Kon'nichiwa!

Are there Japanese users in this forum? My dream is to visit Land of the Rising Sun. It's culture is fascinating, though I don't like manga and anime much. I'm learning the language but it goes slow.

Do you know people from Japan? What are they like? Is it true they are rather indrawn? Do they see gaijin as less worthy man? In my opinion Japanese women are very beautiful, fragile and polite. Is it hard to date them? Are caucasian men less attractive in their eyes?

If you have been to Japan, please write about your experience.

    こんにちは!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I became Japanese when I watched my first anime ever back in 2011. I don't know any Japanese but that doesn't mean I'm not Japanese. I injected anime and manga into my blood stream and became Japanese. I am 100% Japanese.

    お時間をありがとうございました。 ^_^

I higly doubt there are any Japanese on this forum.

  • The first japanese people I met were a otaku husband and wife who ran a collectables store, I thought they were all like that- they're not though.

  • Why? I doubt there are none, even if there are few. There are people here from countries with fewer inhabitants.

  • I met some Japanese folk at a hotel in Pennsylvania. I'd be walking down stairs to get some hot chocolate or something, and I'd hear them arguing in Japanese at like, 2 in the morning. They seemed alright, at least, I think. I couldn't understand most of what they said, and I assume my southern accent didn't really make it easy for them either.

  • I may not know a lot about the deep interesting culture of Japan and it's people, but I do know a WHOLE lot about their tentacles!

    PHEW, let me tell you...

  • Why? Because in my 2 years of ...being on this forum I've never noticed anyone saying they are Japanese or whatsoever.

  • Idk man I am no Japanese. Their one city has more population than my whole country.

Why do I feel like this is straight off of #creepywhiteguys ...

There's nothing wrong with people of a particular ethnicity more aesthetically appealing than another overall or being interested in or liking the culture, but generalizing attributes to those people, especially 'fragile,' is a bit of a red flag... It's exoticizing and perpetuates racist and sexist stereotypes of Asian women.

  • Eh, I don't think he meant 'fragile' as in 'easy to conquer emotionally.'

We all have our distinctions in attractions. Me, being a slightly more introverted male, I like my women social and outgoing. Opposites attract and all that nonsense and I think fragile was more to describe that some are a bit more reserved.

It actually is creepy but I have a feeling he's young and doesn't know its inappropriate.

Its not like its unusual to fetishise people of certain ethnicities brothels and massage parlours certainly play on it, but don't be to open about your sexual fantasies op its wierd.

I agree sarangholic (what does your name mean by the way its unusual)

I didn't think he meant it that way; I thought he meant it as reserved, and there's nothing wrong with being attracted to more shy women, but again, I don't think it's appropriate, or more importantly correct, to generalize a group of people that way.

  • Well, again, to sound completely patronizing to the OP, I think there's a difference between an aesthetic preference/cultural interest and a 'fetish,' and the difference is in the degree to which certain attributes are associated to the individual based on their ethnicity.

And here's where the finger potentially gets pointed back at me - sarangholic means love-holic, where sarang is the Korean word for love, and Loveholic was a band I really liked growing up.

Jesus Christ, what a crappy times! You can't say you're interested in girls from specific country because people will immediately call you racist, sexist and they'll tag you "creepy white guy". No, you don't know me, Sarangholic.

Fragile - "(of a person) not strong or sturdy; delicate and vulnerable."

  • I remember saying something along the lines of that Our Attempts to teach people to be tolerant has in turn backfired and taught people to be more intolerant than ever. We live in an age in which an academic for example can lose their job for having an opinion.

  • Read again.

I'm pretty sure I specifically qualified there is nothing wrong liking a certain aesthetic or being interested in a certain culture, I'm taking issue with the phrasing that emphasizes the stereotype of Asian women as exotic and submissive, those stereotypes being racist and sexist. It's not a condemnation of your character so much as calling out a party foul.

I'm not saying you're a bad person for saying it, but whether you mean it that way or not, it's language with a subtext.
