  • Cloud Atlas is definitely worth checking out. It's based off of a novel that contains around five/six different stories across different time periods connected by butterfly-effect type connections.

  • Greek film "Kynodontas (Dogtooth)". Funny movie about problems of growing up in unique family. I recommend it.

  • Well, if you haven't seen it, you really need to watch The Princess Bride. Don't worry about the title, it isn't what it sounds like.

  • You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means. ;)

  • I don't know why, but Love Actually is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's got Christmas, humor and sappy moments.

  • Empire of the Sun: See Christian Bale when he was but a boy, and yet still an amazing actor. It is considered one of the best child performances in film history. Not bad for his first film.

  • I definitely recommend Prometheus to any sci-fi/thriller fans. It raises a lot of questions and keeps them ambiguously unanswered, but I thought it got a lot more flak than it needed! In my opinion the scary parts are up there with scenes from the original Alien trilogy.

  • Oh fuck, this thread was meant for me...

I have too many, so I'll start with some of the recent films I've thoroughly enjoyed.

    enter image description here

Eyes Wide Shut: In my opinion, this is Stanley Kubrick's best film. A very interesting erotic thriller, a term that I'd apply very loosely to this film mainly because the sexual nature is more or less a peripheral focus in an otherwise very surrealist plot involving thoughts of infidelity and the struggle to remain loyal to one's significant other. Great film.

Gomorrah: An Italian film that has been highly regarded as one of the most realistic depictions of it's subject matter to date. A stark portrayal of the Italian mob and the corruption that underlies it's dealings. The film follows five stories, each connected to the Comorra crime syndicate. An incredible piece of cinema, if not a bit harsh.

    enter image description here

The Revenant: A movie I doubt needs introduction. The sheer brutality of The Revenant is hardly what I can appreciate about a movie that was so well shot with the skill of incredible actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Domhnall Gleeson in an epic revenge journey that actually makes me feel like the protagonist is progressing through emotional weight and trauma.

  • Glad to see so many people with great taste that I can share.

    Feels so good. :)

And everyone here NEEDS to experience Whiplash, at least once.

  • Isn't there a scene where Liam Neeson makes out with a dude vigorously on camera?

  • Persepolis

    enter image description here

A great biographical animation based on the coming of age story of Marjane Satrapi. The story takes place during the whole turmoil in Iran, and how it affects our main character. Beautiful hand-drawn animation, a touching tale, and great voice acting.

    Anomolisa

    enter image description here

Another amazing animation, and severely underrated at that. The beauty is within its simplicity.

    GoodFellas

    enter image description here

Want to see an amazing cast deliver A+mazing performances? Interested in learning about the mobster lifestyle? Then this movie is not only for you, but for EVERYONE.

  • GoodFellas one of the best mobster movies out there. A Bronx Tale comes in a close second.

I've heard a lot of really good things about Anomolisa. I get the impression it's more of cult classic in terms of mainstream recognition, which is a shame that it isn't more exposed, but I'd like to check it out sometime.

  • ok here we go.

    • The Boondock Saints: its a freaking awesome film, its funny it has a unique style of humor, think of it as a almost perfect Quentin Tarantino clone/copycat. now i might just do the film some injustice saying it, well to those who havent seen it and if they go with expectations of a great QT film they might be disappointed. but for me its how it kinda felt. it was a great movie, one of my favorite of all time. very low key movie didnt get released because of the Columbine shooting so it never got a proper release. also from what i heard theres a docu about the director making the movie and they say its pretty cool too. but anyways watch it, its awesome and its the first time i ever saw Norman Reedus. lie, blade 2 was it but didnt remember him, until this movie.

    • A Bronx's Tale: probably one of the most underrated mob movies of all time. just watch it, its great.
      ;

    • Scott Piligrim vs the World: i think a lot of ppl here know about this film but if you dont, stop and watch this shit. its hilarious and dont listen to anyone that that says it sucks. and you should probably break up with them or unfriend them/ never talk to them again..

    • A Prophet (Un prophète): this is a foreign movie, so if you dont like to read subtitles then you might not even bother but i still recommend to watch it. its a mob movie set in a french prison. and its about a guy, who if im not mistaken is like algerian, and his in prison and has to do this mob shit to survive but there's also other factions, i think its the croetians or something? idk watch it if you love mob/crime movies.

    • and finally Amores Perros: this is a mexican movie that it starts Gael Garcia. ah also its directed by Alejandro Iñárritu. again same as ^^ but i think you should watch it because its phenomenal. one of my favorites of all time. also do yourself a favor and watch his other awesome mexican movie Y tu Mama Tambien also starting Diego Luna. and while youre looking for this movie watch other of their films, a lot of them are really freaking good.

  • Dude, it's so fucking good. I'm probably going to watch it again once I have time off from work so I can catch more details and analyze it to a greater extent.
