May I have your guys input on this?

A while ago I typed something about a club I wanted to do for school with a friend on the whatever's on your mind thread. It was supposed to be a Women's Rights club mostly on women's rights in third world countries. However, me and my mother were talking about it and she suggested a children's rights club. I decided to mix up the two ideas and get a women and children's rights club. Then I thought that men has difficult times like women and children, but it isn't vocalized as much. So, I finally concluded to make a People's club; however, I don't know what to name it. I want to bring attention to my school, city, and country about people who are poor, homeless, ill, lonely, and abused. However, I'm afraid about how many schoolmates want to join the club. A lot of them are not passionate about this kind of thing. A lot of people doesn't care because they believe it's not their problem. And I want the club to be active and to not end once I graduate. So this is my question to you guys: how can I get my schoolmates, or better than that, people to be involved in this type of movement?

You could try incorporating a title such as "Human Rights Advocate Club", and try to push opportunities for local community service. On top of doing community service from good will, it can also benefit people looking to perform community service acts to help with something such as their resume, or community service requirements they might have elsewhere.

  • Human Rights or Civil Rights

    Awareness, Advocacy, Liberties, Progression

    Society, Committee, Club, Group, Scholars.

If you search for these types of groups, you basically come away with a madlibs jumble of reoccurring words. Getting people involved? Posters, statements, presentation. Within the school I wouldn't even shy away from "look, this can only look good on a résumé" at least to get initial interest.

  • Yes, it's called Human Rights when you include everyone.

The question is, what do you want this club to do? Are you just bringing awareness? Are you trying to promote solutions? Are you trying to link up with people your own age in other cultures? If a student joins your club, what does it mean to that student?

It depends how you will lead it, if it's going to be another PC/ Tolerance/Feminist gig people will simply ignore it as they are tired of that. If you adress some REAL problems like poverty, hunger and REAL abuse of women not some shitty micro-agression or male gaze bullshit then it might go the right way

  • I was under the impression that the 1% were the one's that complain about innocuous bullshit that often get misconstrued as the "feminist agenda."

Honestly, most people I can vouch for are mature enough to know that feminism and human-rights often go hand-in-hand and should not be deterred simply because of a few naïve youths that believe the world is owed to them.

There's always progress that can be made in our society and for people to denounce that notion and reside in a sense of lethargy for change isn't how we need to go about comforting ourselves. Things for everyone can always be better, we just got to be willing to lend one of our hands.

    Anyway, sorry for the tirade.

  • I want this club to not just talk about this topic, but to go out and help. I want to do things like visting Children's Hospital, the homeless shelter, nursing homes, etc. If this club goes up and running I want us to be active in our communities and help people who need it.

  • I know gave you advice before but won't copy/paste when you mentioned this on a different thread.

I just want say from forum I know ur kind and will always have best intentions for students at heart.

I think ur.personalty will attract people knowing they can trust you.

I believe you can and will do this but take a lot of work and.long time to build foundations for it

When times and how many days a week will you have meetings?

  • You want people to be interested? Give them material possessions. That's what the majority responds to.

  • I'm planning on having the meetings once a week so they'll have time for other clubs that they're in.
