Which game series do you like better? Left 4 Dead or PAYDAY?

I love Left 4 Dead better, because Valve.

So many good memories. (And bad ones.)

    L4D by a country mile.

So many days were spent playing the shit out of it with my friends. When I went through a bout of depression a good few years ago, playing with my friends was one of the things that got me through it. That game forever holds a special place in my heart, no matter how sappy that sounds. Hell, I'd consider it one of my favorite games I've ever played simply for the amount of fun I had playing it. Every now and again some of us get together to play it, and even after all these years, it still hasn't lost that charm. It just sucks that the game's kind of died out by this point. I miss the days of playing versus and being able to play on servers that are not a bunch of modded bullshit. I miss the days when people remembered that scavenge mode existed. Hell, I miss the days of the xbox version (before I eventually moved to the PC version), and the hilariously awesome glitches on there. Oh powershot, how I miss you. How I miss ruining random expert games with you, or instantly taking 1/4th of a Tank's health on versus with you.

Payday is good, or rather, was good, until Overkill pulled that microtransaction shit with PD2. It especially sucked being a guy that's been a fan since the first game. I was there through the announcement of PD2, I was there for the beta, I watched all the updates play out, I bought almost every DLC for it, then they kind of just spit in my face. I never went for the completely overkill pack, simply because I had this sinking feeling it wouldn't be worth it. Turns out I was right about that, and I feel pretty bad for my other friend who's also been there since the first game, and got fuck-all for his loyalty. Yeah, buy all the DLCs, buy the COP, and what does that loyalty get you? This shitty skin! Or maybe an actual rare item that some random chump will get because of a dice roll! Now I'll be honest, I know they are trying to make up for those mistakes and I can appreciate that effort, but they aren't quite there yet for me, and given the game is a bloated 15 GB mess at this point, I can't say I really want to reinstall it again.

That being said though, underneath all of that, it still is a pretty good game, and I have enough good memories of playing it as well. Though I honestly wish the difficulties were better balanced. As fun as it was, there was a point where there just wasn't enough of a challenge. Overkill in the second game was too easy, and death wish just bordered on being annoying. And the other modes weren't even worth playing on unless you wanted to fuck around with a dumb loadout or go after achievements. In the first game, hard mode still provided a challenge while still being enjoyable, overkill provided an actual challenge, and 145+ was hardcore shit that I am still afraid of even trying. In PD2, death wish is the only difficult mode, and like I said before, it borders on being too hard for casual play. So that contributed to the game losing it's appeal for me as well, but not anywhere near as much as the microtransaction stuff did.

However, with all that being said about the second game, the first game is still fantastic. I still play it on occasion and have fun with it, so there's that.

  • L4D. I loved testing the game mechanics, like looking for crazy glitches and constantly adapting to what the AI director would throw at you. Payday got really annoying waiting and hoping for the right mission to pop up. Also the gameplay wasn't as solid as I would want it to be. I still had fun and the missions were creative from time to time.

  • Left 4 Dead. Could never get into PayDay for some reason. Maybe I'm just a sick fuck who likes watching zombies' heads explode or something.

  • Dude, you make threads about the most fucking trivial shit ever. I love them. You're the bomb diggity baller.

Also, I prefer Left 4 Dead. Payday is fuckin' awesome and all, but god I really love Left 4 Dead.

  • Thanks (I think?).

  • Left 4 Dead definitely. Love those games.

I cant compare them at all tbh, I like them both.

The only thing they have in common is: you shoot enemies with 3 other people.

  • Sorry, I used 90's lingo to say that you and your threads are cool and it probably came off as confusing since the 90's were weird. Yes, it was a compliment. Your threads are cool man and so are you.

  • Well, although I have played a lot more Payday than Left 4 Dead. I do fancy some of the memories of confusion and dumb-founded hilarity of those games.

However, Payday does a better job of "coordination or die" gameplay-style L4D tried and fell short of. A lot of time in L4D, I found players rushing toward the end, stopping occasionally to wipe out the threats in their way and more often than not seems like more of a rat race.

Whereas I couldn't even steal the shit in PD with that mentality at all. In a lot of ways I find PD to be a bit more focused and difficult. But there's no denying the effect L4D had on audiences.

Both are great though, and both are better in their respective departments than the other.
