of the bible and created the new testament to water down the cruelty of religion
I'd ask him: "Why does the Church teach that you take people, and that you burn people in hell, if you're supposed to be all-loving?
If the Church is supposed to be ordained by you, than why would it's leaders tell people to go to war in your name - when your son taught people to love one another?
Why would it try to cover up the sexual abuse and exploitation of children - instead of turning these perverts over to the proper authorities to for trial and punishment?
If you and Jesus are one-in-the-same person, as the Church claims, than why would Jesus say before he died: 'My God! My God! Why hast thou forsaken me?' Why would he ask why you forsook him, if you and him are supposed to be the same person?
And why should the Church be tax free - when its members have to pay taxes to the Government - and when when Jesus himself said: "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, but Render unto God that which is God's?' "
I'd say to him: "Since everyone has to some varying degree physical and mental problems, I personally would like to be healed of mine.
And since all I see in the Church is religious hypocrisy, that is why I will never attend.
And since there are to me to many inconsistencies with what the Church teaches, compared to what your Son taught, not to mention things that the Church teaches that defies common sense, is why I do not believe what it teaches.
For example, Jesus taught people to love one another, but the Church prays for the troops to kill the enemy, and on the other side you've got priest praying for the same thing.
To me, it not only seems like a HUGE contradiction, but also that both sides are wasting their time - praying that their side kills the other in wartime.
Also, a man who before he dies asks why God has forsaken him, to me is not God himself.
And also, to me any organization that is more interested in protecting its reputation, as opposed to protecting its members from being harmed, to me is not ordained by You."
I'd get on my knees out of respect.

Eh, actually, I think I know where you can find most of those answers. And if you really want to have answers I suggest you should try it.
So, if you go to the Jehovah's witnesses site ( jw.org ) you can find those answers. I don't remember how you can actually search stuff on this website but I know all the answers are there.
The Jehovah's witnesses' bible is actually better than the other one's. Most of the other bibles have erased the real name of god, and changed the meaning of some verses ( so there's less credibility in those bibles).
I really recommend it to you, to go on their website.

Russell's teapot.
EDIT: Maybe not in your fairy tale, but in mine I can. Turns out God's one weakness is being disliked by me.
I think it was already confirmed long ago.
You're wasting your time, dude isn't smart enough to keep the conversation going without resorting to fallacies.

There's no proof he doesn't exist though.
Wowzers, there's a lot of Religion-based threads coming out recently. I better consult the broble about this.

Obviously tweet about seeing him
Ask him why is my life is sh**?
"You got a lot of nerve showing your face around here."
Prove that invisible unicorns don't exist.

Not sure if I would say this personally, but I still think it's a great response.
Very good answer, highlights a lot of important things.
Kudos.
Yes, but in this case the Flying Spaghetti Monster does exist. It is known.
Show sum fookin respect. There two different things.
This comment is amazing.
I was going to post that but since you already did I will say that I agree.
This video goes into better detail then I ever could.
SO IT IS TRUE

Not to start a argument, but you read the OLD testament, everything in the old testament is inaccurate.

I think you've got the answers for most of your questions already. If there's a God, he doesn't necessarily speak through the Church.
