Another thread where die-hard TT fans jump in to hate on the game! Yay! Instead of actually discussing something worthwhile, well...
ALL ABOARD THE HATE TRAIN, WOOO
Ridiculous fanbase.
I honestly hate the game to be honest but the OP asked what good things could be taken from it and they should have received actual answers rather than a bunch of comments that the game sucks. Even if you hate something you should be able to examine what good there is in it.
Ugh, I know, right? Sure, I do think that LiS is a bit overrated, but jeez... everyone here treats it like it's the worst game ever.
Not trying to offend anyone, but isn't that the truth?
The OP clearly asks what Telltale could learn from Dontnod cause of Life is Strange. If you say the complete opposite, then why bother making a comment? Sure, mention some things that Dontnod could learn from Telltale, but mention and some good things about Life is Strange, too. Honestly, comments like these make me feel ashamed of being a Telltale fan.

I agree, I too felt Episode 5 was a little... dare I say 'meh'? Compared to the others which I really enjoyed and even loved. I feel it was the long as puzzle that really ruined the immersion for me, I like puzzles but there is a thing as too much of one puzzle, that's just my opinion though.
Considering how it outclassed each and every telltale game in terms of popularity and sales.
It didn't do either of those things but… more okay.
Life is Strange is the type of game where, after beating it, you sit around and just think about life, no TT game has made me do that.
That's your opinion not fact. Personally, while I liked the first four episodes (though not to the second coming of Christ level of hype the fanbase gives it), the last one was incredibly poorly written compared to the previous episodes it pretty much soured my view on the game.
The only thing I actually want Telltale to takeaway from LiS is the time travelling. I don't want Telltale to just be pointing and clicking and QTE's forever. I want them to add more gameplay elements (which is evident in TFTB and M: SM but they're not that huge).
Getting to learn about characters who were pretty much just in the background is something I really loved about LiS, the way they did it practically made me remember that even though I'm playing Max's story, all these other characters have their own stories being written in the background.
While I have my differences with a lot of the characters and stylistic writing choices of LiS, I really loved its emphasis on environmental … morestorytelling and letting you play through "small moments"; particularly in episodes 2 and 3. Getting to explore places like Chloe's house, the party, running around the old dump... The objectives were sometimes silly, (like collecting bottles...) and those scenes completely killed the overall pace of the story BUT I really loved how much I got to learn about the characters and Max's perspectives on the world.
I liked Life Is Strange, honestly, at first, I was more interested in LiS than in Tales from the Borderlands but it was the 5th and final episode that made me change my opinion about both games, I loved TftB's finale and disliked LiS', they kind of felt entirely opposite.
The things TTG could learn from Life Is Strange is how to give each character in the group a story. Season 2 of The Walking Dead Game puts Clementine in a group full of new people and we're not even given the option to learn about them like we are with characters in Life Is Strange.
However, LiS definitely could learn from TTG's games, how to be better at lipsyncing for one and how to have puzzles in a game without the player losing immersion with the story, I'm sorry but the long puzzle sequence really got to me in a bad way :c

Oh look, a white knight riding on his mighty steed, pretending to care that we're bashing life is strange.
"This fanbase is ridiculous, I… more'm the only smart one here, you guys are all dicks." Sure you are.
If you have a topic more worthwhile to discuss then make it, smart ass. We didn't ask for this topic anyway.

LiS manages to make choices matter in the long-run, hopefully Telltale can learn by adding more effects to the choices we make than relying on the illusion of choice.
Not saying that LiS was good with it's choices since it does have flaws, but I wish that the episodes were lengthy (like 2 hours at least) and have a lot of content inside.
Also, the writing of LiS seems to revolve around Max's character, I'm also wishing that Telltale can incorporate that into TWDS3 (and future games) where it can develop characters more than they did.
Maybe in a similar fashion like TWDS1, but less annoying puzzles.
Triggered much?
You're like an infinite source of entertainment, Rabbit. Everywhere you go, you manage to make a fool of yourself, even here. Please, carry on.

Sure, because the episodes that are 2 hours long each isn't enough, let's hope that they will make all their episodes 4 or even 5 hours long, so they can take longer to release them.

And done with the best sarcasm I did today.
Never played LiS, but I do think TTG should remember that if they want us to care about a character that dies even a second tier one we need to know backstory and personality. When Katjaa killed herself I was sad. When Carlos died I was like...oh they killed what's her name's dad.

Why can't people not like the game without being called die hard TT fans?
Maybe we just, uh I dunno, not like the damn game? Is there something wrong with that?
Actually, Dontnod has to learn from Telltale. There are many mistakes in LIS. But i love that game btw. It will never get older. Still listening to Foals's Spanish Sahara and getting emotional lol
I think the extreme bashing is done to compensate for the extreme praise. The people that like the game can't just say something like "I liked it, but the game isn't for everybody" they are always calling it game of the year. I can see how some people would like this and how some would hate it (I'm in the latter crowd), but I think calling it game of the year is going a bit overboard.

I wouldn't say learn, but improve on the whole looking at objects and get a feel on what's inside the character's head thing when exploring HUB areas. LIS did this A LOT and TWD has improved on it in Michonne DLC, but not by much since TWD S1. I'm not referring to puzzles or interacting with characters, just the observations. Other than that, I believe TT has nothing to learn from LIS other than what not to do.
Yeah, I don't dislike LIS, but the people complaining about people disliking it are irritating. There's no rule about how much you can complain about something.

The problem isn't the fanbase calling it game of the year material, but rather the fanbase calling it the BEST GAME OF ALL TIME 10 OUTTA 10 GODLIKE BETTER THAN JESUS CHANGED MY LIFE.

I honestly see no problem in people saying its the best game they've ever played or the best gaming experience. I've seen people whose played Bloodborne, TW3, MGSV, and other heavy hitters praise LIS the same. If the game leaves that impression on them then damn there must be a lot of people who hold this dear to them. Sure, some things can be hyped to a degree but a lot of fans do that for everything.

"You are dead" I guess this means the character is dead inside, just like my avatar in Xenoblade X.

Life Is Strange made me into a communist
they can both learn how to make longer episodes!
The lip-sync actually improved for the Japanese release.

"the episodes that are 2 hours long each isn't enough"
what.....? we will be lucky if we have a 2 hour episode. I finish them in barely 1 hour.
Are you sure we play the same game? Cause from my experience, the minimum length of the episodes is around 1 hour and 30 minutes long each.
Shortest episodes are 90 minutes. No ones fault that you're a professional speedrunner.
I'm dead because I didn't raise my hand to victory? Fuck you game.

Thank you! This is also partly true for LIS fans. Put any shit on a Telltale game and you're a fangirl/fanboy for LIS. It's ridiculous.

if you dont like it, then WTH are you doing here? does Telltale Games needs you to defend it or what?
I think by the posts people are saying they can learn nothing from LiS, which is a valid point, no?
The problem is people's edginess about the game. OP asked a simple question and everyone turned it into a bashing thread. Yeaaah, smart.

That's good
LIS got more popular because it wasn't like TTG and how they do things.
