The Modern Movie Trailer
So this topic is something that kind of bugs me, in the way that songs that all sound the same on the radio can bug you.
Let's look at the trailer for Back to the Future all the way back in 1985:
Now let's look at the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One, which comes out later this year:
I understand that trailers are of course marketing for a film, I mean that's exactly all it is. The goal is to make people want to see your movie! But does anyone else get annoyed by the fact that all popular movie trailers today are the same? It starts with a rumble, then some talking, then the rumble gets louder and there's some action scene with some deep pow pow pows in the background, and then a one liner, and then it starts all over again.
My problem is that today in age we seem to focus a little too much on the movie trailer, than on the movie itself. Some companies get a little too caught up in it that they end up telling too much of their story. I'm sure we all remember Dawn of Justice.
So is this only me? I could be completely in the minority here, but I just wanted to know if anyone felt the same way!

Honestly, I go by posters more than trialers, and boy have I been let down by some doozies...
That said, I've always thought the job of a film marketer was pointing to the good points of a film and trying to sell those, but at the same time, no going so far as to misrepresent the film, especially in terms of topic or genre. Yes, there are going to be slow points you want to cover up, or bad jokes you want to gloss over, but if you pretend the film is something that it isn't, the backlash is not only going to hurt the film in itself, but it's going to hurt your company brand in the long-run.
Trailers like this may get butts in seats, but your company name will be tarnished, and so will any expansion of the IP you could potentially look for

No, it's not just you I totally see how they're all the same, the rumbles, dramatic talking, fading to black, before sudden dramatic music with more dramatic talking, before ending. It's kind of getting annoying seeing the same thing over and over again.
Such a cliche now.
To be forward. I grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. I recall most Movie Trailers back then were also relatively cliche. There are trends that studio's follow when making trailers. Heck I remember for much of the 80/90s your trailer didn't mean much unless you had the Movie Trailer Guy narrating. lol

Now to be honest there are modern day movie trailers personally that are utterly amazing. This one brought me back to that time when they made amazing films like Seven Years in Tibet, Legend of the Falls and As the River Runs Through It. Amazing films in there day, heck still are. Just realized all 3 of those films have Brad Pitt in them, my god he worked on great films in his youth. Tom Cruz can stuff it.

What isn't a cliche now?
